ALL numbers are fake. not only the different possibilities to count hours, but also simply faked numbers. i somewhen got used to write 4 to 6 hours on my sheet even if i didn't go, or only one hour or less. i know, a lot of people do that, especially the young ones. also the attendance-numbers are pretty much faked, due to the counting-versions. some count only the publishers, some the persons who could possibly contribute to the meeting, some count everyone but the babies, some count everyone including the babies... yeah. numbers. never trust statistics you dind't fake yourself.

WT inflating their numbers?
by Fatfreek inthere have been posts here that indicate the kh building work may be slowing in the u.s., and that there is consolidation of the congos going on.
if that is true why don't we see the society's published numbers on the decline?
my next question is, heaven forbid, you don't suppose they're inflating the membership numbers do you?

it's probably on page 105, but i'm not sure, don't have an english version. it's a grey box with a foto of charlie. i think they explained it by some miraculous error, that made the calculation right, although it was wrong... gee.
that other calculation is about the 69 yearweeks i think... starting with the rebuilt temple to the appearaance of the christ. that's also fun stuff. mostly because noone knows when jesus was born (if at all, that is). and iirc their pivotal date is another false one. never been into that one (except the birth of jesus), so i can't give you more info on that. -

One of the talks was about how "since 9/11 things are different!"
sounds a lot like 1914. maybe jesus came again? people always die when jesus comes invisibly, according to wt-doctrine. -

cordelia, i just want to add one little advice or better put, personal experience (i'm one of those still in, who had big troubles with the elders bout that kind of stuff, but now that i'm "inactive" they leave me alone).
don't try to argue a topic you have not yet understood COMPLETELY. don't start a discussion without being prepared. iirc your father is talking you into comming back and all, and it happens all too fast to say something, like the 607 issue, without having considered the response (they'll bring along books and books and mags and mags). you wouldn't have a chance to make your point clear if you are not prepared for it.
if one topic is important to you, research it thoroughly, and when you know both sides (or more) and know, how an argument will be tried to be dismissed, then you can start discussing it - if that's what you want. -

But use your intelligence, remember that most of those who are shouting that it is the wrong date at one time believed that it was the right date.
this is ridiculous! first of all, most jws don't even know how to explain the whole 607 stuff. and secondly, i bet there are a lot on here who at one time believed in santa clause and i don't think they still do. -

hi cordelia,
you don't even have to go that indepth to prove it wrong. it's more about the 1914 date.
607 is a date to calculate 1914. BUT IT HAS NOT ALWAYS BEEN SO! pick up a revelation-climax-book and search for a grey box with russels picture in it (page number anyone?). it says, russel calculated from 606. and he said in 1914 armageddon would come.
now, the reason why he thought 606 is that he also calculated the year 0 (zero) as a year (it doesn't exist!). so his calculations were false! and his predictions too, by the way, armageddon never came.
so later when they found out about the mistake, they changed the year to 607 (which still is false) and changed the meaning of 1914 (but they dind't change it until the 1930s!). it's embarassing.
why is the 607 date wrong? the JW calculation is: 539 babylon fell, so the jews were MAYBE in jerusalem somewhen around 537 (take an insight book and look for all the WT conjunctives like, if-then, maybe, most probably, obviously and the like, there's nothing to prove this).
now 539 is a respected historical date, but the respected historical date for the destruction of jerusalem is 587, not 607. so even if all their other calculations would be right about the jews being in babylon for 70 years (which the bible doesn't say! it says 70 years of yoke for the nations and 70 years for the king of babylon, look up jeremiah), they still have to pick one of the respected historical dates and dismiss the other one. they might as well use 587 as the destruction of jerusalem and dismiss the 539 (and thus their own 537) date.
in the end you have to think about one thing: russel even calculated the 1914 date using the pyramids of gizeh.
good luck destroying your faith. it's fun :-) -

Did you ever experience Holy Spirit?
by Ring Wielder ini was a jw for 40 years.
although as an individual/cong/body of elders holy spirirt was prayed for, i cannot think of one moment when i thought..right now i have gods spirit acting upon me.
it was never described adequately for me to completely understand and i suspect that others felt the same, yet everyone talked as though they knew exactly how it worked.

the "sent helper", the holy spirit, doesn't fit well with the JW doctrine of "justifying sovereignity" (or how is it called?). the question why god doesn't prevent evil on his people was always answered with something along the lines of the job-story, it's to prove people would adore him even if they don't benefit. despite the "fact" that this would have already be proven by job, it's illogical he'd send a spirit to help, because that would be cheating. yeah, Mr. J. God is a damn cheater. careful, satan.

@megadude, you don't seem to know enough about satanism, sorry. as i said, satanists DON'T believe in satan, the temple of set believes in some pre-satanic deity, defined in the egyptian god set, who doesn't come close to the christian concept of satan. NOTHING to do with it. they are no satanists.
@greendawn: you got it completely wrong. satanists don't believe in a impersonal evil force (and they wouldn't refer to "satan" as "evil" either, well they would, but just for fun), satan is a principle to them. in other words, the principle "do what is the best for yourself, for the people you like and for the society you live in". that's probably what jesus actually wanted to tell us (if he ever lived). satanism got NOTHING to do with magick. it's more of a philosophy (like buddhism) than a religion.
yes, sometimes those stereotype "satanist" rites with blood and stuff are practiced. but not because of some religion, but of the stereotype christianity has created. thus teenagers who are sick of christian churches see this as a good way to show their disgust. the downside is, it keeps those prejudices upright.
