The confessional presently practiced in the catholic church comes from the monastries of the 6th century although in the early church sins were confessed to a priest or bishop for very grevous sins.

The early church, confession, and the JWs
by greendawn inin the early christian church they had the institution of confession which they probably took over from the jews, eg people went to john the baptist to confess their sins and he would baptise them in confirmation of their repentence.
and in the book of didachi which was written very early, around 70ad and gives us a good picture of how the church worked then: .
"confess your sins in church, and do not go up to your prayer with an evil conscience.

SO, What happened to : "the generation will not pass away" idea ???????
by The_Replacement inokay, growing up a jw in the 70's 80's and early 90's, all we heard about was how the generation of 1914 will not pass away,(much like witnesses in the 60's and early 70's all heard about 1975) (what a great parallel) conventions, watchtower articles, public talks, endless studies and of course every issue of the awake magazine had it on the inside cover, it was everywhere, brothers, sisters and elders were absolutely sure about this, the society constantly mentioned it in our kingdom ministry (service), it was everywhere.
then with the change in november 1995, it just kinda disappeared and became unimportant.. does the society even mention "this generation will not pass away" anymore ?????.
seems to me, that the past 10 years, it has hardly been mentioned anywhere anymore.. what do you think ??

I remember reading about the generation after1844 will not pass away I cant give a refference for it but goes to show the witnesses pinched it from the SDAs. these days the generation thing in the SDAs would be just a sick joke.

Good answer Drew youre a champion . And keep up the good work. The only problem is they choose who will comment and with the use of the mike can screen out anyone they consider is apostate. Most bible studies I go to are in a smaller group with no mike and it is accepted that you can speak up and comment at any time which gives even more freedom.

Arminianism
by TheListener inwhat are the similarities and differences between arminiansim and jw's?.
one key similarity i've found is that in arminianism a certain few are chosen by god for salvation.
seems similar to the 144,000 doctrine.

Do you know of any "apostate" ex-jws that became "BAC's" that quit bac's?
by booker-t ini remember when i left jw's and started going to born-again christians(bac's) churches my "atheist" father laughed at me and told me that i would eventually leave bac's because like j.f.
rutherford said "religion is a snare and racket".
he said bac's and jws are just on an endless treadmill motivated by "fear" and not love for god into going to church/kh.

I beleive the last days began in AD31 along with many christians and the end could have come at any time since then.
The beleif we can change days into years and pick and choose when the end will be is called the historisist approach. The problem with this approach is the various texts are interpreted as to be only relevant to the present day and the original fullfilment is completely ignored.
The born again movement has hijacked the beleif of all christians that they are born again and some born agains beleive they are the only ones born again because they speak in tongues . thus they beleive they are saved by works.

Vegetarianism
by rezamichael inwhy aren't witnesses vegetarians?
it's well known that adam and eve were vegetarian.
there was only ever a concession given by god to allow meat eating after the flood as there was no vegetation so it was forced and rather a temporary fix up rather than a new permanent diet.

SDAs promote vegetarianism and studies have found they have longer and more healtfull lives into old age. Recently I read an artical about how 'health reform' [thats what SDAs call it]was working too well and sending thechurch broke because many ministers were living well into there nineties and the church was haveing too pay their retirement fund an expence not factored in.
That being said more than 50% are not vegetarian and as a result suffer all the ailements of the general community.

Gday Min, I think a big factor in the way we think is the people around us because we a social animals we try to fit in. This is how we have a community and not anarcky. Because youre mom probably mostly mixes with other JWs those idears get reinforced. The only way is to get her away the JW influence for a while. Barry

Why didn't Hitler jail other pacifist religions?
by jwfacts inthe watchtower still proudly highlights that they were the only religion sent to concentration camps, due to their neutral war stance.
however there are many other religions that are neutral or pacificts and so must have disobeyed hitlers request for them to join his ss.
so what is the real reason jws were put into concentration camps?
-

Hitler jailed some Adventists and Catholics for pacifism. In fact the Adventist Church split because of the war in Germany the part of the Adventists that wouldnt take part in the war became The SDA reform movement and they are still in existance today all over the world.

The massai tribes in Africa have a very high intake of cholesterol they drink the blood of their animals and drink lots of milk yet their blood cholesterol is very low. Some people beleive it is because of their stress free life.
I had my cholesterol taken it was only 2.9
