One word of advise. If you consider this person your friend, do not be so arrogant against him. leaving the witnesses is NOT easy. It is not a "just make a decision" thing. A lot of pain and desillusion comes along with it. If you are his friend, you will help him by being there for him. Not by being there for him with a smug attitude of "I told you so".

the basis of his recommendation was due to a very long friendship and not due to any association (that i do not have) with jehovahs witnesses.
he considers me his superior in intellect and wants an appraisal of this sight but to be honest i have neither the incliniation nor the time to get in deep enough to comment.

I was in a similar situation with my dad. At one point I just decided to contact him. Mostly because I did not want to live my life with the regret of not trying, and the thought of "what if...".
