i would have never been born if russel wouldn't have founded the watchtower society... that's why i'm glad timemachines and "what if" scenarios don't exist.
and... killing jesus didn't prevent christendom from happening either. could have been stopped back then.

If I could go back in time and stop myself from being a JW!
by inquirer ini wish i had a time-machine, to visit my old self and bring myself into the "internet era" (around 1994 -- that was when yahoo came out anyway) and show sites like these and others and warn the "original inquirer" what i would get myself into.
if only i had a tardis!
that would do wonders!

The sin of the rebel
by IP_SEC inrebellion is one of the greatest sins to the witnesses.
if you believe the bible, there are many good examples to show why rebellion is wrong.
satan, korah, adam and eve, are used by the society to show that to be loyal to the organization is the right thing to do.

if you're out there, thank you for showing us a good time and being the rebel.
dito.
as for rebels: what about russel? if he wouldn't have questioned and doubted some fundamental beliefs in his old religion(s) there would never have been a watchtower society.
hmmm... from this point of view: rebels ARE bad after all! -

Do JWs track down people who just leave?
by Gadget ini've just been reading an article online about mormons, where when they just leave the church there is a department that tries to track them down to try and get them to return to the faith.
has the jws ever done this?.
"we could use more volunteers," said price.

Seminary education
by Justin inas has been demonstrated on this forum, the only two positions regarding religion which are logically consistent are fundamentalism and unbelief (whether of the atheist or agnostic variety).
an in-between position, though some of us would like to hold it, is not logically persuasive.
yet, that is exactly the situation which is produced in mainline (or "liberal") seminaries today.

i'd actually agree with you (made my way from JW fundy to liberal christian to skeptic to agnostic to atheist) but i know ross would come up with some weird questions.

i think you talk about the belief that the bible is god's word, not the "christian belief" (whatever that is... people stretch and bow that term...).
there are different beliefs about the bible, some of them listed here:
- every word in the bible was dictated by god
- the bible's spirit reflects god's spirit
- some parts of the bible are inspired
- none of the bible is inspired
- everything in the bible has to be taken literally
- some parts of the bible are using symbolic language
- ...
if someone doesn't take parts of the bible literally anymore, he's on subjective territory. because there's no indication in the bible as to what is literal and what's symbol.
however, many people won't object to that, because faith's subjective anyway.
and you don't need the bible to be a xian. or so i was told. -

CHEATING ON FIELD SERVICE
by chuckyy intowards the end of my time as a jw, i must confess to cheating whilst out on field service.. 1. i would turn up at the field service arrangement with my wife, and we would say that we were working together that day to do return visits.
as everyone went out, we would simply get into our car and drive home.
(hypocritical i know).

with my back then girlfriend we just took walks around the territory, because someone told us that "even our presence is a good witness". we were simply present.. lol
additionally, all my reports (and all other reports in my congregation) were always faked. -

ah now i remember. it's the guy with that website about him being jesus or something. always mixing up all languages and giving words different meanings. yes, that's funny.
elijah
el = spanish for "he"
i = english for "i" (me)
ja = german for "yes" but with "h" it is "yeah"
that would be "heiyeah", just like in the guns'n'roses cover of "knocking on heavens door" - hey, hey, hey hey, yeah!
