BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME.....let's rebuild!
by Terry inokay we've all beat our chest, lamented and throttled the dead horse of aawa.. time to move on!.
i suggest those of us on j-w.n who care about creating something the right way take the trouble to get the framework going.. let's do the grunt work and get the nattering, debates, naming and organizing already pre-approved so that "others" who have the talent, ability, motivation and resources can move in and turn the key!.
because it was not done before.. there is more wisdom on this discussion board in our vast numbers than there could possibly be in a virtual boardroom with 8 people brain-storming.. that isn't an insult--it is just a statistical fact!.

by maccauk11 inall things were fulfilled in the 1st century.it was obvious the messiah was talking to the people in that generation not a generation 2000 years later.. christianity has for 2000 years placed itself in the shoes of those 1st century beleivers and think all things pertainott hem today.when infact none of it does.
the prohecise of the messiah cmae true in the 1st century including revelation which is symbolic, metaphorical apocolyptic language showing all tha thad been done .
the kingdom is here.the king rules and has done for 2000 years.

you said, in part, "So all things must have been fulfilled in the 1st cnetury. There are no types of dual fulfillments to come"...

acts 1:6 'Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord will You at this time restore the kingdom to israel?"'
acts 1:7 and He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority...but you shall be witnesses to Me...to the end of the earth."

How exactly did Jesus fulfill the law NOT the prophecies.
by mP intheres a clear difference between prophecies (predictions of future events) and laws(stuff you should and shouldnt do).. now since xians always says jesus fullfilled the law, how does one fullfill a bunch of requirements like dont murder, dont worship idols, shave your beard like this etc.. there are 613 laws in the torah, jewish rabbis have done all the hard work and we have a nice list on wiki.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/613_mitzvot.
im confused which of those some how select a unique individual to be the unique messiah ?
then again there were many messiahs, every king and priest of israel and judea was a messiah.

yes, Jesus came to the jews first but the majority did not accept Him. Then He sent out those jewish servants of His into the highways and byways to gather others (gentiles) to the feast. john 1:11-13; matthew 22:1-10
luke and mark were trusted to record the gospel (according to acts 12:12-14 marks mother's home was a place that peter went often as her servant rhoda recognised his voice!!) THIS assumes a very close association. the fact that the disciples that walked with Jesus trusted luke and mark to write their testimony and paul trusted luke in his missonary journey and then also called for mark, would lead many to believe that these two, far from hearing and believing a different gospel, would collaborate with paul's testimony as a means to further outreach. They ALL shared in the same ministry.

you said: "Well given the OT clearly states that Jehovah is the god of the jews and that the jews are his special people, followed by Jesus own words that he only came for the jews its pretty obvious that he was only focused on that commnity. The entire exercise was isolated to that part of the world. God has no care or interest in the lands and peoples outside that boundary"...
matthew 22:1-10...
"And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”’ But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them. But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests"
are you saying that paul had NO knowledge of the ministry of the other apostles when you say this: "Its quite evident from that passage that Paul knows nothing of the other 12, the earthly minsitry, miracles, where Jesus died and so on."...

Satan & the Garden of Eden
by love2Bworldly inhi-- i was forced to listen to a jw witnessing on a mass transit bus the other day.
she said something that sparked my attention.
i read almost the whole bible cover to cover when i was a jehovahs witless.. she stated that satan was in charge of the garden of eve as an assignment from god to watch over adam & eve but he became too full of himself.. how in the world do the jws explain this teaching of satan being in charge over the garden?

dear mP...
the serpent is not representitive of messengers of God as you have stated but have been representitive of wisdom. For instance...the depiction of the serpent in the garden of Eden as "more cunning than any beast of the field" is drawn from what was commonly accepted in Egypt...the serpent was symbolic of wisdom.(that is why the serpent referenced "knowledge" to be like God) The pharoah had a headpiece that placed a serpent right in the middle of his forehead to symbolize his wisdom in ruling over the people.
in the book of revelation there is depicted a great war between the "forces" of God and the "forces" of satan...it reaches its finale when the wisdom of satan and "his" angels are cast down and there is no place found in heaven for "him"(rev 12:8-9)...the serpents offer of "wisdom" of good and evil is shown to be ultimately inferior to the life giving wisdom of the knowledge of God.
we are told to be as wise as serpents but as innocent as doves (matt 10:16)...in revelation it is the wisdom of God that leads to knowledge of who is behind the scenes in deceiving the world with his "wisdom" (rev 13:16,18) ...(the wisdom of God in the knowledge of Jesus Christ as the ONLY way of salvation has little VALUE in todays economy, so to speak). in matthew 11:18-19 Jesus is comparing those who rejected JtB and his message about the Messiah(john 1:6-13) to those who rejected the wisdom from God...the children who didn't reject the wisdom of God in Jesus Christ are NOT those portrayed in verse 17 still waiting for the Messiah to appear from among them. proverbs 9:1-6, 10.
there is a contrast between the wisdom of God and the wisdom afforded satan throughout the bible. The wisdom of God gives life, the wisdom of the serpent brings death. It is shown in the bible that this is the way it has always been since the beginning. God works in mysterious and wise ways to draw men to Himself: John 3:14-15...

God is in the OT...the Holy Spirit has revealed by means of scripture that Jesus Christ is God the Son. The fact that this mystery hasn't been revealed to you personally doesn't make it a lie. the OT scriptures had to be opened or revealed to the apostles too.
