Do you think of yourself as an apostate
by barbar inmany of the people on this site say that they are apostates.
but that is not the way i feel about myself.. i am not angry with the "witnesses" or the organisation, i don't feel that i wasted my life.
i just think that i was stupid to believe it for 30 years (well sort of believe it, i did have severe doubts on and off).

jeannie,
Denotative and connotative meaning. That's what I think the discussion is about.

Jehovah's Witness Nationwide Study
by Joker10 inthis is a summary of jehovah's witness and part of a nationwide study of mexico's religions.
the study indicated that jws are the fourth largest religion in mexico.
this is because many more people identified themselves as witnesses than the actual number of publishers.

Witnesses have a higher percentage of literacy than the rest of the country. Although women have an inferior percentage, in the case of Jehovah's Witness the gap is closer among both sexes than other religions.
Any guesses why the communists in my part of the world made fighting illiteracy one of their priorities when they were in power?

JWD Awards??
by RichieRich inso, i was thinkin, and got hit with a good idea.
everyone whos been here for more than a week has posters that they love, and posters that they loathe.
some make laugh, some make us cry, and some drive us right up the wall.... so to honor that, i think we should have some sort of jwd award session... (should simon approve).

I hearby nominate hibiscusfire for the most stupid question ever asked on this board category:
How many light years would it take for a bug to fly from Africa to South America?"
And this is part of the argument for the Young Earth theory.

do JWs believe in dinosaurs?
by tsunami_rid3r inthe bible doesnt mention them at all.
so what the hell?

Now let's define simply light years
Light years really tells us how long it will take to get from point A to point B in space.
Hibiscus. I really suggest you focus on making up jokes about Mormon underwear rather than astrophysics.Light years really tells us how long it will take to get from point A to point B in space.
It does not mean that point B was created millions of years ago.
Take an ant for instance: Imagine the little bug trying to get from Africa to South America. How many light years would he take? Yet Africa and South America are land divided by sea.
Rarely in my life have I heard such a stupid question. "How many light years would it take for a bug to fly from Africa to South America?"
And how many kilograms did you think over this question? Or what's your weight in seconds? And yet hibiscus feels entitled to reformulate th ecurrent theory of the universe.
Young Earth Creationists have great apologists indeed.

A Religion in Massive Denial ( Wt 8/15)
by metatron inthe latest watchtower contains one of those statements that makes you gasp in astonishment.
in the main study article.
it says that jehovah's witnesses have "been labeled false prophets" - and that they are accused of being out of touch with reality,.

The latest Watchtower contains one of those statements that makes you gasp in astonishment. In the main study article it says that Jehovah's Witnesses have "been labeled false prophets" - and that they are accused of being out of touch with reality, out of date.
Have you quoted this verbatim? If so - then it's a stunning word choice indeed. Every single word is usually carefully wieghted by the WTS writers and they never mention difficult issues and avoid calling a spade a spade. They must have actually deemed this issue serious enough to even try to dismiss this accusation.

Another letter from WBTS re: UN Scandal
by Gadget inquite a while ago i mentioned to my parents about the un scandal but they didn't seem too interested, but when i called in the other day my mother mentioned it to me again.
they had a elder and his wife (family friends who i was previously very very close to) staying with them for the convention and discussed it with them.
the elders wife is a very strong personality and super-spiritual but when she heard of the scandal back in spring she had a huge problem with it.

Who determines what's "balanced", I wonder? Certainly not the receiver of the letter!
The FDS write the articles and so they have the right to decide which one applies when. That's why you can find mutually exclusive explanations of the same issues. When a problem arises they can refer you to the one which they arbitrarily decide you should read to get a 'balanced view'.
