The fact remains if an officer of the law reacts out of emotion and breaks procedure his job comes into question and it should. If I am a black human resource manager and white people have been annoying me all day then call a white woman a racial slur I lose my job. It is how things work.

When I posted full videos and stories supporting my points you deleted the posts on more than one occasion. I asked you why and then that was deleted. I have stated repeatedly its not about color but about police aggression regardless of color yet you keep saying that I am only saying white and black. YOU ARE BEING DISHONEST. YOU ARE PURPOSELY IGNORING things that are being stated that do not support what you want to convey.

You have done this repeatedly to anyone who disagrees with you on threads about race. Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, etc... etc...

I believe laws are there for a reason and should not be broken. I stated the other officers did their jobs appropriately. No one wants to live in a lawless society. No one said people should be able to do anything the want or even suggested that people should do whatever they want.

However some constantly make excuses for the officer who overreacted. Not you. Even taking it to the degree that he didn't over-react.

Actually police are suppose to react to the level necessary to CONTROL a situation. If a person was violent, they can be violent to the level to get control. Once a person has stopped being violent they are not suppose to run up and kick them in the head 12 times in a row when the person is not doing anything to warrant that.

I am sure that even your cop friend would attest to the fact that a police officer has no need to be violent when a perp is not.

Actually police are suppose to do that. Police are not to take out frustration on a perp.

Simon, do you think that the police officer who is repeatedly kicking a man sitting on the curb until he falls from a seated position to laying out should be allowed to do that? Please answer that question.

Well I posted some where POLICE attacked white people as well but you deleted them... I posted one with a police dog attacked the man on a couch based on the call of an officer but you deleted that one as well.

I have no reason to post pictures of police being attacked because that isn't what the thread is about. Police take a job in which they know that will possibly happen to them. They receive training to combat that.

In Orlando yesterday a man was having an altercation with his girlfriend. They were fighting and Police came. They tried to arrest the subject and he ran away. They shocked him and he ran. He apparently hit the officers as well. That is what the officer states, and I believe him. So as the man ran away he decides not to run anymore and give up. He sits down on the curb and surrenders.

As an officer of the law what should you do now. Should you get angry and kick the man repeatedly and take out your aggression for what he previously did... or do you do your job and just cuff him? Well the general feeling of the comments were:

1. He was fighting with a woman so he deserves to have his ass beat by the cops.

2. He resisted initially so what happens after that is up to the discretion of the police

3. He was a criminal so he got what he deserved.

None of which make sense. Again police are not to take out aggression on anyone, that is not their job. If my brother annoys me and he punches me in the face and I lash back and beat him unconscious I still get in trouble because I went overboard. Police need to be held to the same standard. Does not matter if the offender is white / black / Yellow / Green or polka dot.

Is RIDICULE acceptable in online debating?

this topic was inspired by one of fhn's comments on the 'warzone' thread, so i'll just restate my post there .

.. "i've been wondering for a while now if ridicule really is an unacceptable feature in debate - it certainly isn't a valid form of argumentation.

the thing is, some individuals really do come out with the most laughable nonsense and parade it as a serious proposition that merits attention.

I have to admit this troubles me at times as well. I get annoyed by those that are hard core but then I realize my heart was wrapped up too years ago so how can I be so dogmatic. You made and excellent point

I said in the first sentence that people think nothing should be done. SO when i said, "WHEN NOTHING IS DONE" I was saying it with the idea of IF nothing was done.

I apologize if I confused your words or your intent. Because the general consensus appeared that he did nothing wrong and that everything he did was justified. I feel a stiffer punishment is needed NOT because she was BLACK as I stated before. There is a growing problem of police aggression in the USA. THE DOJ has released reports for so many major cities that they need to reform the training policies and how they handle citizens.

A message needs to be sent. I applaud the other 11 officers who did their job, however letting this guy skate by would just encourage more of the same behavior.

Maybe some of what is being labelled ridicule only appears to be ridicule because this is not a face to face scenario. A number of the posts I read come across as being dogmatic or mean spirited when I am sure at times they were not.

I am also aware that there are instances in which people are ridiculing someone, but they are only capable of doing so because they know hundreds of miles and an anonymous screen name separates them from being smacked around.

I have ridiculed a person or two. However, it was usually based on something that I perceived to be them ridiculing me. Tit for Tat. Not adult behavior but I will dabble

Here is the problem, you even admit the said officer lost it. However, it is believed he deserves no repercussions. So when nothing is done and other officers take it to this level or just up another notch nothing will happen. It will get to a point where the brutality will become the norm.

Who would have thought in America a time would come when things like Stop and Frisk would be supported by the mass of Americans. Once people become conditioned to certain types of activities all it takes is a little more time to be conditioned to worse.

Worse still, even when officers consistently go outside the bounds of the circumstances that allow them to perform these types of actions nothing is done in the large majority of situations. Policing procedures need to be addressed. They also need better training. Not military training either

For instance we watch the whole good cop bad cop scenario on T.V. where you have a disrespectful suspect. Instead of police being professional we will cheer them on when they slap the perp or when they abuse them. Why is that? Because we always consider whatever the boys in blue have to do TO GET WHAT THEY WANT it is worth it.

I am aware that not all police are this way. I never said they were. But in a number of precincts in a number of places you will have numerous police who act outside of the training they receive.

What would happen if it comes out, that this guy had a past of bias in dealing with women a certain way, or dealing with minorities a certain way. Would most people still excuse his actions and refuse to make a link. Yes

Then you have the term BLUE WALL of SILENCE. Why would such a thing even need to exist for people who are public servants. You have an unwritten code in which you will not report on the activities of your brothers. That is ridiculous

The more people become accustomed to officers getting more aggressive the easier it will be to let things get more out of control. Someone sent me a video earlier today of a suspected criminal being told by a detective, "If you want to go in front of a jury like a cold blooded criminal, we can do that. The guy was obviously enraged by the officer pretty much telling him, that he had no chance of winning a case the guy bangs the table, jumps up into the officers face. Even puts his hand in the officers face.

He is handcuffed to the wall by one hand and the other is free. The guy is definitely out of line and needs to be restrained. The officer punches the guy in the face. I can understand this. I am not upset by these actions. However after the guy has obviously given up the detective proceeds to beat him for an extended period of time.

2 others come in the cell and then they hold the guy as he is screaming to see the guys boss. The detective is literally poking his eyes out.

Where was the taser? Where was the mace? The comments on this video were amazing. Mostly from people saying, "he is crying like a bitch. I would have fucking killed him LOL. I bet the N*gger won't do that again."

No one really saw a reason to ask why is the officer going so far over board. Then as I viewed the page there were hundreds of incidents like this. One where a woman thrown head first into a cell and she cracks her skull. It really is out of control.
