I've noticed there is at least one fallacy that all religiously delusional individuals share. They believe to own the best or sometimes even the only true interpretation of the scritpures or another source of revelation, right?
Now, they have no efficient means of spreading the word, but they don't consider it to be a problem. They preach with the delusion that the few people they get to talk to and share the God-given truths with, represent the whole mankind.

I once read a book on the art of arguing.
There was a shortlist of topics which when brought up are almost 100% sure to get you into trouble. They wreak emotional havoc with most people no matter how simple your point is and how rational you'd like your debate to be.
I was surpsrised that the issue of bringing up children scored at 3d position in the list- just after religion and politics.

I think czar made another good point about the europeans coming here to america trying to buy influence in the government . They not only want a free trade agreement but they want to control the laws governing free trade .Thanks to canada and mexico we now have even more trouble keeping jobs in the US because of the nafta agreement .
I think you guys must believe in conspirational theories. Do you guys seriously believe that most Europeans and Asians go to the US with the main purpose of ruining your economy and political system?
Not just the europeans but also the asians . Many of these countries use slave and or child labor to keep costs down so consequently many american companies are suffering or out sourcing leaving a huge trade dept that is putting the hurt on middle class workers.

I never said I was interested in other countries becoming the 51st state but merely setting up a represetative republic similar to the US and self governing . I am not all that happy with the things the US government does but ( in fact I think most politicans are crooks ) but at least you can vote for people who are of like mind .

"Many feel" refers to people like me, right? Many feel, some may feel.... where did I hear this language before? Just kidding.
Intelligence comes in many types in different types of people, and many of these types are not recogonised as intelligent by those who THINK they are intelligent.......Did that make sense?
It definitely does. That's why I said the question of what is intelligence is way too general to me.
Emotional intelligence, logical intelligence, musical intelligence, spacial intelligence, mathematical intelligence. You can be a Nobel Prize winner and an emotional dunderhead at the same time - hurting people all the time and overreacting to criticism.
Conversly, you can be poor at exact sciences and humanities, and still an emotional genius who has no problem handling the greaest distress.
I personally know people who are way more intelligent than me in terms of emotional intelligence, but I wouldn't say they are smarter in any other respect.

I think you should start a thread on socialism to get a wider variety of the definitions of socialism. The truth is, that the kind of clear-cut distinctions you've made Terry only exist in theoretical economics textbooks. They may be useful to contrast the ideas in their extreme form, but few politicians would nowadays dare/be able to implement a purely capitalist or a purely socialist economy.
2 examples: According to your definitions:
Is Sweden's economy strictly capitalist?
Is China a strictly socialist country?
In practise, it's all about balance. From my Eastern European experience I'd say moderate capitalism is definitely the fairer system. It just takes some time for people to get used to the idea of being individually and not collectively responsible for their lives.

Assuming that a personal God exists, how exactly do we know he must have the kind of emotions we are familiar with, so we can discuss them?
Are we supposed to know it from the Bible?
If God has the kind of emotions which the OT attributes to him, then he is at least emotionally unstable.
If we take what most of the NT implies about God's emotions, then his emotions are totally out of keeping with what he does, or rather with what he fails to do. No personal being with the kind of emotions normal humans have would let us suffer to such an extent. God may have a "divine plan of ages" but he is rather devoid of empathy.
If we refute the Bible (Editted to add: which is what we should do in the context of this discussion) because of its unreliability in discussing God's emotions, then what are we left with?
Either way any discussion on God's emotions is doomed to end up as a useless exercise in producing tons of mutually exclusive anthropomorphisms which do not relate to reality in any verifiable way.

First of all I studied American culture and history among other things. Secondly you should know that the cultural transfer between America and Europe is one-directional. the average European knows much more about the American culture (even f it's folk knowledge from Hollywood movies), than vice versa.
There are two different points here. Plus, I've explicitly disclaimed folk knowledge.
I can't see how you were able to conclude that I got my education from Hollywood movies??? As it happens, I took 3 two-semester university courses in American Literature (starting with Winthrop, John Smith, Hawthorne, Thoreau, and Emerson and finishing in the late 1980s) and American Culture. Silly as it sounds, I even learnt big chunks of your literature and early political writing by heart.
Of course, this still doesn't prove I can't be an idiot, but it should give you an idea of what I think of your conclusion about my supposedly Hollywood-based education in AM culture.

Does Belgium have it right?
The kind of restrictions they have implemented are acceptable and apparently based on some research and monitoring. The situation there can't be compared to that in Russia, because the decisions in Russia were not preceded by any research - they were chiefly political.
The Belgian Government institutions simply know that something is wrong with the JWs. We know it too.
So I accept it as the right of the citizens of Belgium. I don't want them to accept the Polish approach to this problem. I also think Belgium is no less democratic by implementing those solutions. There is no single best democratic model in this world.
