Ridicule doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, or harmful.

I saw a news program regarding high achieving black youths and how they get ridiculed because they are trying to "act white". Seems sports and music are the acceptable way to success.

My daughter was ridiculed in school this year by some of her long time friends because she wanted to join band. It's unacceptable because it's a "geek thing". It hurt her terribly, and she cried many tears of the loss of her friends, but she is still playing.

Many forward thinking inventors were ridiculed over ideas that seemed outrageous for their time.

The ridiculers aren't always right and many times they are wrong.

Oh yeah, I'm sure there are thousands of cases of emotionally scarred adults as a result of being occasionally breast fed as an eight year old

The state claimed that breast-feeding a first-grader was "sexual molestation," but a family court judge disagreed. Nevertheless, the judge refused to return the boy to his mother.

Oh, good grief! Sexual molestation? That statement sure tells the story of how deeply Americans have sexualized women's breasts.

I would agree that the child would probably be much more traumatized by being removed from his family.

Eight years old is a little old to still be breast feeding. Really, though, what harm is being done other than it's socially unacceptable? It is obviously a source of comfort for this child. It's not like she feeding him every two hours. I personally would not breast feed an 8 year old, but what harm is being done to this child?

i am a coptic orthodox christian right now, and i am good friends with a witness.

unfortunately, i didnt know enough about my own religion before i started listening to my friend and i am starting to question my faith.

You won't find many "actual witnesses" posting on this site to encourage you. This is mostly a XJW site and the WTS strongly discourages its members from visiting any site other than the societies official website. Imagine that? A group whose teachings are so easily disproved that they tell their members not to read anything that might bring to question what they teach.

I'm sure you are getting slurped up one side and down the other by them, NOW. After baptism, that all changes because then they have you. Do not do anything until you have researched the WTS thoroughly. Of course, witnesses will strongly DISCOURAGE you from doing that. Ask yourself, "why would they do that"?

Visit those sites that are listed on the bottom of this page. Freeminds is a very good place to start. Plus, the books that have been recommended to you so far.

If you can ignore some of the arguing that goes on, read many of the personal stories here. Some offer sad testimony to the power a bunch a wrinkled old men in Brooklyn, NY, can have over peoples lives and the resulting devastation.

My own family was ripped in two over 20 years ago. Over what? A few lines in the Watchtower magazine regarding associating with family members who simply don't want to be witnesses anymore. They may claim they don't shun, but reality tells a very different story.

I wish you well and please gather as much information from various sources as you can and be suspicious of anyone, or anything, that tells you to do otherwise.

Did You Get Your Flu Shot?

both my husband and i got ours this week.

it seems the supply is limited again this season.

he didn't have any side affects, but my arm has been hurting since yesterday.

Good thinking starting this thread. A few years ago, after a couple of rounds of very bad cases of the flu, my Mom who is in her 50's started getting her yearly shot. It really has made a difference.

This month I have already had a mild case of the flu and she recommended that I get a shot. They are being offered several places in my town. We have a large retiree population so they are really pushed here. Still, I'm not sure about getting one. I guess I always felt like it was for "old" people (please don't throw rocks at me).

I'm am wondering if the benefits outweigh the risks?

Does Our Arguing Scare People Off???

with so much going on over here, do you think that newbies, lurkers, or potenial apostates could or do get scared off from this place?

if someone is on the fence and they want to explore the internet and are warned that all you'll see are disgruntled apostates, could these forums make them think the "faithful and discreet slave" is actually right?

the visiting co pointed out in his talk that "people who love to practice evil will be destroyed [very strong vocal emphasis on this word] !

" many of you insist he is referring to those whose only "sin" is not being a baptized jehovah's witness and their children.

after my experiences on the internet from ajwr to h2o to this forum, however, i'm beginning to appreciate that all is not "black" and "white" but many shades of gray, many hues of stunning colors, and a mixture.. why not use the words killed or executed to describe the fate of these evil people, i asked the co afterwards?

well i had the surgery 3 weeks ago and it looks very good.

the doctor said the cancer hasn't spread any further (thank god!

) but they still want me to have radiation.
