there was a statue outside the rhodes university.

a 30 year old black student then threw his pooh on the statue and that got the ball rolling to pull the statue down.

the board of this university built also gives out burseries and grants to previously disadvantaged black south africans and not disadvantaged black south africans.. there has been a huge debate in the country and now the statue has been removed.

This statue has come under fire prior to this recent incident, although the previous anger did not involve throwing of poop. 21 years is not a long time at all I might add.

When the so-called "democracy" was ushered in they had far larger things to worry about than the statute. Maybe now is the time it has come around. look at the situation with gay rights that has just taken off in the most recent decade. Why was it not taken up before with the same zeal? I am sure no one would push that "complacency" in the face of gay rights activists who are currently fighting for said rights.

Truthfully the poo that was thrown was disgusting, yet nowhere near as bad as the shit -filled legacy of that monster Cecil Rhodes. He was a demon and no one in the 20th century should see any reason to have the name or image of such a vile figure gracing anything.

Let's take a second and imagine that somehow Isis continues to destroy the monuments and temples and history of the nations that it passes through. It destroys cultures and landmarks in the middle east and after 20 years there is virtually no proof that ancient cities like Numrud exited or any signs of the Egyptians etc...

Then Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi erects an immense statue to himself and sets up a university by donating the land that he stole from people already living there. Somehow after 100 plus years the world gets together and destroys Isis and returns the land to its people. Would you be upset if you saw a native Egyptian or Iraqi hurl poop at that statue and call to have it destroyed.

Cecil Rhodes and his kind are just as bad if not worse than Isis. It just doesn't appear to be so when we are not on the receiving end of the brutality that he caused

opinion filed.. (signed published) the judgment against defendants on the negligence count is affirmed.

the judgment against watchtower on the cause of action for punitive damages is reversed with directions to enter judgment for watchtower on punitive damages.

This does mean however that the 7 million in compensatory damages for candace is still going to be awarded to her so there is still a hit to the Watchtower bank account. Granted it is only 1/4th the expected amount but a loss for the watchtower is a loss for Watchtower

I would think for many black South Africans it is similar to having a statue of Hitler in Jerusalem.

Cecil Rhodes was truly a disgusting man if you look at the things he did and they way he felt toward the native peoples of the continent. I may be wrong here but wasn't Hitler sympathetic to this guys feelings because Rhodes also had this intense love for the Aryans and hatred of everyone else? It has been awhile since I read anything about this guy but he really was a disgusting man.

As for Ghandi, most people like to remember Ghandi as this lovable fasting pacifist but again he also held the same racist feelings for the kaffirs" that most people did during his time and prior. History has a way of letting us forget about the filthy pasts of people and only the positive things that they have done.

Like you said Shaka Zulu killed tens of thousands of Africans, which is also deplorable. This young person not throwing poop on Shaka Zulu yet being upset with the white guy and the indian guy is probably the same reason you would bring up the black guy as an alternate example. I am sure if South Africa was always under the control of the native peoples that statue of a murderous Caucasian who hated Africans would never have been there because of the obvious pain it would have caused.

That young man should pay for his actions of poop throwing. Regardless of how painful that edifice of a notoriously hateful and bigoted man makes him or any one else.

LOL these comments are killing me LOL. Unfortunately though, I find out this morning that she was not the only one. That one other sister came to the elders after the memorial crying and stated that she has "THE CALLING" but did not want to stumble any of the friends because of her past so she wanted to request that she partake of the emblems after the other friends were gone in a private room.

Where is this religion going???

It would appear that the rate of anointed increase is greater than the number of publishers per congregation.

This girl for some odd reason was put on public reproof 4 times for the same thing. She then married a brother twice her age and they instantly began having problems because they were not having intercourse anymore and she began to once again have a roving eye. She is currently 28 and her husband 50.

2 years ago she was thanking about stopping the pioneer work and I encouraged her to continue. I sat in on her and her husbands family study up until 7 months before I left.

