Input from Christians requested on JWs not partaking
by Brigid inthis is a new concept for me that i keep running into with all of the discussion regarding the memorial: the fact that the jehovah's witnesses make a yearly ritual (their only ritual) of not partaking of the symbolic flesh of christ.
can any christians comment on the importance in the christian faith of partaking in this?
and why, would jw's feel the need to build up this rite to have people "pass" it up.

You take someone new to the memorial, and they make fun of it.
by free2beme ini remember one year i was in my late teens and living away from home and needed a ride to the memorial.
i was invited to go with a couple from the hall and on the way they picked up a bible study they invited, this bible study ended up being a person i worked with who i knew was studying.
we did the memorial thing, and dropped off the study and went home.

i dont think outsiders would think it wacky they may not agree with the 144000 bit and they may agree with most of the rest of the memorial.Imagine if you were to go to an SDA memorial service everyone can partake but in the SDA tradition there is also the ordinance of humility or footwashing. Imaginme haveing to wash someones feet. Also some churches have the ordinance of humility at the beginning and some have it at the end of th eservice. Some people are very dogmatic on weather it should be at the beginning or the end.

The only memorial l attended was with my pastor and at the end he also thought it was odd the way the elder aput out the position only the 144000 should be partakers of the elements.I rember that clearly was his concern.

Going to Memorial Service for the first time.....what should we expect?
by whyizit inwe spent 6 months "studying" with a jw couple.
they claimed the wts had all the answers, but they actually couldn't answer any of our questions.
(we are devoted born-again bible-believing christians.).

Gday Whyisit, When i went to a memorial I was also invited by a JW friend and I also asked my pastor to come along. He said yes after a few days. It actually went very well as the town where I lived is only small so everyone knows everyone else quite well. My ppastor got on well with the elders we were the last ones to leave.Barry

I couldnt understand most of it partly the accent i think.
From what i did understand and read here the elder seemed to be talking down to you i dont beleive that is a good tactic on there part with the sort of information out there internet and in this day and age they are just not with it. I once went to the memorial because I was invited by a good JW friend. I also asked my minister to come along if he wanted. What I didnt do was ask for his permission to attend. He dicided to come along with me when he thought about it.
I one listened to some Catholic nuns saying that dought is a big factor in there own minds and what about us who are less religious than some of these saints.
Also I am from a Church that prides itself on promoting higher education but that doesnt beleive they dont have some kooky beleifs too a doctrine similar to 1914 which is the doctrine of 1844 I must write about it here soon and all the implications it has.

Council of Nicaea / Arius / Constantine and the Bible
by MissBehave ini've been reading up on the constantine's involvement in the compilation of the bible at the council of nicaea.
as well as the ousting of arius because of his "controversial" beliefs.
it's been many years since i've read any watchtower literature...anyone know what the jw's believe / teach / preach regarding this subject.

The real issue at Nicea was not the Arian contravercy although Arias provided a catalist in the debaite . Monacanism was also at issue at Nicea but it also was only a catalist in the debate. Monarchism is the beleif that the trinity exists as father son and holy spirit much the same as I as a man am also a father and also and other role I may have in society.
The debate at Nicea was between the Niceans and the Oregonists. The oregonists beleived God to be at different levels and it seemed to the niceans that they were teaching Arianism while the Niceans less clearly defined the threeness of god and so to the Oregonists seemed to be teaching Monarchism.
I have a little book called "Christian Thought ' by Tony Lane. Barry

Gday JW facts,
I think i know what youre saying when I went to school I was a Seventh Day Adventist I mean its such a long name and every year the school teacher would take down details including religion why couldnt it be just a small name like catholic. I would often have to repeat Seventh Day Adventist because the teacher would often say "whats that".I would often be sitting at the back of the classroom the other SDA in my class would allways be smarter and be sitting at the front. Dumb Me.
We actually thought the JW kids were very cool while we had scripture classes one period per week the JW kids were out in the playground.
Because we were SDAs and there wasnt a resident minister in the town I lived there was no scripture for SDAs so we had to go to scripture classes of other denominations . I went to the Anglican Prespetarian or Baptist with my friends. I can remember one other Adventist girl wasnt happy with the Anglican minister and she got stuck into him because he often used the word flamin not in relation to hell but that upset her and so she went to the Baptist classes where the minister there promoted evolution and so she was upset about that. Her dad I beleive was a Shepherds Rod SDA at one time and the fanatisism hadnt conpletly worn off. Barry
