Oh, that was really lovely! I am so happy for you and those boys!
Reading that made me get all choked up and teary....

after a year of inactivity, research and soul searching, i still have one lingering question to the posters out there.
what are alternate uses of wt books?
i currently use 4 bound volumes to hold up a couch with a broken leg, we're getting a new couch, so there's 4 back into circulation.
Kwin,
Just so you don't think we're nuts for suggesting e-bay:

I guess it would be a good way to get research materials......

Just don't try to count them as placements, 'cause how are you going to do return visits?
(Sorry, that was bad. My sinus headache is making me loopy)

The WT's and Awakes!, I recycled them......The other books, I gave to charity (Goodwill, etc.) along with my bookbag and all my meeting clothes and "service" shoes. I will confess to having a small, orderly bonfire with some friends, using some of the publications.

i can remember drinking out of a bottle.
and i remember when i was 2 1/2 my mom carrying me around on her hip at the assembly hall in puyallup wa.
how far back in your life can you remember?
I was two, it was summer time. We went swimming in a neighbor's pool. My floaties fell off or I pulled them off and I sank slowly to the bottom of the pool, without making a sound. I remember watching Quinn, the neighbor boy swim down to me and race me back up to the surface. I don't remember panicking. I do remember all the attention I got and how upset my mom was. We lived outside of Jacksonville, Oregon in a placed "The Applegate". We lived on Humbug Road and most of our neighbors were JW's. Memories of when I lived up there are the best memories I have of my childhood. We were wild children; climbing in the grove of madrone trees with bare feet; sleeping out in the open; riding on the backs of our father's dirt bikes, screaming for them to go over more bumps and to go faster.
Cripes, now I am all nostalgic.

by how many people
even more so how many people you meet here and after getting a chance to know them, learn they know some of the very same people you do?
(for example i met a woman here on the board whom i have never met personally but she knows some people that i grew up, even the 'brother' who gave me my first kiss..
I haven't actually talked to anyone who is from my hometown, but I have talked to several people here who knew people that I knew or had heard of some of the same ones.
Hoping to find someone from my old hometown of Roseburg, Oregon. If any lurkers from there are out there, send me a PM.

ever since my mother took me to that sci-fi movie when i was 4, i've been aware of what movie music does to persuade us that what is onscreen is something we can identify with emotionally.
filmmusic has had many incarnations from the guy with the piano in front of the silent film making it up as it happens on screen to the symphonic scores of the golden age of film to the proliferation of pop tunes that are "dialed in" and "dialed out" by contemporary directors.
the truly long-lasting classic films have stand-alone music that lives after them.
I forgot one of my favorites!
The Pianist!
i wanted to say hello and introduce myself.
i am probably one of the longest lurkers here ever.
i've been lurking for almost three years now, and i enjoy reading a lot of the posts.
Welcome!
You mentioned that you and you're husband got out along with other family members. I am really nosy, so I am wondering, how many including you and your husband--because I think that is very cool that so many of you got out together. One of the hardest things for me was feeling like I was all alone in my "escape". I have a good support group now (IRL and here) but to have that from the beginning is incredible.
Anyway, I am glad that you have finally "come out" of the lurker closet

Blackhawk down---that soundtrack gives me goose bumps everytime I listen to it
The Insider--this soundtrack has a lot of stuff by Lisa Gerard (from Dead can Dance) and is very haunting
The Gift--the movie was so-so, but Neko Case is amazing (there's also some stuff on there by Loretta Lynn)
Jurassic Park--the first one. The "scary scene" music is the best

i am getting news from jws who have attended the district convention that the drama (which is pre-recorded and played to lip-syncing actors) has a demon-possessed woman with a ?demonic voice?.
can anyone confirm this?
it is said to be pretty creepy sound effect and many jws are uncomfortable when they hear it.
Doc,
Thanks for the Mp3. That voice acting was just awful. It sounded like a badly made cartoon.
