13A.N.Z.A.C. Day 25th APRIL
by zeb inthe 25th april is the day australia and new zealand remember their war dead.. on the 25th april 1915 troops from many nations including australian and new zealanders landed on the shores of turkey.
the anzac forces at a place called gallipoli or galliboli by the turkish people.. the concept was to land move inland attack constantinople and there by force turkey out of the war (1914-1918) and bring it too a swift end.
the whole operation was a monumental stuff up with the anzacs being landed in the wrong place up against steep cliffs.

it's great to hear michael portillo's initial reaction ("whaaat!
") and then watch him and andrew neil belly-laugh at diane abbott's comments at the end of the clip.. perhaps she'd been at the blue nun xd.

Languages, Dialects, Accents
by LoveUniHateExams injust though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.
first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.
red, arrow, break.

Just woke up turn TV on to hear yet another nut case with a gun.
by Still Totally ADD infirst they said 20 dead with 100 injured.
now i just heard 50 dead and 200 injured.
whatever it is it just another nut case who was able to get a high power gun to kill people.

If more guns in the hands of civilians resulted in the taking out of this madman I would support more guns but that just didn't happen did it.
I have heard this gunman was a recent convert to Islam maybe Islam should be banned.

Jayden, I believe Sara only got 200 primary votes to get into the Senate the majority of her votes were preference votes. We don't have first past the post and maybe we should change that.
