Olin,
This is precisely the line of reasoning that I am working up for my inevitable confrontation! I'm so happy to see some one else who's planning this out. I'm hoping that playing this line out with my family/elders will show them the sincerity of my actions.
Here's a few other scriptures that I expect out of the pro JW side :
Phil. 1:27-28 - "27 Only behave in a manner worthy of the good news about the Christ, in order that, whether I come and see YOU or be absent, I may hear about the things which concern YOU, that YOU are standing firm in one spirit, with one soul striving side by side for the faith of the good news, 28 and in no respect being frightened by YOUR opponents. This very thing is a proof of destruction for them, but of salvation for YOU; and this [indication] is from God,"
Ps 133:1 - “Look! How good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!”
Heb 13:17 - "17 Be obedient to those who are taking the lead among YOU and be submissive, for they are keeping watch over YOUR souls as those who will render an account; that they may do this with joy and not with sighing, for this would be damaging to YOU."
Here are my arguments for truth's supremacy over "unity" amongst JW's.
Jos 24:14 - "14 “And now fear Jehovah and serve him in faultlessness and in truth, and remove the gods that YOUR forefathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt, and serve Jehovah. "
1 Sam 12:24 - ". 24 Only fear Jehovah, and YOU must serve him in truth with all YOUR heart; for see what great things he has done for YOU."
Ps 25:4, 5 - "4 Make me know your own ways, O Jehovah; Teach me your own paths. 5 Make me walk in your truth and teach me, For you are my God of salvation."
Also Ps 26:3-6; Ps 43:3; Ps 86:11; Isa 38:3; 2 Pe 2:2;
Actually there's a ton of scriptures that I'm working in from the "Truth" heading in the Insight book.
I'm still doing the research on "unity" to head off their attack routes. All of the WT references about unity that I have found so far use such non specific language that it's hard to pick out those few important sentences or scriptures. I've also found a ton of articles about being "united in love" and the like, I actually think I will be able to use those against them. Being united in our love for neighbor and christ does NOT mean the same as being united under the WTBTS and their unique doctrine.
Wow, I got windy, sorry just excited is all.

Which is More Important: Doctrinal Correctness or Unity?
by Olin Moyles Ghost inlately i have done a lot of thinking about the inevitable discussions i will have with family and friends about my (and their) beliefs.
i have begun running through some hypothetical conversations in my mind.
today, i thought of a particular line of reasoning and would like to hear any comments/criticism from the board.

it's a personal decision.

I'd say it turned out pretty good! I couldn't get the back perfectly even, but whatever. This decision probably falls somewhere in between monumentally stupid and brilliant. I'm sure I'll get a few giggles and chides for the crooked back, and the uniform look, but whatever. "I'm made of rubber and you're made of glue. Whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you!"

I'm dealing horribly with it. My Brother In Law (31) announced he's anointed just a few weeks ago. I started a thread about it.

Whether she listens or not is her choice. Do your part to save someone else emotionally and physically if at all possible. -

Looking : What do you think? Should I just do it?
Cute Walgreen's Girl : I don't know. It's a personal decision.
L : Well, I know it's a personal decision, but I need some neutral input. My family and friends are all very against it.
CWG : What's the worst that could happen? It'll either be a great choice, or a monumentally stupid one.
L : The worst? Well, my family and friends could shun me entirely!
CWG : That seems a bit extreme. That won't last forever anyway, it's not like it's permanent.
L : It could be. What if I stick with this choice forever? The way I see it, it will save me time, money, and hassle.
CWG : But it could also get you made fun of and called names, or people will avoid you like the plague, probably temporarily though.
L : So you are all for it?
CWG : Yeah, I think so. It seems like there are more upsides than downsides.
L : (Thinking) (Strumming fingers) Alright, thanks for the help.
CWG : So you are going to do it?!? You're braver than I would be. That'll be $11.90.
L : Sweet, thanks.
At that I took my hair clipper kit and came home to cut my own hair.
HAH! I bet you that that conversation was about something else entirely! Now I just have to wait and see what the wife thinks when she gets home from the serve-us meeting.

WT 73 pgs. 547-548 "A Bible in Every Catholic Home"
WHAT ABOUT INTERPRETATION?
But some individuals ask: ‘Is not the Bible open to many interpretations? If I were to read it on my own, wouldn’t I risk the possibility of falling into error?’ The Bible itself shows how to avoid that pitfall. At Genesis 40:8 we read: “Are not interpretations God’s business?” (Jerusalem Bible) How could one apply that principle today?
Of course, it does not mean that God will come down from heaven to speak audibly with one who is reading the Bible. But one can arrive at the interpretation God gives by letting one part of his inspired Word explain another. To a considerable extent, the Word of God is self-interpreting.
This emphasizes the importance of regular reading of the Bible. It will equip the reader to make the necessary comparisons of verses to clear up difficult passages. So the matter of interpretation should encourage rather than discourage Bible reading.
If you are Catholic, has your priest encouraged you to read the Bible and to compare what you find there with the teachings of the Catholic Church? Most priests have not done so. Why not? Please examine the facts in the following chart and draw your own conclusion.
From here on I reserve my right to read only the bible, and to come to my own interpretations and conclusions as guided by God.
AW 70 4/22 pg. 8 "Changes That Disturb People" - I suggest you read the whole article.
Changes That Disturb People
THE churches are in rapid decline. Even in the United States, where religion still enjoys perhaps the greatest popularity, nearly three out of four persons polled said that it is losing influence. Why is there this decline in religion?
One of the reasons is that people are disturbed by what is happening in their churches. Yes, millions of persons have been shocked to learn that things they were taught as being vital for salvation are now considered by their church to be wrong. Have you, too, felt discouragement, or even despair, because of what is happening in your church? A businessman in Medellín, Colombia, expressed the effect the changes have had on many.
“Tell me,” he asked, “how can I have confidence in anything? How can I believe in the Bible, in God, or have faith? Just ten years ago we Catholics had the absolute truth, we put all our faith in this. Now the pope and our priests are telling us this is not the way to believe any more, but we are to believe ‘new things.’ How do I know the ‘new things’ will be the truth in five years?”
What are some of these changes that disturb people?
From here on I reserve my right to question and be disturbed by changes to teachings, doctrine, and understandings that are or have been tought by the WTBTS.
Just from some reading I was doing.
