All Secret Santa Paricipants sign in here please!
by Gadget inthe details of who to send a gift to will be getting pm'd to you all either friday afternoon or saturday morning!
according to the information i've found online the last posting day for standard parcels is dec 11th for usa and december 15th for the uk/europe, so you should all have plenty of time to select and send a gift, although sending sooner rather than later is prefered.
can everyone taking part post on this thread what things they like, what their interests are etc so that the person who is buying a gift for you has some idea what to get you.

Oh wow, we get to choose! Oh goody!
Um, first Santa, I want a pony. A pink one if possible. My own cotton candy machine. Or a old Pinball Game!
but really, Im just excited about sending and recieving a present! It will be way cool to get a package in the mail! Don't pick out no girly crap like bath oils or candles. I get enough of them as is! ANd actually, I think gifts that are homemade are the best gifts ever. So bake a couple dozen cookies from that "secret" recipe that you have stored somewhere. If you live farther away, send me something that is indicative of where you are from (Like if youre from Maine, you could send me a couple of big crustaceans. Just a hint, incase you get me as a choice, Mulan ) Or vermont, you could send me some maple syrup. Wisconsi, if you could get some string cheese for me, I would love you forever!!!)
I love this time of year.
Anyone that recieves a present from me will enjoy it, I assure you

Another Question for you, the reader and responder
by MelbaToast inagain from my research, from the paper, cults and families:.
paraphrase: if people in the cult quest authority and go public with doubts or opinions, then others will attack and possibly expel them for their outside thinking.
but if they withold their private thoughts, they feel decietful and inadequate and are torn in inner battles.

The thing that gets me the most about this research is that this a GENERAL psych class, pretty much a prereq on any college degree. Makes me even more sure than ever that I want to continue my education. No wonder that JW's still look down on higher education. Their corporation would be in dire need of some capital then!
My real hope is to be in clinicals ( I'm studying to be a nurse) at a hospital and hopefully help these JW's who are stricken with their own moral dillemmas such as choosing to refuse blood, when it is critically necessary. Of couse, this is in a perfect world.
I think if I speak candidly and earn their trust before the critical moments, then I might just save some poor kids life.

Again from my research, from the paper, Cults and Families:
Paraphrase: If people in the cult quest authority and go public with doubts or opinions, then others will attack and possibly expel them for their outside thinking. But if they withold their private thoughts, they feel decietful and inadequate and are torn in inner battles. "Because they are torn in these ways, it is exceedingly difficult for them to provide emotional and cognitive guidance to children" The moral structures of harmful cults are replete with contradictions and unsubstanciated idological assertions, often involving racism, sexism, homophobia, or xenophobia. " If children who develop in these envronments leave their groups and enter diverse, multicultural and more open societies, then they may face major adjustment and difficulties because they have no precult moral system to which they can return"

Next topic: Abusive Groups
by MelbaToast inonce again hello to all and a grand saturday night (or sunday am to all you uk'rs) and yet another request for your opinion for research: .
quoted from the article "cults and families": .
"abusive groups implement their demands for purity through rituals of confession, in which members must expose their personal thoughts, feelings, and doubts to leadership's scrutiny.

oh, definately with the peoples temple, Id rate them a ten on the scale of whackoness, thats for sure. And yes, that information goes along with other "established sects" and cults as we, not Just JW's.
Although the correlation is uncanny, we all have to remember that abuse is a problem we cannot run away from no matter what religion, cult, sect, apologetic, orthodox, mindset you are

Once again hello to all and a grand Saturday night (or Sunday am to all you UK'rs) and yet another request for your opinion for research:
Quoted from the article "Cults and Families":
"Abusive groups implement their demands for purity through rituals of confession, in which members must expose their personal thoughts, feelings, and doubts to leadership's scrutiny. Often groups require members to reveal their supposed deficiencies and shortcomings in assemblies, meetings, or other public settings"
Remind you of any Justice Committee meeting? Big sirens went off for me when I read this. How bout when someone in the congo had been reproved, disfellowshipped, and right after they announce that this person has been disciplined, they start in tirades or long lectures about the dangers of _______(drinking, premarital sex, drug use) It didn't take a bleeping rocket scientist to put 2 and 2 together, hell even when I was little I got that crap. Yet another aspect of the "established sect" that I find horrific. I remember myself being reproved at 16 and then them having a talk about fornication. I was mortified, all my personal buisness just being blabbed in front of the congregation.
any thoughts?

EVERYONE LOOK! I NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
by MelbaToast inok now that i've got your attention :) .
i am currently writing a psych paper, and i decided my topic is going to be jw's and the higher percentage of mental illness in the organization( in not so many words) i have been doing hella research in medical journals, and i would like to pose a request to anyone out there that has information on this subject to pm me or attach it to your response.
i would really appreciate it, and btw, if would be even better if this was from a peer-reviewed journal, because i have already searched all the sites and got the research from freeminds, watchtowerobserver, and sites such as this.

Well, it might....they are all abuses. Traumatic events, like seeing other children get beat in the bathroom while other people watched and sometimes smiled....creepy.
I always got a bad feeling in the back of my stomach when kids were taken to the bathroom. Still do just thinking about that image. And these people we had to call brother and sister? how f'd up is that? I have made a decision with my paper: I will start with the first memories of the KH, and trek my adventures through childhood, ending at my disfellowshipment.
And then, I will never speak of it again. This will be closure for me and a part of my life that is gone. Im going to start anew, and rid myself of all these negative feelings, bitterneses and just plain sadness that encompasses those memories.
I have to look at my new life and stop dwelling on the past. Everyday is a new day and I can make the best of it.
