So I'm at the meeting tonight.............
by JV ini'm looking through the new awake magazine (great article on shoplifiting by the way) and this older sister comes and sits beside me.
she started talking to me about this great little piece in the magazine about fish or something that should be on my dinner plate, something that i don't really care about, then she turns to me and said and i quote " where else but jehovah's organization can we learn such things?
i sat there with a dumbfounded look on my face thinking " are you kidding me?

you're more of a sub-bourbon white guy, huh? ;-)
yesss the awake. spiritual food at proper time. they used to ask me why i don't read it, i said i have a (national geographic-like mag) subscription that's got a lot more interesting stuff inside and much more beautiful pictures.
they always had this myth going on that the awake [observed] new trends and where the world was heading to A LOT EARLIER than they actually happen. i then always made it clear that they just compile their articles out of other articles and i can read those source articles for myself...
but that's bad attitude, i know. don't research, you don't have as much time and brains to research those things as the brooklyn bounce has. WTF? -

The killing of Job's family...
by Hecklerboy ini'm having a conversation with a couple of people in my office as i type this.
i'm asking the question "why did god allow satan to kill job's family?
" i told them that to say he did it to prove job's faithfullness and that he got even more in return for his faithfulness is not a good enough answer.

because they were celebrating birthday... and he got a new family after all, so who cares about the lost ones. not a bible character.

Saluting the American Flag
by jeffk378 inthe other day my wife and i were at a function and the naitonal anthem was sung.
my wife wouldnt stand because the society tells her not to.
i think this is disgusting.

LOL. why would anyone salute a flag? as for your reasoning, you better salute trees, if they wouldn't exist, you couldn't even breathe. or salute your meal, for without it you'd still be hungry. this is ridiculous...

Why didn't jesus write the new testement
by Satanus inquestions, questions, and more questions.. did jesus (if he existed) have in mind starting a world religion such as has been created around him in his name?
if so, why did he not write the foundations for it, laying out it's laws and structure?
why did he only rebel and lead a rebellion against the old testement priesthood?

In that case, his oral method was defeated when paul started writing down rules, laws etc.
so paul didn't like jesus' oral method? yeah, he was not that into sex, right? -

Theological question: When did God create the Devil if...
by logansrun inst. augustine speculated that god exists outside of time.
this viewpoint would seem to make sense in our modern understanding of physics since time is dependent upon space; time is not an absolute, and it is not linear.
god, according to augustine and other theologians, sees all of history as one eternal present moment.

it's all bullshit, don't waste your time.
;-)
seriously though, i don't believe there is a NOW. NOW does not exists, as soon as something moves there's only past. if NOW exists, it must be eternally short. which is hard to grasp i guess. eternally... so as soon as god sees some animation on earth or moves his finger, he entered time. -

The most condescending thing said to you by the (sm)elders.
by diamondblue1974 ini wasnt the most academic of children although i had some capability but i could read quite well by the time i was 4 years old at least for my age; i have always read as a child and still read now as an adult both professionally (research) and for pleasure.
i have always been able to write too...and pretty much advanced as well as my peers did in school...perhaps i am lucky, i certainly feel like i am when illiteracy amongst adults and children is rife at present...however.. i remember when i was 16 the wts in the uk were pushing through a scheme teaching those who were not as able to read and write...and an elder in the hall made a point of coming to me and suggesting that i should actually attend the training!!
!....i explained that i could read and write well enough and didnt need to be taught basic literacy... he said that i might learn something new and should respect jehovahs order of things and show appreciation...i did decline his kind offer rather abruptly....but wtf??

that didn't happen to me, but i feel the way they changed the bible-reading (#2 in tms) to only reading without any comment is really embarrassing.

What is the most accurate translation....
by jaffacake ini have just read a couple of excellent booklets ordered from r watters freeminds site dealing with the tetragrammaton.
the nwt seems to be an accurate translation of hebrew scriptures, and correctly reinstates an english alternative to the tetragrammaton.
but they nwt new testament is wholly unacceptable (although the kingdom interlinear portoin seems excellent).

translation of which manuscript? there are several standardized source-texts, which are puzzles of different manuscripts that date not even close to their supposed originals.

Do you believe in the power of prayer?
by cab1000 intoday, i was talking to a close family member....he owns many stores of a business...he was telling me about a huge deal going down for him, in his favor.
he is an elder.
a lot of brothers work for him.

yes, prayers always work. you just never know how. and it really doesn't matter to whom you pray. everything works as long as you want to believe it.