I get a call from a confused elder a few minutes ago and he says she partook tonight and she is of the anointed. I guess Jesus needs those professionals in the new system. ROFL

if you're anything like me and have a desk job you will sit for long periods of the day and it's very unhealthy according to lots of studies.. one thing you can do to change that is to stand - you burn more calories as well as reducing health risks.

yes, it hurts (like hell) at first and you really need a chef's mat to stand on and ideally some hard foam 'things' you can put one foot on to allow you to change your position.

you can also get 'standing stools' like the mogo to give a bit of a half-way house:.

I have a friend that came by to play with it and he is about 6'5" and he was fine with it as well. So even if you are very tall it is still a viable solution. I work half the day sitting the other half standing and I have to admit that it a god send. My back doesn't hurt as much and my wrist don't hurt as much because I can actually adjust this thing to the perfect height.

Also make sure you get cord extensions if you need or your new 4k monitor will crash to the floor when you lift the desk to high and the cord pulls it back. There is also a cord holding net built under the desk to keep the cords neatly arranged as well.

i currently have the L-shaped version of this desk. I purchased it about two months ago. It is the greatest thing ever. there is no preset but it takes like 5 seconds to go from very low to my standing height of about 6ft.

it says only about 135 pounds of weight on top but I have tested that and it works with even more. assembly took literally 20 minutes. Just do NOT GET THE WHITE LIKE I DID. I have an all apple setup and wanted a white desktop to match the color scheme. Unfortunately my pointers dog hair is easily seen on it

LONG BEACH — It was a Sunday morning service unlike any other.
On March 15, a few dozen spectators — mostly church members — gathered to watch a fire training at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses north of Long Beach.
The burn was made possible through a cooperative arrangement with the local congregation and fire departments in Pacific, Wahkiakum and Cowlitz counties.
Citing concerns about the condition of the small, 40-year-old church, local Jehovah’s Witnesses petitioned the church’s governing body for approval to replace their Kingdom Hall with a more modern facility. When they received approval, they agreed to let Pacific County Fire District No. 1 host a practice burn on the site.
Due to the region’s wet weather, fires are relatively rare, so agencies sometimes schedule training burns to help firefighters keep their skills fresh.
On Sunday morning, professional and volunteer firefighters from PCFD No. 1, Raymond Fire Department, Wahkiakum County Fire Protection District No. 4, and Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue practiced skills such as working on the roof of a burning building, removing windows, flooding a structure with water and using a sophisticated new type of nozzle. For the final drill, about 30 firefighters crowded into the dark, wet building to watch as PCFD No. 1 Division Chief Mike Karvia demonstrated a new dance-step-like technique for pulling a fire hose into a burning building.
Then, a team lit a controlled fire so firefighters could practice their skills in the presence of heat, smoke, steam and raining ash. Outside, a volunteer support team provided refreshment and monitored firefighters, checking vital signs and trading out exhausted air tanks.
In late afternoon, the firefighters cleared out and supervisors gave the “all-clear” signal — a deafening blast of the fire engines’ horns. It was time to let the building burn in earnest.
While a looming storm suddenly darkened skies and whipped the trees around, a roaring blaze climbed interior walls and burst through the holes in the roof. Within an hour, the roof began collapsing into the interior. Door hinges melted, walls sagged and fell in. A contractor in a trackhoe moved in to scoop up piles of smoking rubble.
On the lawn, spectators in safety helmets clustered underneath umbrellas. One church member said he was sad to watch the demise of a place that was filled with happy memories, but excited to be making way for a new and improved building.
Members of the congregation said the Jehovah’s Witness church has its own construction company, and the company has a reputation for lightning-fast work. The new Kingdom Hall should be ready in a matter of weeks.

Wow he participated in a ton of murder cases with the death penalty hanging over peoples heads?? I find that weird that no one in the congo checked him on this. Then again he probably makes load of money so no one says anything. However I be every single Corrections Officer and Police Officer and Janitor at federal buildings were forced to quit working.
