Stromboli,
Did you think so because I kind of "defended" the Pope? :) LOL. Thanks for the advice. Actualy, I no longer care. I live in a big city and I have a busy life outside the WTS. As I said I think I've located the slanderer and he denied starting the gossip. What else can be done?
All others,
I am a satanist according to a few witnesses who can't think of a better way of rationalizing my escape from the WTS.
My posts must have come across as realy dumb so far if some people think I fell for this crap.

what_truth,
No fear. I actually think being a satanist is double pathetic from my atheist point of view. First you have to believe in the Good Heavenly Father who watches over our souls. Then you have to swap him for the Bad Infernal Father which actually means being despised by those who believe in the Good Heavenly Father. Way too confusing for me. Being a Christian is too demanding. How about being a caricature of a Christian?
And even those LaVay type of satanists are typically poor victims of the Satan metaphor. You need to have a serious emotional problem to become one.
As other folks have noticed, I'm describing a case of slander here. I've located and called the guy who, I'm sure, started this gossip. Guess what? He denied everything.
All it shows is that the Dubs will put on the most ridiculous defense system when their "spirituality" is threatened.

Valis, Avishai,
Cool avatars.
Well, according to their own rules they have to let your accuser face you, or shut up!!
Very good point, avishai. Actually they're giving me an excuse to give them a hard time when they pluck up enough courage to meet me.

Hi all,
I faded away from the JW cult last year (loaded language but I have my resons now). I got my family out which was great.
From then on it's been a typical story of leaving a cult, though.
Recently I was honest with a few (now former) friends of mine. I told them I no longer believed in the FDS doctrine or the organization and that I wasn't sure about God. (A rather mild way of describing the state of the art of my "spirituality").
According to the latest gossip related to me by a half-dead witness friend I've converted to satanism. That was probably based on the fact that before I became a witness I listened to metal music. That was almost 10 years ago and I was 17 at that time so you see how badly they need to lie about me to make themselves feel safer. I can't think of any other reason anyone could come up with this crap.
Anyway, because I consider it slander (not that I give a damn about this label) I've started calling all my witness friends today asking them directly if the gossip originated with them. It's been fun so far. Most of them are chicken shit even to talk to me on the phone. They swore they never heard of my "conversion to stanism", but one of them admitted he reported me to the elders. What a true caring friend he proved to be!
I realize this is taking me to an all-out confrontation with the local Body of Elves, but I've decided I won't have any coward slander me. I'll sue the person who admits having started this gossip. Most likely nobody will admit it.
Hail Satan.

Can 'the truth' survive the Internet?

slimbf,
Great. If so, then the real effect of this is still to be known. It's more of a question of availability of information. If anyone decides to know something about the dark sides of the WTS they will go to Google and get transferred to freeminds.org with full "documentation" on every issue of interest instantly. Most WTS doctrines have carefully been decomposed and exposed for their ridiculous stupidity. The info is at every witnesses' fingertips. This has never been the case before. A Polish guy like me with some command of English doesn't have to move his ass from his place to know some of the things which have so far only been available to bethel insiders. The horror!
In my experience (although it's just as much of anegdotal evidence as yours) the witnesses who may have some doubts (I'd say there are millions) and are brave enough to go to the internet (many thousands perhaps?) instantly realize they were mostly right. This is a great thing to realize which was not that easily achievable before the internet. I mean how many "apostates" could you "meet" without going into trouble with the elders before the advent of the Internet?
Admittedly, the braindead will remain braindead though and so will those with heavy emotional investments. Just look at some of the trolls who hang around this den of lions :).

Just compare the effects of the 1975 fiasco and the effects of the UN cover-up on the average witness.
By "the average witness" I mean not only US witnesses but also those JWs who live in countries far away from the Brooklyn HQ.
The 1975 fiasco went almost unnoticed in many countries largely becaue the feelings and opinions about it were different and watered down form one country to another.
The UN thing was instantly documented and fully analysed by "apostate" sites as it was happening.
People in developed countries get this feeling you can Google for any non-commercial information. Why not for "the truth" then? It's only a matter of a year or two before this new paradigm of satifying information needs fully sets in in Easten Europe, SOuth America and other parts of the world. Then, watch the service reports :)

Do you capitalize the word "internet"?
by seattleniceguy inthis is a total fluff thread.. technically, i think it is supposed to be capitalized because it represents the internet, the worldwide network of networks, as opposed to any old connection of networks.
but to me, capitalizing it seems somehow...archaic, as if we're still in awe that it even exists.
at some point, doesn't its existence become so routine that we treat it as a normal noun, like "radio"?

Nark, I couldn't believe the French use "ordinateur" for computer. Sound preposterous to me. Was it an invention of French prescriptive linguists? Where does it come from etymologically?

Who else is not going to the memorial for the first time this year?
by Pole inwell, it's going to be the first memorial i'll miss out on.
no big deal, but i guess it has to be considered one of the final stages of "apostasy" :-).
i remember i used to see some df-ed people at memorials.

Wow, there's quite a bunch of people who are not going to the Memorial for the first time. Let's see if the trend continues into the next year.
For me personally the WTS experience is slowly becoming a bad memory. I got my family out. Now I'm losing all the "friends". But the latter is only weirdly fun to watch. Last night I had one of them tell me I'm "a threat" to him, because I'd told him I no longer considered myself a witness. Typical.
blondie,
Somehow missing other JW meetings is easier for them to accept but missing the Memorial is more final in their minds. That is one reason why the WTS has the rank and file lobby so hard to get people to the Memorial besides getting a big number to point to.
Yeah. If they want it to be final - then let it be so.
Big Dog,
Took my dad to his last one last year. I didn't go in, I just wheeled him up to the door and someone else took him in then I picked him up afterwards.
(...)
It was a weird feeling watching all the sheep file in, I felt filled with a great sadness and pity for them, all going there to deny the sacrafice they believe Jesus made for them. Sad.
Thanks for sharing this story. The (EX)JW experience is so similar worldwide...
Good luck to those who still have their families in.

I faded away last year (my wife joined me). We haven't been to a meeting for months now nad we're never going back there even for the so-called "social-reasons". Interestingly, I've heard the JWs who knew us try to rationalize it by saying we've grown "spiritually weak", although we never said we felt weak.
It will be fun to meet somebody in the street after we miss the memorial.
Anyone else missing the MEM thing for the first time?

Either holly will make a very good wintess, or she's been using subtle black propaganda.
In either case, the best thing we can do is wish her luck and Jehovah's blessings. ;-)
