The truth is not pecular to the JWs it is used in the SDAs and some other churches. It is true that most of the expressions here are unique to JWs. Barry

Are "Born-Again Christians" a Cult?
by booker-t ini know alot of people might be offended by this question but i think it is a good question to ask.
born-agains are always pointing the cult finger at jw's, mormons, moonies, 7-day adventists, oneness pentacostals, armstrong, etc; but could they themselves be a cult?
as the old saying goes "it takes one to know one"

All christians are born again but there is some who call themselves born again who beleive they are born again when they receive the holy spirit and speak in toungs . They use what is reffered to as a gift in scripture to be a requirement for salvation. This is where they err and this is the group that is cultic because of its departure from the fundamentals of the christian religion reguarding salvation and also there exclusivity.

How do JW know they have the Truth?
by Noggin inbreif background: i am an ex mormon.
that church preaches that through powerful feelings sent by god, one can know the truth of the book of mormon.
highly reliable, right?

The mormons do make a big thing about feelings. Unless you study with them you may not know whereas with the JWs its more about how doctrine is incorrect in the churches and we are right .

What are your reasons for not joining another religion?
by MARTINLEYSHON ini am going to start this debate of by saying that those of us who were raised in the so called truth, and i being one of them, can only come to terms with our past by accepting that our parents infected our minds like a virus infects a computer.
we wouldn't categorise children according to their parents' political stance, since they are too young to make up their minds about such matters.
but they (jw) segregate them from the world.

Is dedication practiced in the JW religion
by barry in.
for those of us that have had limited access to jw religion is dedication practiced.. in churches i have been involved in that dont practice infant baptisim it is replaced by dedication where the parents join with the minister at the front of the church and a prayer is offered to god on behalf of the child.. i just wondered if there is anything similar in the jws

Thanks people for that during my short stint with the witnesses i never saw it a at the kingdom hall and i just wasnt sure .The scriptural reason used is when Samuel was dedicated to the lord and is probably in some way a replacement of infant baptism.
Just dont say that to the Baptists or the Adventists they may be offended.

non-denom bible study groups
by TheListener inis there any such thing as a church or group that gathers together to study the bible and share information without ramming it down everyone's throad and trying to disfellowship anyone who doesn't agree?.
i'd love to eventually attend a bible study group where an exchange of ideas can be had without everyone getting offended or defensive.
sort of like here, but different.

i dont beleive one has to go to a non denominational church to freely discuss bible topics. Im an SDA and am a little reluctant to promote my own church too much here because I know there are many good churches out there also some SDA doctrine promoted by the right wing of adventism is way off the mark as far as the Protestant Gospel of Righteousness by faith is concerned. The Adventist doctrine of the investigative judgement is a very bad doctrine which in its purest form gives the beleiver no assurance of salvation but only a works based religion.
Of course not all SDAs go along with such perfectionistic type religion.
On the other hand SDAs have a very strong beleife in th priesthood of all beleivers and this means they take personal bible study and bible discussion very seriously.
A few years ago we had a family who had been studying with the witnesses leave and they went around to all the churches in the town where I lived at the time. This family found they could freely discuss the bible at the SDAs more than in any other denomionation. The family went to the Anglicans, baptist Uniting and they eventually became SDAs.
The meeting I would recommend at the SDAs is the sabbath school held before the divine service its something like the watchtower study except in my experiance as a third generation SDA at times there is no holds barred as to where a discussion may lead.
Someone said earlier they dont think that trinitarianism and arianism could co exist well it does in the SDA church. When barnhouse and martin studied SDAism they nearly gave the denomination cult status from the beginning because they went to the General Conferance with documents with the church logo supporting both the trinity and Arinaism. A whole suitecase full.
Dont let anyone tell you that you must beleive someting because a smart man changes his mind sometimes, but a fool never.
These thoughts are from my own experiance and many times i have enjoyed the discussion and fellowship of christians of other denominations. Barry
