The Mormon church is having a crisis. More and more are leaving, as the church ups it's media presence so those who leave are matching it ( the ' I am a Mormon' adverts have been met with 'I am an ex-Mormon' videos.) The institutional and conservative nature of the church means it is cracking like a warming ice sheet with sections calving off while the overall depth of belief is thinned. The recent onslaught of intelligent, witty atheism has caught the church in a broadside as more intelligent , educated born in members are open to progressive and well presented knowledge. The LDS church will collapse far quicker than the JW one which is simply ,slowly strangling itself in pointlessness. IMO.

How do I hear/feel God?

this is a serious question.. i know people that hear/feel god (and see postings about people's experiences), but i have not experienced this.

i have never heard anything audibly (or otherwise) nor "felt" anything inwardly.. i've prayed, read, quieted my thoughts, etc...but still nothing..

It is a shame you wish to leave based upon situations which could have been less contentious had they been presented otherwise. I take no shred of happiness to see you leave unchanged. A less overt ministry and a kinder approach could have been the win win situation here. The discussions over disbelief and non-belief will obviously continue with or without you because they are important and emotive issues that dig deep into who we are and what our worldview will be. You are no martyr and you have not been driven out and I suspect, after a period of reflection and ego healing you will return - this will be an interesting event and will be within your gift to put aside the you who threatens to call down evil and to replace it with the you who visits apostofests and laughs, jokes and shares an authentic friendship sans agenda. That AG will receive a much wider appreciation methinks.

to try and perhaps help "calm" some of the rhetoric and propaganda on the board lately regarding what i've posted as to the apperance of spirit being, the following are links to threads/posts that contain some information regarding their appearance and nature.

for those who haven't read of such before, they are not "men", as in human... nor do they appear as human unless they put on the appearance of an "able-bodied" (vs. disabled) man.

Oh tosh - why would I be paranoid? That's just silly - look it up.

What I'm suggesting that there are several posters who seem to buy into her mystical babble . Maybe I'm too generous in my estimation of people's general rejection of weirdness. If Cofty started telling me he saw leprechauns I'd happily point out how stupid that is and to seek help. A seriously abnormal individual on here is seeing hallucinations of strange things, they are preaching about supernatural off the wall messages that make the book of Revelations look sensible. This is beyond someone sharing odd scriptural interpretations or banging a hobby horse about some conspiracy theory. This is an individual drawing in a set of seemingly vulnerable people who are now mimicking her posting style and cheering her sh!t stirring. Those who are not in agreement with AG's flights of fantasy ( hearing voices , visions of imaginary beings , altered reality states where upon reading a secondary personality is engendered who reinterprets what is read - these are serious problems) but who support her like to point out that it's fine for her to indulge herself, it's fine to allow her to generate animosity, it's fine for her to say whatever she likes because it defends faith.

For the love of sanity - I'll defend your right to believe as long as it doesn't affect me materially, I'll engage in great discussions with believers willing to explore their belief in the presence of my disbelief, I'll happily point people to resources that explain such concepts as evolution, how the scientific method is an incredible and powerful tool with which to explore reality and yes I'll point out basic flaws in a belief position because as a former believer I have something to share. I'm cautiously hopeful that one day someone , somewhere will have more than a subjective proof for some extraordinary claim but so far everyone let me down and something so simple and self evident is proving to not exist outside the mind.

Having exited one cult with strong similarities to JWs , a cult founded by a charismatic but mendacious visionary who also claimed angelic visitations, the voice of god, visitations from divinity , new scriptural insights of a mystical nature I stand watching another person, ill, vindictive or whatever pull the same stunt. People are too important to abandon to the next god channeling charismatic. We stand on the day when science announces an earth shattering advance and yet here I am pleading with people to help but be wary of a woman who is currently calling me a fly on another thread.
