Hawk & outnfree,
Thanks for the suggestions. I know that there is no way for any JW to wriggle out of this. I t's just no use when they don't WANT to see it. I may try later with him, who knows?

I understand that the press officer at the office of public information at London Bethel on 10/22 responded to the Guardian article by refuting, point by point, the "factual errors" contained in that article. As it happens the society did apply for DPI/NGO status in 1991 for the purpose of getting access to the UN's library. In 1991 there was no requirement to sign off on a statement endorsing UN principles. In effect they were applying for a "library card". It seems that that requirement came after Kofi Annan's arrival as part of a general tightening up effected by Annan. Evidently, this requirement was slipped in unnoticed. If the Society is quilty of anything it is that they went unaware of this new requirement.
Additionally, I have learned that the Society had an observer at the UN sessions for many years. Just as in the case of the press, media or any interested observer it does not necessarily constitute endorsement. I understand that the library access was a more cost effective expedient for accessing UN info..
If and when I get any more detail on this I will pass it on. Otherwise, I will abide by your wish to limit conversation to light non-confrontational issues. Hope you and your family are well.

BadWillie & Wife are the Local Needs!
by badwillie inlast night's meeting at our congregation was exactly 2 weeks since our public reproof.. my wife was in attendance.
the local needs talk was about...apostasy!.
this of course lets the congregation know exactly what our reproof was for.

Thanks again for all the sympathy!
Mike and DIM,
I think you're right, I really need to keep my head down more than ever so that this doesn't go to the next level.

Xena & Closer,
My wife has her eyes wide open now, so I don't worry about our future anymore. In the beginning, when I was still discovering all this stuff she was very resistant to anything I showed her, I wondered for a while if we would be a divided household. But the way the elders dealt with her really did it for her - it's like a light went off in her head and then she wanted to know everything I know. My friends are definitely NOT the same towards me. My social life is pretty much gone now. Nobody calls, nobody invites me over to watch games or any of the usual stuff. This is probably because I stopped attending the meetings. My "friendships" were completetly conditional on me accepting everything the Org says/does.

Hello all,
Last night's meeting at our congregation was exactly 2 weeks since our Public Reproof.
My wife was in attendance. The Local Needs talk was about...APOSTASY!
This of course lets the congregation know exactly what our reproof was for. If people only knew that we were simply asking questions.
We have not started our own break-away church, and we are not worshipping Satan! Anyway, just wanted to let you all know that the saga continues..thanks for all the support.

If you already have the picture scanned in, then you should be able to simply cut and paste into the body of your post or email.
If it isn't workning maybe Simon could help. He seems like a helpful, friendly chap! -

I have a letter from the WTS explaining the OFFICIAL beards policy.
It is on WT letterhead. So this should put this subject to rest.
I will scan it later tonight and load it onto this thread.

fading away quietly
by DIM inmy wife and i are moving 3000 miles away so that we can fade away as jehovah's witnesses.
i am looking for suggestions as to what i should do about our publisher record cards (keep them in pa?, get them forwarded to seattle?
) so that we can start our lives on the west coast with a fresh start and so we'll just be left alone...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hey DIM,
Here is a summary for you the suggestions made so far that I really liked:1) Tell the elders you will be staying with relatives/friends until you find a place and will then inform then where you want your cards forwarded when you find a congregation. Of course, you never find a congregation.
2) Establish a PO Box as soon as you get there (this is a very inexpensive way to give people back in PA a way to keep in touch without knowing the EXACT street you live on)
3)Dont give anyone your address. NOBODY. Only your PO Box
Now, here's what I would add:
4) if you don't have already, get caller ID for the phone.
5) When witnesses come-a-knockin', which they surely will eventually since Seattle is a metropolitan area, DONT give in to temptation to engage them in a discussion. Not too long ago my wife met a nice lady while out in door-to-door, the woman became a regular "return visit". She eventually told my wife that she was an inactive witness (her husband not a witness). My wife, doing her duty, promptly told the Service Overseer about her. The elders made a couple of "shepherding" visits to encourage(harass)her.
