Last week I started growing a beard!!!
LOL... i stepped through most of the steps you mention, but having a beard already when still being a zealot.
i think the reason why he asked your report is, that after some 4 or 5 months of not giving them a report, you are considered inactive.

Getting fed up with fading
by Pole inok, so here is my story in put a nutshell: .
1. i first had "nagging doubts" about the borg some three years ago (after 6 years of being a faithful witness).
2. i stopped avoiding "apostate" internet sites some 1.5 years ago, which really helped me confirm my doubts.

interpretation of the bible as a whole
aaah.... there IS no "bible as a whole". there never was. there always was a bunch of independent scrolls and they grew over time.
when there were too many, some guy thought it would be a good idea to throw a few of them out. he wrote a list of sacred books/letters, probably sacred books/letters and not so sacred books/letters. but just about everyone got him wrong...
some thought, the probably sacred books would not be sacred, some thought the completely heretic books would be inspired (revelation for example) and it was a big chaos, so every religious group by then decided to use their own selection of books again. later they called it canon.
in the 16th century the catholic church confirmed it's canon of 72 books. luther was with jerome and used 66 "inspired" books but also translated the other "deuterocanonical" books. the later protestant religions, jw's are one of them, use the luther tradition. there are MANY other canons. -

i know perfectly how it feels... for talking out loud i lost the "privilege" to read a while ago. since i've not been attending bookstudy regularly anymore, because it's just too hard to stomach. i thought the daniel and isaia books couldn't be topped, but the "draw closer to jehovah" indeed does.
last weeks bookstudy was about why the bible was written down (a load of crap too). the logic was something like: "moses wrote down the law, because oral tradition changes over time". so what about the genesis account? i had a hard time keeping myself from commenting...

Disfellowshipping and Shunning- is it scriptual?
by MonkeyPrincess intonight my sister told me our dad had mentioned that when you do not associate yourself with a disfellowshipped person, relative or not, you are honoring god and following the bible's guidlines.
i asked my sister if she knew where in the bible it states that.
she said she did not know, but knows that its in there, and knows that it relates something to that affect.

afaik it's always been like that. talking to disfellowshipped family members was more or less ok, until recently (last year?) when they published a "good example" in the kingdom ministry, about a couple shunning their mother and telling her they wouldn't visit her nor talk to her until she'd come back.
we all know they don't write examples just as an example but as a rule... it still aint that much of a problem contacting disfellowshipped relatives, but some congregations probably handle this more rigorously. -

Christ a gay person?
by Undecided in.
someone sent my wife an email to put her name on a list to prohibit a movie suggesting christ was a gay person.. i answered saying if god and christ didn't care enough to stop it, why should i care?.

yeah, when i saw the title about "christ being gay" and last post by leolaia, i figured this could be a thread about secret mark... as far as i remember there's something about that lightly dressed young man that jesus loved. and the boy in kana.

World War 1 and 1914
by Schizm in.
how did it just so happen that a world war took place in the very year that russell had attached so much importance to?
i realize that he expected 1914 to see the end of the world's governments, and of course that didn't happen, but it still seems to be quite remarkable that this war happened that very year ... a war that would later be construed to be the fulfillment of jesus' prediction in matthew 24:7.. the explanation given on the e-watchman site is that satan deliberately caused the war to happen so as to mislead jehovah's witnesses into thinking they had actually seen the fulfillment of bible prophecy, in order to make them think that jesus had returned invisably.. any ideas?.

the more stupid an argument is, the easier it is accepted by (some) people...
what about the jews having the right religion and jesus was sent by satan to bring them off the right path? now, that sounds pretty valid to me...

Most JW prove satan told the truth
by vitty insatan said to jehovah "they only serve you, cos of what they can get out of you" or words to that effect.
this is only my opinion but what do you think?.
a few : i believe serve god cos they love him.. some: they want to see someone they love who has died again.

oh my.. i went to bookstudy (haven't been there in a while) and they study that "get closer to jehovah" book, or what it is called. i had a hard time not freaking out... they really think everyone is dumb. yeah, jehovah is so loving and merciful... no talk about the genocide, the canaanite holocaust the bible loves to talk about. and yeah, how great that men wrote the bible, not angels... and how great that god wrote it in a book and doesnt talk to us from heaven above. this way the believers are sorted out... oh my god, i was close to explode.

Honour Your Parents No Matter How Bad They Are..
by Englishman in..and by logical extension, imho, you'll always show a deep respect for your brooklyn parent too.. look at this from a young people ask article:.
>>>>>parents who are hot-tempered or immoral, who are drunkards, or who bicker with each other?are they really worthy of honor?
yes, for the bible condemns holding any parent "in derision.

that was one of the biggest problems i had when growing up. because of domestic violence, i didn't talk to my father, not even greet him (sort of disfellowshipped him). when talking about him with others i'd only refer to him as "the idiot", not "my dad". hell, was that elder shocked, when he found out i haven't been talking to my father in 10 years... lol. you know what they wanted to do, to improve the relationship? offer me a biblestudy conducted by elder most-conservative AND MY FATHER! of course i never accepted.
after moving out i was able to think a bit more objective on the matter. and all my fathers agressions can be explained with the social circumstances we lived in and him having diabetes without knowing it. but you wont try to justify that when you are a kid and beaten up every now and then... -

again, you don't get my point. but it seems a objective discussion on that topic is not possible. sorry for expressing my point.
