this past sunday on 60 minutes, there was a segment about the police investigation of a brutal rape and murder of a student at the university of oklahoma in 1996. the only evidence the police had was semen.
so, to catch the killer, police asked every innocent person that even remotely knew the victim to give them samples of their dna, imposing what are called dna dragnets.
many of the victim?s associates, mainly students, volunteered.
I have no problem giving a DNA sample. I don't feel it is any different than the laws requiring a breathalizer test if you are suspected of being drunk and driving, or "in control of a motor vehicle". I have no problem with the idea that DNA data is kept in a national or international database. I feel that more good that harm has, and will come from this. I also feel that the general sweep is no different than a police blockade on New Years Eve pulling everyone over and testing them for drunk driving. I believe that these "laws" are in our best interest, as are seatbelt and helmet laws. But, then, I also believe in the Darwin theory. If ya dun't wanna obey the laws (driving drunk, not wearing seatbelts or helmets), yous gets what yous gets.

I absolutely will NOT give out my Social Security Number, Driver's License Number, Financial Account numbers. I have had my ID stolen, some simply by guesswork. I now own a house in Texas that is in arrears on it's mortgage. I suppose maybe I could just pay the arrears and claim the house as mine?
Good one, XJW, but didn't she choke on a ham sandwich and have a heart attack?

change the name to the g theory (and i don't mean godzilla take the zilla off) .
i saw this documentary on discovery science the other night .
Recently, there has been a PBS show on the flip-flop of the magnetic field in the earth. That the earth's core is really a dynamo and periodically slows and stops spinning just to start up again. Scientists have shown that this has happened several times in earth's history, and may be preparing to do so again. One of the symptoms a weakening of gravity in general, and various spots on the globe where it is even weaker. The show points to the possibility that the earth is getting ready to do a flip. Scary prospect as our magnetic field is what keeps the solar winds from damaging the planet, and us.
No, Kevan's question is: Of course magnetic compases will point S instead of N, but what about GPS? And my question is: If our gravity is further weakend, will the GPS and all other satelites remain in their orbits?

an eye opener on ovarian cancer
I appreciate Frannie posting this article. I also appreciate Funky for pointing out that the article is in many ways incorrect. There are too many fear-spam e-letters circulating, and most can be looked up at hoax sites. I try to research the source of these fear-letters, and don't pass them on.

an eye opener on ovarian cancer
Ok. 2nd hand account.
I have a friend still alive today and a survivor of both types of cancer discussed in this thread. She had only slightly elevated CA125 number, so it was not a good indicator. She did NOT take "normal results" answer from her doc. She had been post-menopausal for 9 years, no spotting, and she started to bleed, was bloated, and had a fever in her abdomin. FINALLY she talked the doc into doing investigative surgury. They did a laproscopy, went in, took a look, came out and scheduled her for surgury 2 days later.
She was Stage 2, ready to mastatasize (explode). One ovary was engulfed and it had just spread to her pareteneal (sp) wall.
She has been cancer-free for 6 years.
She's also very pissed because her scar isn't straight and she can no longer wear a bikini! She's a great-looking 62 year old.
We all know when there is something wrong with ourselves. Making a list of symptoms and a list of questions each year to take into the Doc is one way to remember what to ask. If the symptoms are on-going, don't take "normal" for an answer.
I'm 47 and have been asking for bone density testing since I was 40. "We don't give that test until you are post-menopausal". My current doc said "OK". My bone density is -.75. Worth being concerned about as it is low. But in an area that calcium supplements and weight-bearing exercise will help.
Remember - it's your life, not the doc's.

Ah, what time is it?
Actually, I have been labeled as a Sexual Intellectual by my ex-husband. That means a Fking Know-It-All.
Same ex- (I've had 3) also said I "... have the need to be right all of the time". I told him it was "... because I usually am!" That one pissed him off.
I have a good seat-o-the-pants education, and a sharp mind. The more I learn, the more I have become willing to admit "I don't know"; the older I get my mind and rememberer betray me, so I have to admit "I'm wrong". My current spousal unit likes to point these things out to me. Of course I have the same rights as he has.
Dead wrong?
Well, I haven't killed anyone that I can recall (remember my rememberer don't always work so well), and I'm not dead, yet.
What have I done right?
I left WTS. I raised a lot of hell that I needed to get out of my system, then I got clean and sober. I've cleaned up my past as best as I am able (still a couple items to deal with). I try to smile (not easy with chronic pain), be friendly to friends, acquaintances, and strangers. And work at not living up to anyone's expectations - even mine. Not easy, but worthwhile.

how much harm did you cause to the people in your congregation?
everybody complains how the witnesses did this and that and in the process caused so much harm.
but what you don't say is how much pain you caused others while you were in.
One of the things I am please about: I never had a bible (book) study! I'm NOT a good sales person. I guess that because as a teen and young adult I wasn't fully convinced, so I wasn't convincing. So in that respect I did NO harm because I didn't drag anyone in behind me.

i had a discussion recently with someone who is leaving the jws.
i told them this story about huck finn.
huck's slave, jim, uses a hairball to tell the future.
Now I know that the problem is at the WTS: Hairballs!
Maybe some PetroMalt?

if you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things?
.all evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years?
as a young person you will never fulfill any career that this system offers.
I was born JW 1957 so i was 13 in 1969 i remember the article and the:"will U B alive in ' 75 hysteria".My dad was an elder and an "ass-whole"They had insituted the 6 month max. study's for new recruits. The 'Truth' book with the 1914 generation profitcy was selling like hotcakes.
Start of puberty with all it's fallout in 6 months i was to be stricken with brutal unrelenting ulcerative colitis for the next 28 years.
Never never ever imagined in my worst nightmare i would see 2004 in 'this old system'.
For all you new recruits i stand as a witness of the watchtower's lies.
Danny, my dear, you're just a little younger than I am - born 11/56. AND I remember this very well. Thanx Elsewhere for the reminder.
I was far more successful than I was supposed to be - being raised to be a housewife and all. I have an interesting and well paying career in the computer industry - even as a H.S. pull-out!
