I remember reading intellegence is more to do with good blood circulation around the brain and not brain size. They have studied some very intelligent people and found there brains no bigger than anyone elses. But they did have good blood circulation.Barry

What has the brain size of a undernourished person got to do with comparing the brain size of a man and a women that have never undernourished arent we talking about two different things here? Anyway at the church I go to they have a women Elder and everything is ok so I think the WT should appoint a few female elders there may be an improvement. Barry
i used the following quote from mark 9:38-40 in another thread, but thought it might be worthy to have people comment about it in its own thread: .
"john said to him: "teacher, we saw a certain man expeling demons by the use of your name and we tried to prevent him, because he was not accompanying us.
but jesus said: "do not try to prevent him, for there is no one that will do a powerful work on the basis of my name that will quickly be able to revile me, for he that is not against us is for us.
Youre a Prophet Farkel. The Study at the SDA Church is on this very subject. For those who dont know its much like the WT study but we separate into small groups so people can have more input into the study.
The take the SDAs have on this one is as follows from the frist paragraph.
John 10;16
However committed we should be to our message. we mustn,t read more into it than there is such as the belief that we alone as Seventh Day Adventists are saved. That view has not , nor has ever been the official position of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. We recognize those agencies that lift up Christ before men as a part of the divine plan for evangelization of the world, and we hold in high esteem Christian men and women in other communions who are engage in winning souls to Christ.
One of the Questions we are going to Discuss is 'Imagine that you are given the pulpit in another Church; it wil be your only opportunity to preach there . What would say, what wouldnt you say, and why?
So far so good but there is a darker side in this lesson the SDAs are trying to say also that they should push there distinctive doctrines. Soul sleep, Sabbath, Investigative Judgement Well Ill be there today to give them my take on things because some of there so called extinct sorry dinstinct doctrines sound like arrogance to me. Barry
as i sit here eat my favorite cereal for breakfast, i remember a time when it used to offend me to eat lucky charms.
.
anyone else have an experience of things you used to "offend" you??
Gday allymom,
Im in Australia and Sanitarium is big here probably has about 30% of the market. I dont know about the brands you mention but weet bix, puffed wheat, granola are all Sanitarium. Actually weet bix would be a great diabetic cereal it has very low sugar content. I just looked in our pantry we only have weet bix there now all the other 6 boxes are kelloggs. Sanitarium also make products for McDonalds here in Australia.
I have an Adventist mag called the Record which has Sanitarium products advertized nutmeat, savoury lentils, nutolene all made by sanitarium. Actually at least once a year instead of a sermon someone comes from the company to give us samples of a new breakfast cereal or some new product and a talk about the company.
Valis yes I saw that movie ' the road to wellville ' old Kellogg had some wacky idears. Barry

The Sanitarium health food company that makes many breakfast cereals is owned by the Adventist church and Nabisco is owned by the Catholic church. My Catholic wife always askes me to buy Nabiso cereals. I always buy Sanitarium or Kelloggs out of habit I guess. Kellogg started the SDA health food company but then had a falling out with the church and started his own company back in the early 1900s.
Dont tell the loyal JW about these connections, what would they have for breakfast?. Barry.
ouch !.
things seem to be going really pear shaped and picking up steam:.
pitiful job growth in july, a sagging stock market and now this ... what has gone wrong with the us economy?
Everything will be OK the J curve is kicking in and the deficit will look much worse for a while and then there will be an improvement. Thats what the economists would tell us anyway.
actually they, the sdas, dont do either what they do is to 'drop membership' as they now call it.
it was beleived in the past disfellowshiping had negative sentiment and so they changed the name, of course they have never shunned.
i sometimes have a look on a website called former adventist fellowship and being an adventist who is in the gospel side of the church and opposed to traditional cultic adventism i agree with a lot of their material.
There you are WT Society if you are reading this you are down 4-0. Surely you dont want to be upstaged by a church of babylon the great by the much more reasonable way they treat those who may dissagree with them.
We Christians have chosen to follow one who went out of his way to encourage, comfort and assist those whom others despised. Those who did the despising in the time of Jesus often felt ethically compelled to do so. They were mistaken. Let's walk is the footsteps of Jesus.
our bill is 150 dollars a week for groceries?.
how much do you all pay?.
it used to be 100, but since the kids are getting bigger they are eating alot more...lol
two adults and two kids and it costs about $150 a week Australian and we dont budget on what we spend we allways get whatever we want, but that doesnt include when we eat out about 3 times a week.barry

This thread is titled 'Request to drop membership'
Posted on Monday June 2004 My husband wrote a letter a few weeks ago to the SDA church he had his last membership at. He got a response letter today, so I thought I,d share it with you all.
Dear xxxxxxxx
At the xxxxxxx Church business meeting this past week, it was voted to drop youre name from membership at the xxxxxx Adventist Church, at youre request.
Though we regret that you have made this decision , we want to assure you that we respect your wishes and believe that our gracious God will lead you and bless you abundantly. We rejoice in the same gospel of grace, and look forward to meeting you in heaven one day, with warm christian greetings.
xxxxxxxxx
Senior Pastor.
I thought it was quite a decent letter as in my experiance with the SDAs and also the Baptists just ignore such requests to drop membership and the person doesnt know whether his or her wishes have been implemented.
