The New Testament in Plain English and John 1:1

the new testament in plain english (published, 2003) translates john 1:1c as: "the word was god.

" however, a footnote on this verse says: "or, deity, divine (which is actually a better translation, because the greek definite article is not present before this greek word).

Watchtower admits Bible Teaches Trinity & hellfire!

the wathtower admits that by reading the bible alone without their help, people will believe in the trinity, hellfire, visible return of christ, heavenly hope for all christians etc etc.. here's the quote:.

"from time to time, there have arisen from among the ranks of jehovah's people those, who, like the original satan, have adopted an independent, faultfinding attitude... they say that it is sufficient to read the bible exclusively, either alone or in small groups at home.

but, strangely, through such 'bible reading,' they have reverted right back to the apostate doctrines that commentaries by christendom's clergy were teaching 100 years ago..." (watchtower, aug. 15, 1981, p. 29).. why would people revert back to christendoms doctrines unless the bible actually teaches them!.

That quote is almost exactly what Charles Taze Russell said almost 100 year before.

He believed that the bible could not be understood from the 2nd century (or so) on until He was given understanding that no other man had.

This is very similar to what the WTS believes today.

The funny part is, they can't seem to figure out WHAT they believe.

Just consider all the doctrinal changes the WTS has been through in the last 100 years. (or 16 years for that matter)

It's very clear that none of them have been given special understanding above that of the common man reading the bible.

EXCLUSIVE NEW LIGHT! How to calculate the length of the overlapping generations - SCRIPTURALLY!

ok, so the one scripture that supports the "overlapping generations" doctrine is the one about joseph having brothers, right?.

well, then, logically, if that scripture buttresses the glorious new light - and we know how long that "generation" was - we should be able to calculate the date for armageddon, no?.

allowing for a maximum period starting with the year of the birth of the eldest brother (reuben if i'm not mistaken), and ending with the year of the death of the youngest (benjamin, correct?

I'm not sure it matters.

This is how I think it will work in the end.

One person, born in 1914 [WTS "babies born at the start of WW1"] and latter becomes part of the 144,000 meets a baby one day before he dies at the age of 101.

That baby grows up and becomes part of the 144,000 and then lives to be 101.

The WTS bought themselves more than 100 years with the "new light".

Copyright Issues

one of the points ray franz brought out in both his books is that most of the early literature is out of print and simply unavailable to jehovah's witnesses (or anyone else) today.. would there be any copyright issues involved in setting up a website, or an addition to this website (just a scenario) with a database of all this old leterature?

are writings from 100 years ago considered public domain now?.

i realize it would be a massive undertaking but with so many people contributing literature from their own collections.... .

I just downloaded From Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained and read chapter 30 "What must you do to regain paradise"

The WTS has people jumping through all kinds of hoops. Study, obey...you must know enough about the bible to explain it to others,

You must meet with other people that have the same knowledge and faith...etc

But in Acts 16:30 the jailer ask "What must I do to be saved?" Paul and Silas answered him saying "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved...."

Why haven't more JWs noticed the WTS false prophecy?

i haven't found anything to show that they have, except in the reasoning book, they admit say this:.

"jehovah's witnesses do not claim to be inspired prophets.

they have made mistakes.

For years every Awake stated that it is "The Creator's Promise" the the end will come while some of the persons that saw the events of 1914 are still alive.

So that's not just claiming to be a prophet, that's claiming to be God's prophet.

In 1995 when the WTS dropped that teaching some left, most didn't.

Go figure.

Do JW Organization Mistakes Matter?

after reading what concerned jw has to say, i gather that for him, if the jw organization is currently making any mistakes, those mistakes do not matter and are not worth naming, not even one.

i am completely baffled by this and would like to understand why a person would take this position.

concerned jw, can you please explain why you take this position?

I questioned a JW at UCSB. He had a table and a lot of WTS lit.

I asked about the false generation teaching from 1952 through 1995 and all he could say was "don't worry about that".

He never even tried to give an answer.

or arrogant enough to say "you must accept everything I say even if I'm wrong" like the WTS does.

the wts claims that the length of babylons king nebuchadnezzars suppressed state symbolised the suppressed state of gods kingdom.

each day of the heathen kings lack of control represented a year of heathen supremacy.. .

since nebuchadnezzars experience was symbolic, it would have ended before the fulfilment started; unfortunately the hebrews scriptures do not specify that moment.

The Witnesses that you are talking to don't know.

All of these thought processes at one time were used by the WTS to prove 1874 as the date of the presents of Christ.

Ask them to explain that.

1914 was, at that time, to be the end of Armagedden.

The 1874 date, as the beginning of the presents of Christ, was taught all the way until 1929.

Ask them to explain that.

From 1952 until 1995 the WTS taught that some of the persons that were alive to see the events of 1914 would be alive when Armogedden started.

Ask them to explain that.

The Watchtower is a false prophet that demands it's followers believe those falsehoods or else be DFed and have their lives ruined.

Yes, you could see this as hate.

I think trying to get the truth out about how wrong the WTS is should be looked at as love.

Feeling a bit alienated

i notice mostly everyone at jwn was a "born-in".

i actually chose to become a witness.

i was born and raised jewish but by the time i was 15 i had lost interest in judaism and stopped practicing it.

Doing their job like DFing someone, ruining their life, for believing something different than what the WTS was teaching at the time when just a few years latter the WTS changes and joins the opinion of the DFed person.

And then never apologizing to the DFed one.

Yeah, that's doing their job well???!!!!

I didn't read Conserned JW's post but I know that as long as someone believes that the WTS is the F&DS choosen by Christ in 1919 then nothing else matters.

If the WTS is teaching something wrong, "don't worry, God will correct it time".

So this leaves the WTS free to be false prophets with no negative consequences.
