Harold Camping suffers a stroke

a california broadcaster who wrongly forecast the return of jesus last month is now hospitalized after suffering a stroke.. harold camping, 89, of oakland, calif.-based family radio was reportedly taken by ambulance thursday night from his home in alameda, calif.. "he had a stroke, it was on his right side," a neighbor of camping's told the oakland tribune, noting that she and her husband helped and comforted camping's wife, shirley, as the event took place.. "his speech appears to be a little bit slurred but otherwise he's ok," the neighbor said, after her husband spoke with shirley yesterday.

"(shirley) said he was doing good ... and the only thing that's affected is his speech.".

Famous B-17 Liberty Belle crashed this morning in Illinois

this plane was one of the few flying fortresses still in operating order and was scheduled for an airshow next weekend.. pilot reported a fire on board, could not make it back to the field, and had to put it down in a cornfield.

all 7 persons on board escaped, but the aircraft is a total loss..

Moshe, there are still WW1 aircraft out there flying, unless I am wrong and they are newer copies.

I suppose the planes are inspected for cracks, Moshe. Perhaps we'll find out if your theory is right in a few years. I'm happy to hear your son is an A&P man. It must be rewarding to do that. Me, I'm just a tape and wire guy. LOL !!

Hi, new to this forum. Figured I'd let everyone know about my story before I got involved.

if you just want the juicy details where i leave, i'll make disclaimer where it begins, if you just want to know what happened with the elders and organization after i realized it wasn't true, i'll mark that seperately.

Well Jonathan, that must have been one hell of a huge cup of coffee you were drinking. 40 paragraphs !!

If I knew it was that long, I probably wouldn't have read it. I would have been discouraged. So, I just kept reading and figured sooner or later, it would end. LOL !!

I found that once I started reading this, I needed to keep on. You are a very good writer, and really intelligent, too. This is a very sad story, however, I am happy you still have your wife on your side, so to speak. I'm sorry you lost al your other family and friends. It's going to be hard to forgive them, but I commend you for having that as a goal some day. I myself couldn't do it.

It saddens me to hear so many stories that are similar to yours. What a wicked cult.

On a side note, have you heard about the book "Crisis of Conscience", by Ray Franz? I wonder if some day in the future you could get your wife to read it? Perhaps with you? Not trying to make waves here, I am thinking that some day, she needs to free herself from this destructive cult, before she has a nervous breakdown.

Glad you are here, and look forward to more of your intelectual writing. (of which most is Greek to me). :)

Moshe, these planes are rebuilt by licensed Airframe and Engine Mechanics. If you are not licensed, you can't work on them. Okay, the engine caught fire. Mishaps occur in all kinds of aircraft, old and new. It's just a fact that can't be ignored.

When these planes are rebuilt to fly, they are torn down to the bare bones, and totally rebuilt. New wiring, hydraulics, rebuilt framework, and so on. So, technically, they are as safe as any other plane. But, things can go wrong, as in like any other aircraft, and they have to be certified flyable and inspected by the FAA in order to be airworthy.

Now, if it was just a "static display", which is a non-flyable aircraft, used only to exhibit, anyone can work on them. In fact, I am working on a fighter aircraft which will be a static display, and will never fly, but will (when finished) look like it can. It's like having a full sized model airplane. That's where we can use duct tape, and bailing wire.

1 year since my last meeting!

i just realized that today marks my first year since attending a meeting at the kh... i really wanted to celebrate this day but it just creeped up and its kinda late now... i guess i'll celebrate tomorrow night instead.. but i wanted to log in to thank everyone who has helped me with their valuable insight and perspective... i came to this site with a typical judgemental jw mentality and now i can say i'm completely rid of all that... i now value everyone's opinions and talk more freely with people i used to consider "worldly"... what a completely freeing experience!.

the hardest part of my exit from the cult was convincing my wife... that took about 6 months and i nearly gave up... thank god she eventually woke up.. also, in the past year i've read.... gentile times reconsideredcombatting mind controlcrisis of conscience*in search of christian freedomapocalypse delayed*3 books out of the 7 "studies in the scriptures"5 rutherford books*i met 2 of the people mentioned in crisis of conscience and apocalypse delayed and had dinner with them recently... hoping to build that relationship further.. i've also sent about 26 emails to several elders on a variety of subjects and 6 letters to the brooklyn and i'm still not da's or df'd!

none of these emails or letters changed anything but it helped me purge.... i could go on and on but it's the same story you've probably read a thousand times already.. anyway, if it wasn't for all the support and encouragement i received on this site (as well as randy's site and barbara's site), i wouldn't be where i am today.. so a big thank you to you all!!!.

It will be 7 years on June 12th that I've been posting, but I've never been a j.w. I have a daughter involved in it, and still can't break her and her hubby free. I keep trying, though. So welcome, and congratulations, Alfred. Looks like you are progressing well. Hubert
