i've read the bible and i don't recall satan himself actually ever doing anything evil or harmful... however i read many accounts where god killed or tormented countless thousands of people for arbitrary reasons.. aside from prophecies where jehover says that satan will hurt people in the future (hasn't happened yet, and no sign that it will happen), can anyone cite an example in the bible where satan actually harmed anyone?.
I feel like I am trying to defend a new religion or something.
you know, i was thinking...
the only people that know the bible better than jehovahs witnesses are ex-jehovahs witnesses. its a big risk trying to debate points from the bible on an X-JW board.

Darth Vader was clearly the bad guy in the movie....but, he repesented the empire. Luke, Leia and Obiwan were rebels fighting to overthrow the empire. So who really was the bad guy?
attaboy. see, that's how you do it. it's just that easy to argue for the divine ties to any story.
A person would justifiably disipline a child as a consequence of their actions.
It would be unjust to punish a child as a consequence, that would be over-correction.

you know what just hit me? we're debating the dialogue of a story that has been proven time and time again to be completely fictitious. next, why don't we debate what luke skywalker really meant in his first line from star wars.

p.s. spanking and being locked out are consequences, you wouldn't spank a child for being locked out and you wouldn't lock a child out for being spanked. That would be punishment. If God had kicked A & E out of the garden before they had sinned it would have been punishment and unjust. He was perfectly justified in what He did, and we have to live with the consequences.
ah...you just gotta love the debate that declines into arguing semantics.
i've personally never heard even the most diehard biblethumper argue that god did not punish adam and eve. i'd love to hear your definition of 'punishment' (i think i'm hearing you say that for punishment to be punishment it has to be unjustified, is that correct?)

so by your logic, the parent who says to their child, "the doors are locked at such and such a time. if you're not home by your curfew, you will be locked out.", and then subsequently locks the child out, is not punishing the child for staying out late?
the "consequence" is still instituted by the parent and therefore the power to enforce or withdraw the "consequence" is their's alone. a consequence which can be removed and is not, is a punishment.

sorry, i must have missed something.
if man dies because of inherited sin (as pretty much all bible based religions believe), why do animals die?.
if sin is "falling short of god's will" and sin results in death, how have animals "fallen short" thus deserving death?
if there was a dog messiah, would animals be redeemed as well?

hmm...all i can say is that by the definitions of god and satan presented here in this thread, it would appear that satan has taken a far more active interest in the world today than god or jesus.
oh, one more thing...tolerance of viewpoints and beliefs has to go both ways.

Satan brought God's wisdom into question.
correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't moses question the wisdom of god's direction to go before the pharoah? god must've learned to lighten up by then.
