Evolutionary establishment tactics
by hooberus inwednesday evenings (august 24th) fox news program "the oreilly factor" featured an interview life after "intelligent design" with dr. richard sternberg, editor, of the peer-reviewed journal "proceedings of the biological society of washington.
" dr. sternberg's home page discusses the recriminations he faced by certain members of the evolutionary establishment after publishing an arcticle by another person advocating the possibilty of intelligent design in the peer reviewed journal.

Many of the precursors to life have been found in comets, meteorites, and even in space. (i.e.glycine in space). The materials are all there. Sure we don't currently have a solid natural explanation of how life arose from them. . IDers at best can only say: An intelligence was responsible. And its left at that. What else can we derive? Searching for materialist explanations can increase our knowledge and possibly redirect us to practical information.

You wanted to communicate with some being named Cinergy. what?
I think thats talking about the A.I. called Synergy (sp.?) on the cartoon Jem and the Holograms. I had a younger sister that loved that show and had a couple of the dolls. I really wanted to take those flashing leds/earrings and add them onto my dinobots somehow.

I think I may have actually enjoyed putting on my suit for meetings, if I could have gone with just a T-Shirt under the jacket.

Cross or a Stake - which was it?
by KAYTEE inwe were always lead to believe, when we belonged to the jws, that jesus died on a "stake".
was this really true or did he die on a cross as all other religions appear to believe.
if it was a cross, what on earth did the jws get out of saying otherwise.

scholar
I've learned that there's really no point in discussing anything with you because you won't be honest enough to acknowledge an opposing valid point. And the childish name-calling doesn't say much for you either.
You simply don't want to admit the errors of your idol (WTS), and so ignore the historical evidence as well as how the words in question had different meanings at different points in time.
If I were to say in front of a whole bunch of people today, that were you were extremely gay, how would they understand it?( I didn't choose this term as a passive aggressive way to rile you - honest ). Well I should think you'd take it as a compliment....because the original meaning of the word is such a nice thing to be called.....you strike me as a cheerful poster.

Oh "scholar"
Besides these simple facts without engaging in the historical debate there is the problem that the cross is a pagan symbol and it would be a violation of the sacred for Jesus to be associated with a pagan thing. Jesus death was sacrificial and a sacred act of atonement and it could not violated by the introduction of something unclean and detestable. You frankly are a stupid woman for suggesting such an alternative that something Holy could then become unclean. How utterly stupid and monstrous to impugn and insult the death of our Saviour that way. You should be ashamed of yourself. What you are saying is that the High Priest on the Day of Atonement could and did bring unclean things into the Holy of Holies.
Theology alone renders the idea that Jesus died on a cross as impossible despite what later tradition and current scholarship on the crucifixion believes.
Hey corect me if I'm wrong but, just where did the Christ offer up his blood as a sacrifice to God according to Hebrews 9:11? I don't think there were any pieces of wood with him there -- that is brought into the Holy of Holies in Heaven.
More importantly though: Isn't the spilled blood even of simple animals suppossed to be able to sanctify those who were defiled? Do you even understand Hebrews 9:13?
How much more so then the blood of the Christ? Remember Hebrews 9:14? Or are you saying that a couple of pieces of roman wood would be too much for the blood of the Christ to nullify?
Oh yeah, read Matthew 5:22 while you've got your Bible open.

That's a good question Leolaia. If the fullness of the Godhead resided bodily in Jesus, then just what did he empty himself of to go from having the nature of God to a human? If I didn't have to consider that bit in Colossians 1:19, I'd naturally read the part in Phillipians to mean that the heavenly Christ emptied himself of some of his divine attributes to become human. Wouldn't that mean an actual change in nature though? In a way wouldn't that then make him less than God? There's the idea in another letter of Paul's about Christ giving up his riches and living in poverty so that the faithful could be taken out of their poverty and share in his riches. There's definitely a change in nature for the faithful so why not for Christ?
If I remember the nuns correctly, they explained this emptying of himself as willingly imposing the limitations of human existence onto his divine being. Like a person would restrain from flaunting some talents or gifts they had in order to be humble (which was the main point Paul wanted to make). That didn't mean that the person somehow lost those gifts. P.S. Ingenous
If Jesus was God, than his death upset the scales of justice, but in the other direction. Whereas before man was condemned to death via Adamic sin, the death of God would be an overcompensation as opposed to a ransom of equal exchange.
not sure what denomination made this argument, but they said that only the blood of God, of the infinite, would be enough to atone for an infinite number of sinners. Not that God wants an infinite amount of them, but as an all loving God, he'd make sure that the provision was available indefinitely. Or something like that.

classicist,
I can see the basis for diphysitism in the pauline material (like in the thought conveyed at Colossians 2:9) I'll admit I wasn't always listening attentively in religion class. What happened to the Second Person of the Trinity upon the death of Jesus? Did that part of the Godhead cease to exist if it was essentially one hypostasis with the human? Or did only the human die?
The nuns didn't have any patience with me. I'm sure there must be well thought answers but they never gave them to me. So I guess you can see why I might gravitate to the ideas of say the Nestorians. Having both human and divine natures in one living human being isn't a problem for me. I' just wonder whether the pauline epistles give us enough detail to conclude whether the two natures became one hypostasis or instead were two in one temple of flesh?

True, a docetic view would mean that God didn't die. Can God die? Hey! No wonder I scored much higher as a muslim than a catholic in that religion quiz.Maybe too, the path to human salvation doesn't come from an actual propitiatory sacrifice, but from imitating that kind of self-sacrificing spirit? Why do you need a resurrection if one has an immortal soul? Oooops sorry! I'll stop now because I'm straying from the thread topic.
Leolaia Yeah, the orthodox did an effective job of writing against the docetic views to gain the majority mindshare. But I still find apocryphal stuff very interesting: like the Acts of John (where Jesus appeared to John at the Mount of Olives at the same time of the crucifixion for example), or even that bit in the Gospel of Peter having Jesus say "My Power, My Power, Why have you abandoned me?" - Which personally I find kinda cold though for a loving God to do....but again I digress. Dang its this late!? Ciao.

No wonder both the dubs and the nuns at school thought I was a hopeless heretic.
No Raelians? On second thought, best not to scare myself. I'm already kinda wigging out that I'm more of a quaker than a secular humanist.
