Understanding Christ's Sacrifice
by tec ini haven't always understood how christ could have carried our sins for us, and had them forgiven.
i've sort of understood because that's what people say he did, but the ransom (in a legalistic adam/jesus way) never held weight for me.
but something recently happened that allowed me to understand.

dear Tammy...
you said: "I don't remember an account saying that He made us "good". He didn't even describe himself as good. I only remember that he carried our sins for us - out of love - but not that this made us "good". "...
I walk all over the hills and I was way back in the beginning . genesis 1:27 says "So God created man in His own image..."genesis 1:31 says "Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good..."
I have heard people say that it doesn't matter what you believe about Jesus as long as you believe in Him...I don't believe this to be true, I believe it is very important that you understand the true nature of Jesus in order to have a "saving faith" in Him. Otherwise who is to say that belief in Him is a life or death decision...that statement could even only be a personal opinion. While the bible doesn't come right out and say that God is a trinity it does have scripture that helps the Holy Spirit to lead you to this conclusion. The knowledge of this truth is the "Love of God" spread abroad in your heart, in my experience.(col 3:16)
If you haven't seen these, perhaps you could set some time aside to listen to the two presentations...open your bible and pray that the Holy Spirit would use the scriptures to lead you into all truth.

dear Terry...
yes...God would forget the sin of the creature if they were covered with the blood of His Son because God the Father wouldn't see the sins when the creature goes to that side of the veil...Would God the Son forget?...He even told His own...keep remembering the flesh, keep remembering the blood...keep remembering what I've done for you and why.
Can humans forget completely harm others have done...no...but they can forgive...they do not go hand in hand this side of the veil.

dear Tammy...
good morning!...nice weather out there hey?...:)
you said:
"I understand that the Israelites would have understood a blood sacrifice/legal requirement. But I understand the desire to carry the wrongdoing of another person, out of love for them, knowing that they are unable, but wanting them to be free because of that love... and I understand making amends by doing what the other person should have done/should be doing." I understand this too... this shows love of neighbour. "what we should be doing is loving and showing mercy. Also if the whole law hangs on the commandments of love, for that is the most important law, then it stands to reason - at least to me - that all sin stems from the lack of love and/or mercy." in my reading of the genesis account it seems to indicate to me that all sin stemed from not listening to God because of deception...so one can sin, not out of a lack of love or mercy but out of complete ignorance...we all make mistakes because we are imperfect...He didn't make us perfect the account says that He made us "good". I'll talk to you later about this some more because I think there is more to discuss about the legal requirement that the israelites "understood" but I have to go now. love michelle

is isaiah 9:6 a 'message' of hope, peace and reconciliation in this life among all peoples? if so, how is it metaphor for something?...did God just suggest an extremely specific good idea without actually giving the jewish people the means?...or...does it speak of an actual person setting up a government of peace and reconcilliation?...who?...between whom?...why?...where?

dear Tammy...
"Out of love for us, Christ wanted to carry our sins on him... so he could make amends for us, because we are not in a place to understand or make amends for ourselves. We don't know what it is to love - completely, unselfishly, and everyone. We don't know what it is to show mercy to all. We don't understand because we rarely know who to turn to, or who to listen to in order to learn these things to begin with.
So Christ chose to carry our sins and he made amends for us by:
a) obeying his Father, showing faith and trust in His Father's will (which is where the ransom/adam/Christ comes into things... but there is so much MORE).
And this is the more, in my humble opinion:
b) Christ demonstrated what His Father wants from us - He forgave those who wronged Him, tortured Him, even killed him... and He asked His Father to forgive them as well.
He made amends for us by showing the mercy and the love that we are unable to show. That was fulfillment of the law. "...
scripture says that Jesus was set forth as propitiation for our sins not our inability to show love and mercy. (romans 3:24-25)
we are to have faith in Him in the same way that the israelites were to have faith in the previous "arrangement"...one goat had the sins of the people put on it and it was led out into the wilderness far away so that those sins would NEVER return to the people, and one goat with no blemishes would be sacrificed and it would make for a sweet smelling sacrifice to God. (sins) + the blood of a lamb placed on the doorpost and lintel of your door would make death "pass over " your house. (redemption)...for the Lord to become these sacrifices for us is the love of God through and in Jesus and because a man would take our place for judgement before His Father, there is the "legal" fulfillment of the law. Jesus had mercy on humanity who are unable to be "without blemish" according to the law because He loved us...His children: hebrews 2:13-18, john 1:12, isaiah 8:16-18.

dear PSacramento...
I used the word "motive" because love and compassion should be the motive that leads the leaders to lead faithfully, but the scriptures say that they were leading not faithfully (toward God) and not with mercy (toward the people) but were interested in getting a good name for themselves.
Jesus was motivated by love and compassion but more importantly He was motivated by TRUTH...He didn't tolerate their motives, He condemned the leaders and their motives but also leaving room for them to come to Him during their life and escape eternal condemnation.
...if Jesus is our exemplar He leads the way in stating that He rebukes those He loves. In the evangel ministry(most of the time), if you are telling a person about Jesus and why He was sent, you are confronting error and rebuking it...
dear designs...
are the jewish people waiting for a Messiah/King/Leader? or critique this please-
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (isaiah 9:6)love michelle

dear PSacramento...
you stated to our tec: "I love your posts because they speak of the teaching of Christ in the best and only way possible, liek HE preached them- Love, compassion, tolerance and accepteance of ALL, not because we HAVE to or because we are COMMANDED to, but because of the Love of Christ that is in Us."...
did Jesus really preach acceptance of the motives and actions of ALL? the scriptures say that He was intolerant of the actions of the leaders in the temple and the scriptures go on to say that He condemned the leaders personally, calling them (not their actions) a brood of vipers?
another thing that Jesus preached/taught was that God can not accept everyone into His everlasting habitation because some have condemned themselves. john 3:16-18
