US troops should have been withdrawn for Iraq long ago. They were sent there based on lies, and are being kept there based on conspiracy theories, like "civil war will break out", or "terrorists will take over". No one knows what will happen when the troops come home. What we do know, is that as long as they are there occupying a sovereign country the resistance will continue, and American troops as well as British troops, and innocent Iraqis will continue to die for no reason.

Katrina Aftermath - whatever happened to personal responsibility?
by EscapedLifer1 inok, all you "bleedin' hearts" get ready to flame me..... i have been watching the developments in the devastated areas like everyone else, and something has begun to strike me.
there seems to be tens of thousands of people who are just sitting around waiting for help to miraculously drop out of the sky, and the longer they sit idle, the madder they get that the government hasn't swooped in and immediately solved all their problems.
i have a few questions about this mindset:.

The federal gov't definitely deserves more of the blame. You would think that after 9/11 they would have been more prepared for this. The magnitude of the hurricane was known days before it hit. The feds could have provided transportation for those who were too poor to leave on their own.
It's been reported that the Army Core of Engineers requested billions of dollars to fix New Orleans' levee system, but Bush on gave them a fraction of what they requested. Seems he had to find money for his Iraq war, and the tax cuts he gave to his rich buddies.

Europe - Do Their Leaders Have the Guts?
by roybatty inregarding iran's nuke program, the evil george bush stood on the sideline and let the europeans do it their way via diplomacy through the u.n. well, iran has basically told them to screw off and has now re-started it's nuke program and seems to have no intention to stop their development of nukes.
this u.n. delegation has now given iran the "eleventh hour warning" which they will laugh at.
soon it will be brought before the u.n. security counsel and a recommendation to impose sanctions against iran will be made and voted upon.

I do get scared at night. I get scared for my kids, when I put them to bed and start wondering what kind of world we will leave them. I get scared thinking about the debt that the president is creating that my kids and their kids will have to pay off. I get scared because I see so many people in this country who are unable to think for themselves. So many people who get their information from one source(usually Fox News), and repeat what they hear as if it's proven fact. "Kim Jong Il is starving his people to create a nuclear arsenal", "Iran will attack Israel", "Bush is always right and every other leader is evil".

Dont forget mad, psycho red neck Texans in charge of 12000 Nuclear Missiles...that scares the hell outta me.
Remind me again please, when was America elected judge, jury and executioner.I missed that one
Scares the hell out of me too. I think we in the US need to stop being hypocritical. We can't expect other countries to suspend their nuclear programs when we are expanding ours. Plus, leaders look at the nations that Bush has invaded and see that one way to protect your country from him is to have nukes.

Black people won't work
by SixofNine inespecially not in this heat; they'll just go stand under the air conditioning vent.
in fact, the only two groups of people who work in america anymore are white people, and mexicans.
hell, they ("they" in this case being the govt., i gather, but i'm unclear on exactly what govt.

Cosby's comments were mostly ignorant, just like some of the posts in this thread.

Your neighbor sounds just as ignorant as the president of Mexico, who said a few months ago that Mexicans come to the US to take jobs that "even black people won't".

Spiritual, not religious. I believe in God, but not necessarily Jesus.

What are your favourite vegeatables?
by greendawn innutritionists tell us that vegetables contain a wide variety of substances that are beneficial to our health, and these are not vitamins and minerals, they are called phytochemicals.
given the fact that in the western world people consume a great deal of industrially processed food eating a lot of fresh veg (and fruit) can only be beneficial.
do you consume a lot of these?

I don't understand why people are so quick to push sugar on children. Then they wonder why the kids are out of control, and bouncing off the walls 10 minutes later. My wife has a day care center, and one of the parents wanted to give the kids a treat. She brought Kit Kats and Snickers. At my son's school last year , his teacher would constantly give out candy as rewards for good behavior.

I understand what you are saying Sparkplug. My kids are young (6 and 2), so it's easy for my wife and I to feed them healthy food, and give them healthy drinks. My neices, nephews and my wife's 12 year old brother are a different story. They don't like coming here and eating the food that we eat.
