If YOUR Child Turned Out To Be A Child Abuser Would You Hate Him?
by minimus inlet me say, from the beginning, that i believe child abuse is disgusting and terrible and abusers should be punished.. we often react to the subject by getting very riled up, sometimes threatening to beat up or even kill an abuser.. i wonder, would you feel the same way if you realized that your child was an abuser?.

well....I don't hate my abuser. He is a part of my family. I think I would feel different towards the abuser of my children, however. I'd kill. If it were my child inflicting the abuse...I don't know. We have a trial going on here of a kid who killed his coworkers in cold blood. I think about his mother. How do you feel when your child commits such a horrific crime?
I think I would still love my child, but hate what they did.

confused - reading this made me very angry. What a horrible, unloving attitude! That they are willing to use you for money and put this convoluted, twisted guilt trip on you is unconscionable.
You have no obligation towards them under the circumstances. You are a kind, good, moral person, which they clearly recognize since they are playing on that so they can use you. Just because you share genetic blood does not mean they are your family. I agree with Clarity and the others. Let your father and brother accept their own responsibility. Tell your father that declaring bankruptcy IS accepting responsibility and "letting your yes mean yes". It doesn't completely absolve you of debt, so he still has to pay his bills. Or even better, the bankruptcy trustees can help him negotiate a creditor repayment agreement which will allow him to pay something each month towards the bills. That way he's accepting full responsibility without involving you. He can pay the "wordly" lenders $100 a month without having his conscience bothered by taking your tainted money.
Just a final thought - make sure you are taking care of yourself through all this. Your situation is incredibly difficult and can wear you down quickly. Be good to yourself and focus on the future, and the complete freedom that awaits you.

This is a fascinating thread, ST. Thank you for starting it. Some really interesting research and food for thought you and SammieLee have provided. Too many people are afraid to challenge long-standing concepts of what's good for us. But flouridation came into popularity back in the stone ages of dentistry. My own teeth were ruined by it when I was a kid. Our knowledge has increased significantly, and I think it's time for these kinds of debates. Just because something has been done a certain way for a long time, does it mean it's right?
We've had flouridation accidents here, too, but they claim no one got sick or died so it was okay. I do appreciate the analogy of forcible public medicating. I had not seen it that way previously, but it's certainly something worth thinking seriously about.

watchtower tones down apostate talk at august 3rd convention!
by nowwhat? inno mention of them being mentally diseased or using "lies" to deceive god's people, just that they are out to attract followers for themselves!.

i was cringing at the thought of sitting for 3 1/2 hours for the afternoon session but fortunately my one kid got sick!!

Interesting. If you compare the one posted here in English
with the dutch version just posted on this thread (via Google translate)
I don`t know which assemblies either was at, and the translation of the first is a bit rough via Google, but the second one definately seems less virulent than the first.

You are 100% right, Zed, and I completely agree. I've been deeply disturbed by this article ever since I saw this thread, but I've avoided commenting as I don't want to start a forum argument about Eric - he deserves to be left in peace.
Dick and his group have appropriated someone's name and reputation and used it for their own purposes with no thought to the potential consequences to others.
When using someone's experience publicly like that it is necessary to obtain permission. With a suicide the onus is to be even more considerate of privacy, as many families are very sensitive to this. With a JW or ex-JW, as you've pointed out, Zed, making this information public is the worst betrayal of all.
The fact that Dick and his group would take information from this forum and publicize it without permission, using the words selectively to support their agenda whether or not they are true, is something that should deeply concern all of us who post here.

You atheist really annoyed me
by confusedandalone inwhen i first came to this site.
whenever i would try to talk about somethign from the bible that the jw's got wrong or reason on a scripture that had so much feeling you would stomp all over it.
talking about "flying spaghetti gods" and laugh at what seemed to be my expense and then leave the thread never to return and add any substance.

I agree with Captain Obvious. It's a journey. I still believed in god, bible, etc. when I left JWs. Then I went to university and learned how to think critically. It didn't take long before I started seeing the bible as nothing more than an old book written by a bunch of different people.
It's really only been in the last few years that I've come to realize that I'm a complete athiest and started to see the truth in Dawkins and Hitchens and Mr. Diety. Many of my opinions and beliefs have shifted now that my eyes have opened.

ACtually, the article is fascinating. There's a lot of validity in the research. For a long time transfusions have been used as therapy without a lot of investigation being done into the negative effects. I don't agree with JWs willingness to let someone die, but I also think it's okay to question a treatment. This is the first time I've read such in-depth information about the negatives of blood transfusion.
I think JWs may have made some docs and researchers rethink how they use the therapy, but they have done a lot of harm by being wiling to die for a belief that has no basis.
When I was still a JW I always said that even if I was not a JW, I would question blood as a treatment and actively look for alternatives. I haven't changed that opinion, and this article seems to lend weight to that thinking.
