well, for some jw's the gb new light is very very exciting.
in fact its the most exciting thing that has happened in a very long time.

whenever i talk to jw's, and even in some of the jw official videos, i detect a definite vibe of sadness coming off these people.. i am very sensitive to "atmospheres" and to peoples emotional state, you wouldn't think so, because more often than not i do not react to what i detect, i just let people get on with it.. but i do get this feeling that they are sad, probably because very, very, very deep down they realise that it is all false, maybe ?.
There is nothing to look forward to in the immediate future.
I have been on buses and trains on meeting nights, and seen them going to the Kingdumb Hell, they didnt know me so showed themselves as miserable sociopaths, who dont even acknowledge the existence of the other passengers if they can avoid it. UNLESS THEY WANT YOU TO TAKE A PIECE OF LITTERATURE.
And yes- they all look miserable and sad. Including the piousneer, who went round the loop on the subway twice - I sat and watched out of curiosity.
He kept looking at his watch, presumably to see if his hours were finished. I should have said something.

so, i am talking to a long time friend, you know, the non-judgmental type that doesn't really mind that i don't go to many meetings and am never out in service.
he tells me that the annual meeting is coming up and that the whole congregation is invited...well, at least the active "approved" whole congregation.
he speaks with an excitement that puzzles me, like he just got invited to the locker room of his favorite football team when they won the superbowl.
I am sure they will say everybody should take the emblems.

Another thing that has not been highlighted is that penetrative sex with a minor has been a crime since the middle ages.
Men were sent to prison for this back in the 50s too.
Caressing a child was not seen as permanently damaging. In Dawkins and his contemporaries case obviously not. Nowadays this is seen as inappropriate invasion of personal space, and recognised as such.
Teachers of physical skills such as gymnastics or playing a musical instrument now have to say WHY and HOW they intend to touch a child, what this will accomplish, and then ask permission to do so. I think this is a big step forward, as it eliminates any ambiguity.
An excellent novel dealing with this is called "The Abomination" I forget the author.

What disgusts me about the religious fanatics who will be dancing in the steets at this:
They read the OT with its accounts of Moses telling the soldiers to take any little girl they fancy, as long as they remove her toenails (WHY the toenails????) All the other murder and mayhem dished out on children, as well as the she-bear incident. No comment except "we cant judge them by contemporary standards..."
Or the Muslims who happily marry off their female children, some when only toddlers. A case this week in the news where a 40 year old husband became a widower, as his eight year old bride died of sexual injuries on the wedding night. Where is the outrage from the immams and mullahs?

We should also remember that physical abuse of children is not always sexual - it can be by means of violent assault, such as hitting with objects and shaking. Does this mean that I can get teachers prosecuted for what they did to me at school along these lines, since it happened only 25 - 30 years ago? I still cringe at the sheer viciousness of one teacher, and have not really gotten over it.

yup, there were 3 of them camped out in front of the store with their display of materials - first time i've seen them there.
he said he converted 5 years ago from the presbyterians, and that he had learned more in 1 year with the jws than all his time with the presbyterians (the usual stuff, jesus died on a stake, paradise earth, etc).
he claimed he didn't know about the invisible return of jesus, he was dismissive of the impact of disfellowshipping and that people can leave with little consequence, he claimed that the romans didn't use a cross until 200 years after jesus died on the stake.

They are just LAZY- mentally LAZY. All the teachings of for instance the Catholics are down in print, as are those of any other denomination.
