  I read the novel to see if it had any new spin on stuff I had already read from the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail in the 80's. It put forward that whole san greal ---> sangreal ---> sang real argument bit if I'm not mistaken. The source for all those "revelations" was supposedly a member of Priory of Sion. The document that was used to support its existence was hoaxed.

  IIRC, the oldest legends of the holy grail are roughly from about the same time frame as the Arthurian ones and from that same part of the world. So why would you be looking for hidden meanings in the word in Swahili? Urdu? or to the point, French?

  The "messages" in Davinci's paintings was a new take. If you look at the actual Davinci paintings mentioned in the book though, you see that their trying to read way too much into them - like some of the supposedly subliminal messages in WTs, ads, etc.

  I think the author of this novel, must have had some idea of the flaw in just sticking with the sang real bit. So he tried to show a connection of the original chalice with Magdalene by way of the motifs of the blade and the chalice in the Sacred Feminine ( Honestly though, I wouldn't be suprised if he misportrayed even those symbols).

  As a novel, I did come to like the character of Silas.

  Do ALL men cheat??

  i was watching an old eddie murphy hbo special a few weeks ago where he was talking about relationships.

  in his bit, he went off on how all men cheat on their wives and girlfriends.

  he was adamant that even the nicest of guys will take the opportunity to cheat if given the chance and that women need to understand that this is the way it is, 100% of the time.

  Sociobiologists aren't painting all men with the same brush. Just making comparisons with the behaviours of other primates in general. Many guys definitely cherish their relationships and I don't doubt that your squeeze is very faithful. I wouldn't cheat regardless of the unhappiness of the relationship. But like frankispeakin pointed out, add in alot of booze on top of that (hypothetically- I'm practically a tee-totaller) and its more likely that people will have their baser drives take the helm.

  As a teen who was way too enamored with secret societies moles and such, I would have loved to "infiltrate" the upper circles and get the "real" dirt on the WTBTS. But I hated the little crap I had to do just as a regular publisher, that I knew I couldn't hack through more of it without losing my sanity.

  I think the universe hates me because I was maddeningly enough made an MS and they piled on the work.

  Jonah as Fiction

  the book of jonah contains one of the most famous stories in the ot: the account of a cowardous prophet who was swallowed whole by a giant fish.

  the only other mention of jonah in the ot however is absolutely silent about this remarkable story (2 kings 14:25), and there is much evidence that the book is a late tale written after the babylonian exile.

  the book is unique among the twelve minor prophets for being mostly narrative and it has much in common with post-exilic haggada (such as the first-century lives of the prophets, which added considerably to the jonah legend), the "great city" of ninevah is little more than a distant, vague memory (as evidenced by such things as the anomalous title "king of ninevah" and the non-mention of the king's name in jonah 3:6), legendary touches like the giant fish and the magical growth of the castor-oil plant, and especially the late aramaisms rife in the book (such as spynch in 1:5, ht'st "to think" in 1:6, stq in 1:12, mnh in 2:1, and so forth).

  Ladies measure his balls if he has big ones like the chimps there is a good chance he will cheat. I heard that somewhere,, and it makes sense to me. But don't forget there are many women who cheat too and I would guess that as the sexes equal out so to speak that the % of cheat men and women will be equal and may even swing toward woman having more cheating type of sex than men.

  Well, as I understand it, the hypothesis is that testicle size seems to vary with the promiscuity of the female primate. Because they really decide whether they want the horndog on them or not. It goes something like: The more promiscuous she is, the more sperm within her competing for her egg. So the male would be better off sending in a greater number of sperm, to increase the likelihood that his sperm reaches the egg first. Chimps with less sperm are eventually beat out, they have less offspring whilst, the real chimps have their numbers increase.

  What I was talking about before was empirical data on male primate promiscuity. As a group, human males are less promiscuous that chimps.

  at times, we hear about brothers in another land who have come into material need because of persecution, disaster, or other difficult circumstances.

  i have known some people (i dont' know if it's true or not) [and i am the kind of person that doesn't like to cause trouble] who have said that jehovah's witnesses keep tabs/records on people.

  all the things they have done like if they got babtized, personal problems/experiences, arguments they may had with people, and just their general conduct as well.

  have any people here found out about a "black book" where they keep records on you?

  The publisher's record card and files are on everyone, even the elders. They track the exact same data. I forgot to mention that on the card it would also state whether you're a ministerial servant or elder and the date you were appointed as such.

  The congregation secretary has all of the records kept for each publisher. The file basically consists of a publisher's card that has on it your birthdate, whether your a baptized or unbatized publisher, date of baptism, your service records (hours, mags, RVs, for each month), and if it applies whether you're also anointed or inactive.

  On top of that basic file, they'll keep any info that has to do with your being reproved or disfellowshipped or your letter of DAing, and they'll als may possess copies of correspondence you sent to WTS headquarters (HQ likes to send copies of them to your congregation's elders particularly if they are insolent --- isn't that nice of them?)

  Her group, Utah Teens for International Outreach, is also sending letters to area high schools asking for help. The donations, to be collected for two weeks, will likely be sent to a Jehovah's Witnesses office in the disaster area, she said.
