For those GB members who have a say, the end is very near anyway. They sense it and they'll simply keep a straight face untill they all die. There's nothing to lose.
There are a few younger members, but unlike in the case of corporate power - there is no real strategy of transferring doctrinal power - it largely depends on coincidence who will suddenly realize to have the "heavenly hope" and who will make it all the way up to the GB.
So the situation is uncertain, but I don't think the gerontocrats are worrying about it. Which means the dillemma will turn out to be really serious when they pass away.

The Watchtower's Dilemma
by metatron indilemma (n.) - a situation involving choice between equally unsatisfactory alternatives.. .
that's exactly where the governing body - and directors- find themselves.. they are becoming painfully aware of growing malaise and lack of growth in the organization.. in response, they could:.
scream louder about armageddon being close ( not likely to work).

Did You Know How To Explain The Beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by minimus inone of the things jws pride themselves in as that they know their bible (new world translation).

I thought I could defend JWs views until I met a guy who proved me wrong. From then on I began to feel more and more embarrassed every time I had to defend them. I mean, it usually took such a leap of imagination to add all their doctrines up. After some time I discovered I was intelectually dishonest and that I used different standards for the WTS "truths". Then I realized it was all all BS.

LOL @ FunkyDerek
My thoughts exactly. I guess they'll stop including the field service hours figure when it turns out that having spent a billion hours the 6m+ JWs only managed to make one or two converts (in statistical terms of course, but still...).

What is the truth?
by OldSoul inpontius pilate asked, and now i'm asking.
i've been reading many topics in here, now i am wondering... what is truth?
i'm both respectful and broadminded enough to allow for any other viewpoint, whether or not i agree.

Do those who get baptized as teenagers also use their "free will" to decide which religion they'll stay in for the rest of their lives? DO children believing in Santa use their free will when they take what their parents say at face value?
Free will is a highly disputable concept in many ways. Philosophically, psychologically and religiously.
Only lawyers take it seriously in its entirety. And they're usually wrong in doing so. Especially lawyers in religoius courts. :)

John 18 Quid est veritas? - Who was right: Pilate or Jesus?
by Pole init's a doctrinal question.
of course the gospel of john may have been written by someone who made this conversation up.
but let's assume it really did take place between pilate and jesus christ.. john 1837"you are a king, then!

OldSoul,
I think it is hilarious that so many people are blaming their former inability to think for themselves on... well, anything other than the true cause. In doing so, you still overlook a very basic reality of human existence.
I'm not sure what you are referring to exactly. Are you criticising the fact that I changed my mind about the Pilate-Jesus conversation as it is recorded in the Bible? Are you saying I'm blaming someone/something for my views? Please, show me where. Here is what I wrote:
When I was finally able to consider religious issues myself rather than accept ready-made answers, I began to think: "Yes, I'm showing "Pilate's attitude" and it's pretty much in accordance with my feelings."
All I said was that it took me some time to shake off WTS views and think for myself. What's so hilarious about it?
More relevantly, do you share Pilate's views on the truth?
Respectfully,

Can YOU Determine A "Real Apostate" From A "Fake Apostate"?
by minimus inso often , on this board, we see imposters claiming to be interested in learning the truth about the "truth".
they may seem to genuinely want to know things and they might ask thought-provoking questions.....so how do you know if the person you're dealing with is the real deal or not??
any tips to help us know who those "fake apostates" are??

gumby,
The way you put it may make some people think you're throwing your accusation at me. Therefore I'd like to state that I don't think you meant me.

LT,
Pole:Why is it blasphemous?
It sounds like a valid question, to me...Just a little disclaimer not to scare some believers away
Did anyone read Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita"? It's interesting how the Pilate-Jesus conversation is depicted there :)
