  I would like to recommend Spectrum magazine as an up to date view of Adventism. Spectrum is approved by the General Conference of SDAs and has articals on a wide range of subjects and range of idears in the Church. On this site will be progressive idears on Homosexuallity, women as pastors, evolution v creation debate called the faith creation conference that the church has held over the last few years.

  The site is http://www.spectrummagazine.org/church/ss/041206ford.html Here is Dr Des Ford commenting on the lesson which is like the WT study. Dr Des Ford is mentioned in Ray Franz book Crisis of Concience. Proof that we still love even our apostates.

  You could look up 'Good News Unlimited' or Dr Desmond Ford,s site.

  Doug Batchelor is a prominent SDA but I couldnt support his theology.

  These can be all be looked up on the net butr Im not haveing much with links right now.

  Des Ford is still an member of the church as was Robert Brinsmead up until he joined the Lutherins. The fact is we even love our apostates.

  Their are different versions of SDAism all in the same church.

  Conservative Adventism. Has a catholic theology and has cultic doctrines

  Evangelical Adventism. Beleive the Protestant doctrine of ' righteousness by faith' some still have some watered down cultic beleifs others reject the cultic beleifs altogether.

  Liberal Adventists. Christians from all churches have there liberals they are just liberal.

  The real differences between the JWs and the SDAs is that different beleifs and groups in the JWs just wouldnt be tollerated. The control the JWs have of there members is unthinkable in the SDAs or other churches.

  The SDAs are really quite progressive they have women pastors, have developed their understanding of homosexuals and in a church not far from here we have a member who had a sex change to a women.

  SDAs dont disfellowship or mark or shun. Disfellowshipping was voted out at the general conference in 2000.

  Ok SDAs do have there nuts more than most one minister once said an SDA couldnt be a policeman but I still dont know why. Some dont beleive they should go to the doctor but when they get sick they allways do.

  Im an SDA and I would consider myself in the evangelical group without cultic doctrine.I do have my dissagreements with the church and voice my opinions very clearly at church meetings with no risk of punishment a JW might suffer. I ususally begin by making clear that what I am saying is against church policyand then giving my opinion. In fact a few years ago we had a JW study family join our church they went around all the churches and found they had the most freedom in discussion in the SDAs than any other church.

  I dont beleive the SDAs are any better than most mainline churches and if I wasnt an SDA would have no problem in the Anglican or some other church.

  imagine trying to prove to someone that firmly believes in leprechauns that they simply don't exist.

  where do you start?

  an excellent saying i have heard is "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

  The FDS is taken from a story jesus told. The story about the rich man and lazaras is also a story jesus told. The former is taken by the WT to mean something more than just a story but the later is taken by the WT to be a story only.

  New Light on Higher Education

  my son made a point to tell me that they had what was to him a very interesting, different talk on the service meeting this week.

  the presiding overseer gave a talk on the society's changed view of getting a college education.. he used the scripture which admonishes the reader to "acquire a heart of wisdom" and applied it to getting a 4 year college education for the sake of being able to support oneself at double the rate of pay with one's degree upon graduation.

  this of course is only for the purpose of being able to then pioneer, only having to work a few days a week, thereby having the time for the field ministry.. such an annoying change - finally!

  The SDAs promote education for their members and in fact in the US SDAs have twice the % of college degrees as the general population.

  This of course causes problems in the church with people beleiving in science such as the theory of evolution while the church beleives in seven days six thousand years. One delegate in the recent faith science conference held by the church is recorded as saying 'We will give them seven days and six thousand years and they will have to fight for every second extra'. Another delegate has said ' While god has been a physist for 15 billion years he has only been a theologin for 6 thousand years.

  The moral of the story is the WT society is saving itself a lot of grief by not promoting higher education.

  Just had my first ever study with a JW

  i wanted to ask questions about the organisation, but he looked me in the eye & ignored my questions to pursue his agenda.. he listed about 15 topics for us to study, to prove only jws are based on 1st century christianity.

  i got him to agree not to attack other religions, (proving them false does not prove jws true) he agreed with this but then went on to criticise other religions!

  next week i'll be firmer on this point!.

  Gday Jaffa,

  I remember you saying you are SDA or exSDA. Im an SDA. There are some articals on this site you could use from where the JWs quote SDA writers such as George McCready Price, Robert Gentry and Edwin Theile and are often quoted out of context.

  You could use the material here by Alanf and others and you JW teacher wouldnt suspect you getting information from any apostate site but would haveing a hard time answering baggage you have from being an SDA.

  You started with youre teacher the best and ony way with the gospel.

  I beleive it is a teaching against intollerance.

  The true church is all those who trust in the merits of christ, and is not any single denomination.

  Alternative Military Service & other denominations?

  does anyone know if other christian denominations recommend a form of alternative military service as a preferred appraoch to issue of war/military service?

  i thought i remember reading that adventists and others do this.

  Among SDAs alternative military service would be a minority position.

  SDAs have different positions depending on their concience it includes alternative military service, non combat roles in the military and full combat roles in the military.

  The church gives support to all positions and they have their chaplins in the forces. The head of chaplins in the US navy is an SDA, cant think of his name right but I could look it up.
