SALUBRIOUS (sul--ooo-bree-us)

SPECIFICITY (Spess-uh-fiss-uh-tee)
because of another thread i got curious about whether many people have a favourite word.
i've never really gotten over my first love, which was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (seems like there ought to be a comma in there somewhere).
but that's not really a word.

Der Farkelmeister raises an important focus.
Why doesn't the Bible writer ("Daniel") simply say what he means? It has the makings of an amateur's attempt to plot a murder mystery with "clues" everywhere.
The Creation "days", we are told, are not literal days at all. But, the scripture talks about an "evening and a morning" over and over. The retreat into REDEFINITION of simple everyday words smacks of desperation.
Daniel's SEVEN TIMES means what, exactly? Why pose the prophecy as a multiplication problem? In Hebrew, Greek it was positively difficult backbreaking work to multiply large numbers--because.......why?
Because they HAD NO NUMBERS! The letters of their alphabet did double-duty for numbers.
Imagine if we had to do that in English! A=1, B=2, C=3 etc. Could you even balance your checkbook? (Can you anyway? :)
Writing a spooky prophecy and making the whole business seem "divine" must have provoked the wording and the folderol. Hocus-Pocus and little else!
How would the prophecy be any different if Daniel simply said, "Nebuchadnezzer is going to be a werewolf for seven years" ?
Why interpret the years as days? Why force the days to be multiplied?
Why view this as a minor fulfillment and apply it to Messianic computations?
If it isn't given to man to understand God's timetable; it seem there are a lot of timetable redherring clues being planted!
Stuff and nonsense, I say!
(Feigned embaressed blush)
Gosh. Thanks.

My motto is: I am absolutely certain I don't know a damned thing!
world history since the first century has been crammed full of failed prediction of the the messiah coming, jesus return, the rapture, etc.
why don't we see how many of these events we can list?
if you have a source; please list it.

Who made the prediction, what was it based on? What happened as a result?
One of my favorites is the mild mannered Methodist writer* GEORGE BELL, who writing in a London magazine, predicted the fall of the Pope (as anti-christ) to happen sometime between 1797 and 1813. (I believe he was using Daniel Chapter 12).
He was writing during the French revolution and amazingly his prophetic words seemed to come true! The French army took the Pope himself captive and banished him. This confirmed the date of 1799 as a remarkable fulfillment of Bible Prophecy. This was seen as marking the beginning of the "last days".

Duh!
I never thought of that!
methinks i pushed the topic button a wee tad too early!
here is what i meant to say.
if nobody else is responsible, then, are you?
How many of us were "prepared" when the first JW approached us?
None of us, I'd reckon.
Put a well-trained person of any pursuit in the arena with an untrained neophyte and there is no contest.
The ministry of door-to-door work is geared toward argumentation, defense, counter-offensive and propaganda. It is smooth.
A JW does not listen to "hear". A JW listens to determine how to counter an objection.
There is nothing objective in the Witness ministry. It is a form of mind assault rigorously designed to disarm your own meager defenses.
My point is this. Anybody might be said to be "responsible" for defending themselves against a Jehovah's Witness and their devilish presentation; but, the truth is, it is a task few experts could handle.
The indoctrination of a JW is intense, relentless and all pervasive. Almost every meeting, article or assembly program is a non-stop training course in how to disarm and persuade.
The end result of this is that the "victim" who listens and follows the messege will only have the ultimate decision of when and how to escape. That is where the real responsibility comes in to play.

Nathan---thank you! I tried to correct my original post; but the system resists!
What is funny about my attempt to explain is that I THOUGHT I WAS EXPLAINING IT RIGHT in order to show how wrong it is!
I think it would be very amusing to ask any currently active JW to explain the links and see how accurate they could be. Would we be surprised?

WEAKEST LINKS logically in the Watchtower Society's chronology of end times.
In Daniel's chapter four prophecy he uses the expression: "seven times". This expression is applied to Nebuchadnezzer. This king of Babylonia would become a werewolf (lycanthrope) for seven years.
Watchtower application:
1.There is a latter day application to the prophecy in Daniel.
2.The application points to the destruction of Jerusalem.
3.That event happened in 607 B.C.E.
4.Those Gentile Times end in 1914 C.E.
5.Seven Times means seven years of 360 days each.
6.A "day for a year" applies to these 360 days.
7. Seven times 360=2,520 days for Nebuchadnezzer's werewolf mania.
8.A day for a year in the latter day fulfillment gives us 2,500 years for Gentile domination
(Never explain Watchtower chronology late at night after two glasses of wine!)

Daniel Chapter 4 tells about the 7 times of King Nebuchadnezzer. He is to become like a beast of the field during those 7 times. Let us count the links to get us to 1914.
PREMISE: Those 7 times are seven years of 360 days each.
1.The SEVEN times must represent SEVEN actual years for King Nebuchadnezzer to become a werewolf. (Lycanthrope)
2.The event actually happened
3.There is a a "greater" application of this prophecy.
4.The application of "a day for a year" applies to the 360 day years.
5.7x360=2,520 consequently the latter-day application =2,520 actual years
6.These years apply to a concept called The Gentile times and refers to the domination of Jerusalem by gentiles until the coming of Messiah's kingdom.
7.This event can be placed in history accurately to a time and place.
8.The beginning of this Gentile Times ocurred in 607 B.C.E. and ended in 1914 C.E.
IF ANY ONE OF THOSE LINKS IS WRONG THE ENTIRE PROPHECY IS WRONG.
How many other weak links can you spy?
