you are free to choose what you want.
yeah, that's the impression you have. but in fact you'd choose the same thing over and over again if you'r life would be set back and you wouldn't know the consequences of your decision.
one thing we often hear is "if i knew back then what i know now, i would have decided differently". but the fact is, you didn't know what you know now back then. so there's no way to decide differently.

It cannot be denied
by logansrun inimagine in your mind any "evil" person: rapist, murderer, theif, addict, terrorist...etc.
now, if you were born with that exact dna, had that same brain chemistry and went through the same enviornmental stimuli and life experiences as they did, you would do the exact same "evil" things.
we only think we are "free.

Trouble for Richie?
by RichieRich inso today, after the meeting, one of the elders from my jc walks up to me and my mother and asks if we had time to talk.
thankfully, i had to get to work, and mom wasn't feeling great.
we said today wasn't good.. so basiccally he said that he and another brother want to meet with us on wednsday night, after the tms, to "see how things are going".. so here's quandry:.

"see how things are going"
oh yeah. they always want to "see how things are going". at least once in a while.
while i always tell them not to come, i guess you are not "allowed" to speak for yourself because you're 17.. LOL. strange isn't it? you need your mom there with you talking to the elders, but you didn't need her for taking a refreshing bath at the convention.
one thing i planned to do next time they get me, is using the word "truth" the way i understand it... playing the semantics game.
like: "the truth is very important to me. the truth is in my heart. however, because of circumstances, i am not able to publicly advertise the truth. at least for the moment. but i'm sure someday i'll be strong enough to give it a try."
only problem would be if they asked what i meant by "truth". but i think they got only one application for it in their brains... -

most hated analogies
by googlemagoogle inwe've already got some "most hated" threads on here, like "most hated bible verse" or "most hated meeting", don't know if there's another thread on metaphors/analogies.
one of the most used analogies used is the "jehovah's like a loving father holding your hand and leading you, you can trust him like a little child trusts his father".
i don't know how often i heard that one.

there is no free will. we take decisions based on so many factors, influences and circumstances, that we cannot conciously see all of them. thus we have the imagination of free will.
just like an event may appear random in our little view, but in the big picture it was just the logical consequence of previous events.
what we are is a big cocktail of DNA, upbringing, education, hormons, and what not... everything we do has a reason. even if we want to change the way we are - which by some might be considered free will - it has a reason.
nevertheless, by the same procedure, morals were buildt. and decisions always produce consequences. and logically we have to live with them. or not. depending on how your cocktail was mixed. -

When Did You Realize That You REALLY Were Going To Die?
by minimus inand not live forever on paradise earth?

i never believed i'd die or grow old for that matter. but then again, i never believed i'd be more than twenty years old somewhen when i was a teen.
growing old still is far off, so i never think about it. haven't planned my life yet. the idea of growing old actually came from my wife. she always thought we'd grow old and die somewhen. it was disturbing for me as a believing dub. but maybe this also helped me to think out of the box. -

Europe - Do Their Leaders Have the Guts?
by roybatty inregarding iran's nuke program, the evil george bush stood on the sideline and let the europeans do it their way via diplomacy through the u.n. well, iran has basically told them to screw off and has now re-started it's nuke program and seems to have no intention to stop their development of nukes.
this u.n. delegation has now given iran the "eleventh hour warning" which they will laugh at.
soon it will be brought before the u.n. security counsel and a recommendation to impose sanctions against iran will be made and voted upon.

i dont know if this applies to all european countries, but here we don't refer to our politicians as "leaders" anymore.
and for what i know, iran is not planning to build a nuke.
and really, it wouldn't bother me. as long as one nation has a nuke, it does not matter if another one got one too. -

Watch those Germans!!!!!
by Gill ini was having trouble sleeping the other night and switched the tv on to bbc 2. there was a programme on about the sw region of africa and a country called namibia.
early in the 20th century namibia was under the control of the german colonialists.
the germans were rather keen on getting more land for themselves as there were a couple of large tribes of black peoples living in namibia.

Some of them still giving each other the hitler greeting.
do they raise their right arm and say "heil hitler" or do they simply say "heil"? because "heil" is very common and not really connected to the hitler greeting (anymore).
"racial superiority" regarding other "races" and jews is a christian thing, not a german paradigm. ALL christian colonialist countries had black slaves and thought themselves superior to them. they could prove it with the bible. and ALL christian countries had huge problems with antisemitism.
but "racial superiority" aint that "new" either. just think about bible "history". -

Is the problem with the JWs or the Bible?
by sonnyboy inthis topic is a spin-off of another, but i'd like to hear people's opinions.. since the witnesses spew numerous biblical passages which seem to justify their beliefs and practices, who's exactly to blame for their less-than-human approach to life?
what laws do the jws live by that are not justified in some way by the judeo-christian bible?
is shunning justified in the scriptures?

there is not one faith that takes ALL of the bible serious, simply because the bible does not promote ONE theology. don't forget it's not ONE book, it's a compilation of many books. you might also research a bit on the history of our current (protestant) canon (tehre are still some 5 or more canons around). for me this was an eye opener.
the compilation of the canon was nothing more spirit-guided than the watchtower.
