however, although john 1:1 does not suggest that the word = "the" god, it does not refute the trinitarian concept either.
one huge problem is, that many don't even know what the trinity is all about. and that the trinity is not one single concept, but there are many concepts. it's more or less a matter of definition. even the JW view could be called trinity. -

Evidence for the Exodus?
by Cardinal Fang inone for the historians here...
was round visiting my jw mother and bro (who stays with my folks when he's in the area working) the other night.
the conversation swung round to a documentary they'd been watching on video earlier that evening, supposedly putting forward all sorts of archaeological evidence for the exodus, including coral-encrusted remains of chariots at the bottom of the red sea, no less.

yes, a lot of things may be believable, but however... there is NO evidence for israel's exodus from egypt.
on the contrary, a greek historian in the 3rd or 4th century b.c. (just off my head, you could easily look it up) - although this one is pretty biased - wrote that a bunch of sick poor people were THROWN OUT of egypt.
all the stories like the fall of jericho never happened. israel evolved from some nomad canaanite tribes, some midianite shepards don't know what else...
i bet you could find some good books on this topic on amazon, regrettably i only know german books on this topic. -

actually the NWT translates john 1:1 pretty well. the problem here is, that the meaning has to be translated, not the words alone.
if you translate word by word, it would be:
in the begining there was *the* word
and *the* word was with *the* god
and god was *the* word
now in english that sounds like "the word" = "the god", but that's not what the greek text suggests. notice that there's no *the* before the final god, which means it's not the specific god, or god the almighty, but more it is the nature. or *godly*.
thus some translate "and *godly* was the word". "and god was the word" is ok too, but the meaning is not as clear. "and *a* god was the word" or "and the word was *a* god" as the NWT puts it, is just as correct. -

Perhaps All Roads do Lead to Rome
by LouBelle ini enjoy discussing god with people from all walks of life & all beliefs.
this is just something that has been skipping about in my brain...is it possible that god appeared to different cultures as different gods????
to the jews of the ancient days he appeared as yahweh, to the buddhist as budda, to the christians as jesus, to the moselim as allah etc etc.. i know the witnesses taught that everyone doesn't worship the true god & not all religions lead to god.

"man made god in his image".
there are maybe many similarities in many religions, but there are also huge differences, that's why there are religious wars and such. that's why many christian groups are against ecumene (how the heck do you write that in english?).
religions are so different that if there's a god, it's not possible that all of these religions are right. but for the followers, their own religion of course is right.
there is no way to determine which religion is right or wrong.
most religions accept one god or many gods, but reject other gods (there are some inclusive religions though). now if you are "traditional" (added for LT) judeoislamochristian for example, you accept one god, but dismiss the others. this makes you an atheist, exept for one god. but it makes you an atheist for millions of other gods.
i chose to be such an atheist, with the difference to dismiss one more god. so if you don't believe in 199,999,998 gods i don't believe in 199,999,999 gods. not much of a difference.
