I've bought and sold. I've had only one mildly negative experience on both. Most have been good experiences. One, 1 of 3 lamps received was broken and all 3 special bulbs broken. The seller sent us a check for the value of the broken bulbs. The lampshade was unreplaceable, but... but I say! We already had one and only needed 3. Win/win.
Make sure you set up a PayPal account. You don't have to accept credit cards. If you don't accept credit cards your account is free. If you choose to accept credit cards you are charged 2.9% + 30cents per payment received.
Yes, make sure of who you buy from and/or who you sell too. If you are buying look very very closely at the pictures for defects. Ask the seller any questions before bidding.
Shipping can include a couple dollars for packaging costs. I tend to set a flat but reasonable rate as I put a lot of effort into preparing the shipment. Weigh the item with it's packaging before setting your shipping price online so you don't get burned. It's amazing how heavy things can get once packaged.
It's a lot of fun, and can be addictive!
Good luck.

I am a milieage victim!
by free2beme ini would love to have a vehicle that got 30 miles or more to the gallon.
unfortunetly i have to toe things, like a boat, and that requires a truck.
so i purchased a dodge truck, with a deisel engine, and i get a thrill out of 14-16 mpg.

We drive a 1995 Nissan pickup. 5 speed. It has never gotten below 18mpg city! I've gotten 23 out of it. It handles most of our hauling needs - minimal. So I feel really good about using it.
I've looked hard at the hybrids. I agree, too expensive. Yet, $$$ need to be spent to purchase and further alternative fuels.
I've also looked at the diesel beetle. A friend of ours bought one and gets 52mpg! Convert to biodiesel, and you've got an efficient, reduced fossil-fuel vehicle. Now... I'd love to see a similarly small vehicle with a small bio-fuel engine as a hybrid! Triple goodness! Make it a convertable and... well... sold.
Note: Bio-diesel has a % of fossil diesel in it. Bio-fuel, on the otherhand, is usually 100% veg oil. And the extractives used to make vegetable oil are damaging to rubber and plastic parts. In cold country, a fuel pre-heater is necessary for biodiesel to liquify it and bring it up to a combustable temp.

Did you drink to get over being a Witness?
by free2beme inwhen i first left the witnesses, i had some times of being really pissed at all the wasted time and the way the people acted.
i remember one time, my spouse and i decided to just get ripped.
we did and as we did, we laughed and even cried at times over the issues.

I grew up in a fairly normal (for JW"s) home with adoptive parents who were very normal drinkers - my mom would buy a nice bottle of wine, enjoy a glass or two, and finally throw it out 3 weeks later cuz it went bad! My dad might have a 6-pk a month.
I developed alcoholism. I've since traced it back 5 generations on my birth-mother's side.
However, it was leaving the witnesses with my "good JW" alcoholic husband that my own disease took hold. When we divorced - I looked at the witnesses again! I did NOT like what I saw, and decided "no way" was I ever going to go back. So I got bad. I wasn't a good girl any longer. Alcohol, sex, some drugs, and lots of raising hell! It was the 80's afterall, and Disco was still king. I did it in SPITE of the witnesses. Sick logic, eh? Well, I was sick.
My JW upbringing kept me from getting help with my alcoholism for several years. When I attended my first meeting - on a Sunday evening, in the basement of a - GASP! - Baptist Church, I had a difficult time even touching the doors, let alone opening them and going in. I was going to be struck dead by that act!
Well, I am here to tell you that nothing of the sort happened! It was still another 3 years before I could get and STAY sober, and it has been an incredible learning experience, and even a recovery experience from JWism!

PROOF OF REBIRTH?
by Dansk inrebirth, as opposed to reincarnation, is a fascinating topic and the following two stories have been taken from the tibetan book of living and dying by sogyal rinpoche (available from amazon books).
the second story, that of a child, came to the attention of the dalai lama and he sent a special representative to interview her and verify the story.
there have been many other rebirth stories published and the subject holds a special fascination for me.

It's hard to control people when they know the truth.
And "the truth" is not always knowable, nor quantifiable, etc. Nice statement Arcadian. I agree Jesus taught rebirth. He was raised Essene, as were his parents. THAT is where he dissappeared for those years, to be taught by them.
In spite of all the tampering done to the bible, and the crap that isn't relevent in general, there are snippits of truth there. The energy of the universe is explained, simply: God "Said" "Let there be light" = "god" is sound energy. Jesus said "I am the light and the way". Jesus being is light energy. Jesus being is responsible for the earth and it's inhabitants - a relay of sorts for the universes' energies.
But, alas, I am off-topic.
To know about our past is to begin to understand our present, and have a clue as to our future. Not just in this life, but in past lives/future lives.
Dansk, I'm reading a book that really ties into this ... and I just realized it last night.
"The Temple of my Familiar" by Alice Walker, who wrote "The Colour Purple". It even refers to characters from that book, and one character is a decendant.
It is several people who are interconnected and dont really know it ... yet. Each is finding out who they are, now, in this life, or teaching another. Some already know who they are, and who they have been. One know's pretty much every life she has ever lived! She manifests this by her ever mercurial personality - AND photographs!
It's a facinating book. I hope there aren't too many "americanisms" in it for an Englishman.
