For what ever reason, Jehovah views blood as Holy and put it 'off limits' to mankind.

The very fact that you said "whatever the reason" shows that you're using unverifiable metaphysics. Sabbath, animal sacrifices, holidays - they're all religious metaphysics. Just check out how frequently the numbers 7 or 12 occur in the Bible. Does God really like those numbers more than other? Or is it just human invented metaphysics? The same applies to the "holiness" of blood. BTW, which factions of blood does Jehovah consider "holy"?

How far advanced medicaly might we now be and how many lives might have been saved if humanity respected God's wishes all along?

It's not important what people believe.

What matters is how people came to believe in one thing or another.

The only people who I find annoying in this respect are those who refuse to acknowledge problems with their belief system, whatever it may be (even if they believe more or less exactly the same thing as myself). I can tolerate them, but I'd find it difficult to form a real relationship.

Yeah, branch office policies... (I guess in Bulgaria all transfusions are a matter of personal choice - at least officially).

The current tendency for many JW kids is to grow up and forget about their parents' religion as soon as possible. If the kid dies because his parents didn't let him have a transfusion, this freedom to choose is lost. A life is lost. This is sick, both in practical and moral terms, especially if you know something about the people who issued the blood policy.

Even with adults the feeling of guilt may fade out with time. If the person gets df'ed chances are the person will start using their brain to figure out the Watchtower religion is bogus and not worth dying for. I guess you could find lots of examples of such people on this board.

In any case it's the WT theologians (whoever they may be now) who are to blame. They know the blood policy in its current form is out of keeping with any logic. They tell you you can accept blood factions even though they were provided by a human blood donor. At the same time they depict the blood "industry" as utterly balsphemous.

There's no logic here. There's no morality. There's no religion. It's all about spin and public relations. (Imagine the effect of suddenly announcing that all blood transfusions are now acceptable). While the Brooklyn gerontocrats are having fun voting new versions of the blood policy, lives are being risked and lost.

I find the Watchtower quote very hypocritical and contradictory with their other doctrines. They slam religions for saying that God wants children to die. At the same time they say it's perfectly in line with Jehovah's will to refuse to save your child's life in some situations and that Jehovah wants children to live in Paradise so much that he can take them away from their parents if necessary.

Just a sad reflection.

Such as the "deep and long-held religious convictions" of the poor girl? What are the "tragic results" he mentions? Feelings of guilt?

Make up a phoney doctrine. Tell people to die for it if necessary. Then explain that if they don't die for it, they'll feel guilty about their sin and get shunned for the rest of their lives. If they do sacrifice their child or familiy members, then you know they'll continue to believe in the crap dogma for the rest of their lives for fear of facing the truth about letting their loved ones die.

now, the war is over, the weapons were not used and of course have not been found.. how threatening could they be if they did not even use them when being invaded by a massive force (of the countries they hate)?!

perhaps, as many suspect, they didn't use them because they didn't have them?.

now we're being told that we'll have to be patient and give them time to find them.

Interestingly, those who first proclaimed their invisible presence also suggested that their generation shall not pass away until all WMDs are physically revealed to the world.

Although by now most of those original faithful and discreet proclaimers have either vanished or gave up making predictions, their zelous followers (also known as the-other-sheep-WMD-proclaimers) continue to spread the good news of the revelation of the invisible Weapons of Mass Destruction.

In doing so they are more Catholic than the Pope himself.

I think the basic reasoning behind the distinction here (Watchtower/mainstream religions) is this:

How do the activities of Jws benefit French society?

Do they run charities, or do they encourage their members to donate?

Do they encourage people to take active part in social life (e.g. by voting)?

Do they teach people to love their country and defend it if need be (whatever that means for every individual citizen)?

Do the WT officials set a good example for their members as far as paying taxes is concerned :)? Do they haveany anti-social doctrines and policies (blood issues, shunning, politics=satan)?

I'm only guessing like everyone else so far on this thread, and I still think 60% tax is an extreme measure. It would be nice if Narkissos gave us some background on this issue.
