Is Sallvation a gift or by works? (An explination)

this is for the jw lurkers out there.

now, lets look at how the word salvation is used in the bible.

we see that the word gift is used when the bible describes how one obtains salvation, but the word earned is never used.

4 Now to one who works, his wages are not reckoned as a gift but as his due. 5 And to one who does not work but trusts him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness.

How can you be faithful yet not gullible or misled?

i hear all the time how leaders justify why people should buy into and follow their guesses...and the whole defense is if you don't you have no faith.. what protects a "faithful" person from becoming prey to a self-exalted leader and their guesses?

or are the faithful meant to be prey or something?.

1935 and the Insight of the Anointed

however, genuine anointed christians do not demand special attention.

they do not believe that their being of the anointed gives them special "insights," beyond what even some experienced members of the great crowd may have.

So there are now three classes according to the WTS.
The Anointed, the other sheep and the GB.
It just gets better and better.

I believe I am getting there

Not according to the May 1 2007 Watchtower.

Members of the FDS do not have any special "insights" and they don't have more "holy spirit" than the "other sheep" class. But they are under the direction of the GB. So I count three classes now. The "other sheep", the "FDS" and above all the GB.

So they would need to be inserted somewhere below the GB.

One needs a program to keep score.

At the time Jesus was talking to the Jews, the Jews were the only people on earth that had a relationship with God.

It was only later that Paul was sent to preach to the Gentiles.

But yet in John 10:16 And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my vioce. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.

So before Paul took the Gospel to the Gentiles, Jesus referred to them as "sheep". Not goats that would turn into sheep, but sheep.

In Romans 9 talking about Rebecca and her sons, Jacob and Esau, 11 before they were born and had done nothing either good or bad, ........she was told "The elder will serve the younger" as it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated".

14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means. 15 For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."

16 So it depends not upon man's will or exertion, but upon God's mercy.

Romans 8:29-30 For those whom he [God] foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified.

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him. John 6:44

Questioning Armageddon. How can wife hang onto the Bible? (If she wants to)

jehovah wiping out 99.99% of humanity, babies included, is a "problem" or "question" that i think can be very powerful to use with jw family.

especially when presented from a "i just really have a problem with this idea at a gut level" standpoint.. but i haven't used it with my wife (yet) because i see it as a slippery slope that leads to "jesus believed the whole flood story" so i guess we need to throw out the whole bible.

(which, btw, is the very slope i have gone down.

I am not defending the WTS. I think they are dead wrong on many things.

But, Romans 9:19 "who are you, a man, to answer back to God?" (please read the whole chapter)

Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. Without God there would be no life at all.

God is sovereign. If you don't think so you have not been regenerated, so what is the point?

God does not change to suit us, we need to change to suit God. (well, we don't change us, God changes us)

So now there are three classes? The GB that's getting "insights" from the 24 elders. The Anointed (with their heavenly hope) but no "insights" and the "other sheep" with their earthly hope? Boy, you really need a score card to keep track.

Law...written on their hearts

paul, in his discussion about god's judgment, contrasts those who were under law (jews) but failed to live up to it with those who were not under it (gentiles) but lived by its principles.

Genesis chapter 3 Man has known right from wrong ever since he eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Without that knowledge there would be no condemnation. Eating from the tree caused man to die because man no longer had the excuse of ignorance, thus condemning him. Even the man who has never heard of Jesus Christ stills knows right from wrong and can not claim ignorance.

working in retail management is a never ending adventure.

you never know what is lurking around the next corner.

such was the case about six months ago when my boss asked me to stay over on a sunday night to watch the store while a floor cleaning crew did a strip and wax.. now with my self being a former jehovah's witness, i already knew that a great deal of the jw's owned and operated their own floor cleaning buisnesses, and there was a good chance that the floor crew on that sunday night would more than likely be a jw operation.. when the guys first walked in, i just had a feeling that my hunch was right.
