hi everybody - can you spare a minute and tell me about your personal experiences regaring having a personal webpage as a jw?.
i am working on a school project about jw and the internet and in this connection i interviewed a representative of the society.
i asked him about personal websites and he said explicitly that, "there is nothing stopping individual witnesses from setting up that sort, and we dont say nobody is to have a website and all that kind of, you know that is entirely a matter for the individual to determine".. however, i can't really make that fit with the impression i get from surfing personal websites.

as to the effect of the internet on the dubs i like
to look at how many times the various threads are
being read. very, very impressive numbers for sure

maybe there were a very few, both geographically and
chronilogically scattered, groups, over the course of two
milleniums (2,000 years) but like where was the "Organization".
When the WTS wants it to be an "Organization"
then that is all you hear about. But when it is a very
tenious thread the concept of "Organization" is no longer
mentioned. Typical JW/WTS "double speak" or as many
posters would state - bullshit, bullshit, bullshit all the way.

just what i was about to write. Also, with the advent of the net and
subsequent "dumbing down" of the remaining loyal R&F i would think
that the jealousy and fear will continue esp. in rural cong. I live in a
major metro area and going to college is hardly frowned on at all. Esp.
if you can master the "double speak" , "wink-wink" style of communication.
Say one thing when you really mean another. ie: i am just going to trade
school to learn trade, just so happens it is nuclear eng or brain surgery. lol
the dubs are so willing to take advantage of all society offers today, which
is a direct product of our very advanced educational system. Just like the
blood issue and charity. Take, take, take but do not contribute one iota!!
Like where does all the "acceptable" blood fractions come from just to treat
the JW hemophelliac (sp?) population. Thousands and thousands of
donations are needed each year. what a bunch of oneseys.
makes me blood boil.

Please help me out here. I am confused about the
purpose of your web site. You state clearly that
the answer to personal JW sites is "don't" which is
amplified on the front page of your very own site.
Then why do you go ahead and create, host and
maintain your own web "presence"?
Is it a matter of ego? I get that feeling in the pit
of my tummy, esp when your "portrait" is so promeinetly
displayed.
As to your cheering on the "good news" about copyright
violaters being arrested, I can appreciate the LAW but
what about give freely. Did Jesus have his material CR.
thought every means possible was to the benefit of spreading
the Good News. Besides the WT has yet to be "intellectual"
that i can fathom. They have copied ideas from the Adventists
and others and are basically intellectually dishonest and
historical revionists.

some people think that it seems to make a big difference, that it will seriously reduce wts ranks because people get access to all sorts of information and because they can get in contact with people who maybe have the same doubts and thoughts as themselves.. but how big a difference do you think that the net is making?
how many people do you think have withdrawns from jw because of infomation or contact achieved over the net?.
Another huge impact will be the "dumbing down"
of the R&F. I do not see large numbers of dubs
even looking at the apostate sites much less doing
something about what they might see.
However the best and brightest, me excepted, are
the ones most likely to at first have questions, then
act to find out answers. There fore as time goes on
the R&F will be left with only the hardcore blindly
loyal ones. Not much encouragement for future
growth and vitality.
Just another boring, listless, moribund religion.
Just sitting back and reading the articulate well reasoned
and often very very funny comments quickly makes one
realize what a priceless resource the WTBBRTGVBN has lost
and will continue to lose plus the inability to attract new talent.

The internet may be having more an impact on "new ones"
coming, not coming, into the org. Once in it is very difficult
to leave.
I have not seen any figures from this summer's DCs but
would love to see a break down of the baptismal #s
as to "family members" versus real true* new ones. IMHO
the internet is also having a negative impact on the % of
children of loyal R&F that are delaying or outright denying
signing up.

Also the feeling of not being alone is a huge help.
With the association here one is able to realize
that you are not alone, you are not crazy, you
are actually ok, normal and help is available 24x7.
Pre net if you wanted to leave the "organ." you
were really very much on your own. Just read all
the experiences here and be sure to pass along
all the really "good news" that is just a click away.

IMHO you wwhen you are talking to a "JW" so you must either
filter in/out what he is saying. Or like most loyal dubs,
me included, he has never even looked.
actually I started to look last year when another JW
suggested I might find a suitable sister on one of the
JW web sites. LOL. Wow what an eyeopener. I am
college educated and have a modestely successful
web site yet I never even considered "making sure
of all thing" for myself, esp by peeking at info on the
"apostate" web site. Like what could they possibly offer.
I was totally intellectually lazy and let the FDS do my
research and thinking for me.
Man o man was very lazy (read dumb). Prior to the
net I tried to look up areas I questioned but could not
"easily" find anything. The internet is transfroming many
aspects of our lives and not always for the better but
now nearly anybody anywhere on earth can get all the
information they need for free and without fear of being
observed. I am convinced that there is an ever growing
% of loyal ones "looking/lurking" but lack the balls to make
a move or like most people are just too content with the
status quo.
Just read the history of humankind. many many, in fact
most people would rather "stay where they at at" even
facing immeniet death than "risk" making a change.

as an employee of the judicial branch of the federal government, i have access to a variety of information systems.
serving as a technology manager, i am familiar with the systems and databases that house public and private legal information.. after 15 years of witness life, i am forced by concern for life and family to rediscover the truth, the real truth.
i am posting this information in order to force people to think; think for themselves, inside their own minds and really get to know their own heart.
the thread started by maximus named gb admits it has no answers, blood ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=9056&site=3 ) is chock full of good information and is what this thread stems from.
if you have not already read maximus thread, you should.
i felt like adding my two cents about one aspect of that discussion.
Yikes, for some reason I am not able to open up
the URL posted above. I have tried several times
