  recently, i've had memories about that topic, which i had suppressed for a long time.

  my original question came up when i encountered a few members of the "anointed" in my congregation (we're talking almost 30 years ago).. there was one sister who partook of the "emblems" who had come from cuba.

  i learned from her that her health was frail because she had smuggled some expensive jewelry in a condom and stuck it up her colon.

  Channel C Decides to Stay Open !

  ccadmin posted a new thread today stating that the cc site will stay open.

  it appears that everyone was able to work out some differences and put christian friendship ahead of partisan views and attitudes.

  this is nice to see, and speaks well of everyone involved.

  Why do/don't you believe in God

  now for all the scientists out there this is not a question of proof or anything along those lines.

  for my part i choose to believe in a god because i honestly believe there is one (though i did start doubting for a little while) i've always felt that there was more to our existance on earth - and that doesn't stem from me wanting to live forever or as a spirit, as i don't even know if that will happen.

  i also believe in him because many many times when i could not carry on, on my own strength, i managed to pulled through.

  I'm with mtbatoon as far as biblical imagery and the use of metaphor go.
  

  If the bible is gods word and a manual for how we should live our lives then it should be clear and uncomplicated, not hidden in metaphor.

  
  In fact the kind of metaphors we find in this book prove that the Bible is only a work of men. And that's the disappointing part as far as beliveing or not believing in God. In my opinion not believing in God is much more honest, although not everybody can cope with this awarness. Therefore even good-hearted people make up new metaphors to explain the biblical ones, or they stretch the biblical ones usually in a harmless way.
  The metaphor gives you a sense of direction. Heheh - here we go I've just used another metaphor. Of course we can't live without them, but why should we live by the metaphors made up by a bunch of ancient men and somtimes ruin our lives when we take them too seriously?
  So the problem is that biblical metaphors are nothing special and for people who have been told for years that they are special this discovery is disillusioning in terms of believing in God.

  i, damselfly, can not knowingly eat the little squiggly, umbilical cord things in eggs.

  i have to very carefully separate the whites from the yolk and remove the squiggly bits with a knife.

  i get gaggy just thinking about them.

  Yeah, I also talk aloud to myself. Sometimes I have heated debates with imaginary opponents.
  
  Sometimes in languages other than my mother tongue. I dread to think that someone has overheard me. I must have sounded like a complete wacko.
