My exwife is going to this church at present but then she has been into more churches than I've had roast dinners. The WWCOG the Adventists and the Witnesses all had common roots. Its interesting that the WWCOG had footwashing before communion like the Adventists and the WWCOD has annual communion service like the witnesses. The WWCOG also has a ban of birthdays, christmas just as the witnesses doctrin dictates.

I inherited a 130 year old violin from my mum that was owned by my great grandfather. I am learning to play it with some success as my teacher says I could pass preliminary and first grade now. I have only 10 lessons under my belt so far but it is getting hard now. Its just a lot of practice and vibrato is hard to do with older fingers not filling to be flexible.
I just tried today to get back in here with my old ppassword which I thought wasn't working. I tried it in upper case and got back in after a few years. So lookout Im back. Barry

Why am I so special?
by Wayward Son inif we are to accept that intelligence plays no part in wether or not we become duped into a cult, then the same rule must apply to those who wake up and make an exit.. so why am i so special?
i had basically the same experiences as my family and i am the only one out.
i don't claim to be some towering intelect, but even if i were it shouldn't matter.

I don't know if it's true but I have heard that intelligent people are much more prone to brainwashing and so they are more likely to be influenced by a cult. You cant be brainwashed if you don't have a brain.

Gday Refiners Fire,
There is a large group within Adventism perfectionistic and legalistic. They follow Ellen White to the letter beleiving we will stand before God without a mediator in the last judgement. Of course this is a damnable herecy to anyone who has read the bible and knows the gospel. It is not held by most Adventists.
nice to see you all here once again as Ive been away and forgot my password but i just put th eletters in upper case and i got in. Anyway Its nice to be back. Barry

How do those who 'live forever' atone for their sins?????
by insearchoftruth inin theory......... a jw who survives as part of the gt, is restored to perfection during the 1000 years, and remains faithful, surviving through satan's last stand will be offered to drink from the fountain of life freely..

Leolaia, Thanks for that explanation of Romans 6 verse 7. I was brought up Adventist but the JW view of those who have died are freed from sin was one I had never heard of. I just thought I would clear that because you mention the Adventists in youre post.

In Australia voteing is compulsary but if you have a valid reason not to vote for religious grounds its just a matter of writing a letter to the authorities and a penalty for not voteing can be waived.

Defence of watchtower society Links
by reniaa ini thought long and hard before making this thread, that many will not agree with it but i think there needs to be balance and people to realise there are alternate viewpoints out there on many of these subjects, the ones that are most spoke about on this forum.
i was recently sent a full message containing mary's book and these links give the rebuttal to many of her points.
those that are still open-minded enough feel free to look over them even if in the end you still don't agree at least you have heard both the defence as well as the attack as they are on the internet.

Reniaa, I would like to make a few comments.
The child abuse issue is an issue all churches have had to deal with no exception. I beleive the problem with the WT cult is they have protected child abusers in their zeal to protect their religion.
In the issue of the cross the WT beleives it is so important it is one of the points of doctrine right in the baptisimal statement. I cant think of any church that is so petty.
With the issue of smoking other churches have sdvised their members of the dangers of this habit decades before the WT
The catholic church has held the primary doctrins of the christian faith for the last 2000 years but the doctrine of salvation arose at the reformation. Martin luther said the doctrine of salvation was the doctrine all other doctrine should be judged on.
You see Confession is not necessary, praying for the dead is not necessary, Pergatory is not necessary, Extreme unction is not necessary because of the protestant doctrine of salvation. Protestants beleive the christian is declaired right with God but the Catholic beleives he has to be made right.
In other words the Catholic has to reach perfection.
So the issue is not the cross or the triune God but the doctrine of salvation that the roman church rejected.
