outoftheorg, that's the point: evidence, and lack thereof. a skeptic won't believe something without evidence. and he doesn't need to provide evidence that there is no evidence. it's just not there.
that would be like you telling me that an invisible apple is on the table. i'd say, no there isn't. because there's no evidence that invisible apples exist, less on my table. don't you agree that you - not me - would have to provide evidence that it is there to make it believeable?
i've had an experience about my wife previsioning the death of a sister in our congregation (including her name, btw). this DOES indeed feel very spooky, that's why i understand when people believe in that kind of things. especially because we've got all those stories in our head for watching too many ghost-movies and having been JW too long.

Have you considered that the dead may have a different perspective on what's important?
never thought of it, but maybe they only have the urge to communicate. must be damn boring on the other side so people you never knew would come around to contact the medium in the church you're just attending. if death by boredom is possible, this would definately be called the "second death"...
could you provide some scientific material on the priorities of dead people? ;-) -

some places in the us also observe the independence day for mexico, sweden, switzerland with festivals.. what about in those countries, and canada, australia, the uk, france, chile, germany, etc, etc.. do they approach their day with the same customs, fireworks, putting out the flag.
how many people display a flag on a regular basis?.

living in the homecountry of california's governator. the "independence day" (last american soldier leaving the country) is just a welcome vacation, nothing more. only public buildings would have the flag, i can't think of ANYONE who'd put out a flag or celebrate the "independence day". only the politicians.

may i add another experience:
i had huge problems with my partner, we had all this fighting going on, because of this i did some stupid things like flirting with other women, which led to more problems.
then in the assembly there was a talk about flirting, there also was a talk about how to improve ones family-life. it was dead right on. described my situation. then there was even a WT article about it and it was like it would have been written for me.
this proves that the WTBTS has god's spirit and is god's visible organization. doesn't it?
i think you get my point. the keyword to keep in mind is "generic". "family" is such a wide term... now if that guy told you that "your grandfather had two dogs, one was a huge brown boxer named bello and the other one a black pitbull with white eartips named charlie" then that would be interesting. but still there would be the question: who cares about the dogs? tell me something useful, old man, not that some long gone dogs are ok... -
