  When the Watchtower Society Celebrated Birthdays

  charles taze russell began zion's watch tower in july of 1879. but the earliest clue i could find in its pages that bible students celebrated birthdays was in the nov. 15, 1905 issue, which offered for sale copies of "heavenly manna" sugggested for birthday and christmas gifts.

  on april 1, 1907 it was announced that the new edition of the "manna" would "contain the same texts and comments as the former one, but will have twice as many pages.

  every alternate leaf will be blacked ruled, for use as an autograph and birthday record.

  I saw on another thread that birthdays CAN be celebrated but are strongly discouraged. Does anyone have this in writing? I have yet to hear of it being ok to celebrate a birthday.

  apparently a site hosted by a jw, you can listen to george benson, larry graham (sly and the family stone), the brother formerly known as the artist formerly known as prince, and others perform kingdom melodies.. my favorite is a instrumental by prince, life without end at last.

  That girl is a wack job. I missed the pink song book when they replaced it. OMG listening to some trying to sing some of those songs...made my ears bleed.

  LAWSUIT AGAINST WTS - WRONGFULL DEATH

  i filed a lawsuit today against the wts for wrongfull death of my daughter bethany.

  i had a press conference and all the media was present.

  i will be interviewed later today on two radio talk shows.

  Well since it's my birthday I pretty much blow all their no celebrating rules out of the water all in one night!

  I let my son do it. I could not care less because it's all about candy to him. I was robbed of a childhood and it's my job to make sure he isn't.

  A Letter from A Witness

  one of my witness friends in england told a friend of hers out in service about how i'm not going to meetings anymore, what a shame, etc., etc., so this well-meaning little person decided she wanted to write me a letter.

  i asked why, and she told me the story of this young man.

  remember how i was able to leave the matter of my husband?s relationship with jehovah in his hands?

  i had to tell my parents about all of this and i lived through hell in the days leading up to my committee meeting.

  but he was married, and i was friends with his wife and a he was ministerial servant and no way was i going to go down that road!

  In Search of... Good Parenting Tips

  calling all parents who raised children according to borg guidelines or anyone who was raised that way him- or her-self and, thus, is aware of the damage often thereby done.... i was raised as a 4th generation jw, drew away at least a decade ago, and am now the mother of a wonderful 3 year old girl.

  i am looking for some words of wisdom to keep in mind as i do my best to raise her in a sane and loving manner.. any ideas on positive things to keep in mind?

  and what about negative things to watch out for (you know, those nasty things we don't even realize are still part of our psyche until they jump out and scream "boo!")?.

  As a 3rd generation freak raised in the side show....I use one tool. I love my child without condition. He knows he is first and foremost in my life. No guilt and no questions.
