But the WTS said, at one time, that Jesus comunicates with the F&DS through the angels now that the holy spirit has been fired.
When and why was the Holy Spirit reinstated?
According to the teaching of J.F.Rutherford the Holy Spirit was no longer needed once Jesus Christ 'came to the temple of Jehovah God ' in 1918.
By his spirit, the holy spirit, Jehovah God guides or leads his people up to a certain time, and thus he did until the time when "the comforter" was taken away ... in 1918.
Preservation, 1932, pp. 193, 194.
...1918... in that year the Lord Jesus came to the temple of Jehovah God. The holy spirit that had been the guide of God's people, having performed its functions, was taken away... J.F. Rutherford, Salvation, 1939, pp. 216, 217.
In times past the holy spirit was the comforter and helper of God's people, and those brethren supposed to have the spirit of the Lord acted as teachers of the consecrated; but now, since the coming of Christ Jesus to the temple, Jehovah God and his great prophet, Christ Jesus, are the teachers... the faithful ones receive knowledge and understanding from the Word of God revealed to them through the Head of the temple organization.
J.F. Rutherford, Jehovah, 1934, p. 311. See further, The Watchtower, March 15, 1938, p. 89, ¶37: 1939 Yearbook of Jehovah's Witnesses, Daily Texts and Comments, October 6.
After Rutherford's death in 1942, N. H. Knorr, in the Watchtower of August 15, 1944 on page 252, "However, the holy spirit is not removed or taken away from the remnant." Since that time multiple publications of the Watchtower Society have reemphasize the one "holy spirit".
So that answers the first question, but what about the second question? Why was the Holy Spirit reinstated? If Christ 'came to the temple of Jehovah God " in 1918, which is still the teaching of the Watchtower Society, then what has changed? Was Rutherford wrong about there not being a need for the Holy Spirit after 1918?
5 Holy spirit still operates in very lofty ways. It guides and directs Jehovah's heavenly organization. (Ezekiel 1:20, 21) WT 1992 2/1
All along the way certain "elective elders" manifested themselves as opposers to the new divinely provided leadership. They failed to see that Jehovah's holy spirit or active force was working organizationally in bringing about a governmental transformation leading to a theocratic or God-directed New World society WT 1955 5/15
Servants in the congregations are not such because some man has selected them. It is not the circuit servant or the congregation committee that determines who will oversee the congregation of God. It is Jehovah's holy spirit that must operate to appoint them as overseers. WT 1957 6/15
At times there are heard from immature ones slighting remarks, careless talk or outright criticism of the Society's operations. Such is outright lack of respect for the means Jehovah is remarkably using to perform his will in this pre-Armageddon time. Truly the Society as directed by God's holy spirit merits our deepest respect and wholehearted obedience. WT 1960 7/15
Christianity as from God, the imparting of miraculous gifts of the spirit for the physical curing of the people ceased with the death of the apostles, but Jehovah's holy spirit as a helper for his people has continued down to this day. Those who have been associated for many years with the New World society of Jehovah's witnesses are well aware of the operation of this spirit of God, for of a truth it has been the stimulating and driving force behind their work. No man or body of men can be given credit for the unified preaching work of Jehovah's witnesses on a global scale in 179 lands and territories. No humans can be credited with the marvelous flow of Bible truths. Decisions regarding theocratic organization, the operating of the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead, the Kingdom Ministry School arrangement, the establishing and enlarging of printing plants in many parts of the world-all these things and many, many more have certainly not been accomplished solely through the thinking ability and foresight of human creatures. The great legal victories that have become so numerous and that have defended and legally established true worship in the earth are really Jehovah's victories. His spirit has directed all this work, including the singular stand of his people against entrenched blood transfusers. Surely without God's guiding spirit it would be impossible to breast the rushing tide of ridicule, scorn and unfavorable "advice" of sincere relatives and respected professionals. No, such an adamant stand for the sacredness of blood is not due to mere human reasoning and leadership. All praise and credit goes to Jehovah's guiding spirit. WT 1961 7/15
True shepherds recognize that during these last days, Jesus has appointed his faithful and discreet slave over all his belongings and that holy spirit has directed this slave in appointing elders for the shepherding of the sheep. (Matthew 24:3, 47; Acts 20:28) Hence, being theocratic involves having a deep respect for this slave, for the organizational arrangements that the slave has instituted, and for the elder arrangement within the congregation.-WT 1993 1/1
As in first century, certain members of slave class selected to be governing body, which, directed by holy spirit, makes appointments of overseers and ministerial servants.KM 1974 our kingdom ministry
The men of that governing body, like the apostles and older men in Jerusalem , have many years of experience in God's service. But they do not rely on human wisdom in making decisions. No, being governed theocratically, they follow the example of the early governing body in Jerusalem , whose decisions were based on God's Word and were made under the direction of holy spirit.-1989 live forever
So let us have faith that Jehovah will help us to view our trials properly and endure them. Scriptures may be brought to our attention by fellow believers or during Bible study. Events maneuvered through God's providence may help us to see what we should do. Angels may share in directing us, or we may receive guidance by holy spirit. (Watchtower; July 15, 1992; p. 21)
If this teaching was wrong, a teaching from one who claims to be directed by God *, what's to say the teachings of today are right? Was God furnishing Rutherford false 'meat in due season'?
