the enoch-quote in jude originally made me have a closer look at the canon. this single scripture made me change my whole world-view.

hi inquirer,
believe me, i've read a lot of pseudepigraphal and apocryphal writings. they are not any more crap than the bible. i mean, talking snakes and donkeys... and fruit that makes you live forever and stuff like that. as someone else on this board said before (and i really love that statement): "when you start viewing the bible as what it is, a book of man, not of god, it all makes perfect sense". go read gilgamesh, you'd be surprised.
the historical accounts to prove jesus existance all have problems. in old versions of josephus' antiquitae the "christ" parts are missing. smeels like forgery. and tacitus may have just written what some christian told him.
but that's not the issue. the issue is, even if jesus would have existed, and even if he spoke some of the words written in the canonical gospels, he was a false prophet. his prophecies were never fulfilled. that's the truth. -

The Jewish Messiah?
by AlmostAtheist inmoshe wrote in another thread:i studied with a rabbi and found out why i was so confused by the nt gospel teachings.
of course, i never bothered to ask any jew what they teach about their messiah, i just assumed that the christian teaching about the jewish messiah matched what the jews believed about the coming messiah in the 1st century-not!
you've only vaguely brushed up against your jewish knowledge on this forum, at least that i've seen.

That would be like the Watchtower
one of the things the watchtower and other churches want to make us believe, is that first century christendom was united. it was not. there were just about as many different groups as there are now. if not more. -

So what was the original context of Genesis 3:15
genesis 3:14 maybe? do you think that text is "messianic"? messy maybe, yes, but "messianic"?
most of the "prophecies" pointing to jesus are no prophecies at all. -

hi inquirer, don't worry, i wont get angry that quickly... ;-)
People that wrote those Apocryphal books knew that they weren't from God.
how do you know? and then again: the bible-writers didn't know their writings would be viewed as "god's word" centuries later. if they would have known, they would have probably written more carefully.
You have to decide what is holy or what isn't.
so it's a subjective decision, right? not provable? that's good. because if there's any truth about it (and there is not), then noone is to blame for not believing. -

why should a rooster be born of a woman? don't get it...
How many women claimed God was the father of their child? How many of those children claimed to be God?
wooh, a hell of a lot. one of them even told her husband-to-be that the holy ghost came upon her...
almostatheist (still almost?), the link i posted also includes some info why jesus didn't qualify as the jewish messiah. -
