Special Campaign announced for September: Creation vs. Evolution

we had a boe letter read recently.

the september 2006 awake will be 100% dedicated to the "creation vs. evolution" issue.. even the "young people ask" article will be something like "how can i defend my belief in creation in school?

also, i think one of the articles is entitled "does the bible support the notion that the earth was created in 6 24-hour days?".

I agree with you that the situation with Behe is sad. The Awake also has a handful of mini profiles that has a number of people from different scientific fields - all saying how rational it is to believe in a Creator and how the evidence points to it....oh yeah...all except one of them are clearly labelled as jws.

In questioning the evolution of new species, the Awake bases one line of refutation on the viewpoints of a Wolf-Ekkehard Lonnig (he's one of the believing jw scientific "authorities" profiled). The material is clearly taken from the wording on his webpage.

it may even be a wt study article.. in the august 15 watchtower, the box "in our next issue" has three forthcoming articles, and one of them is "when a loved one leaves jehovah".

of interest, it's not when a loved one leaves the society, it's jehovah.. will keep you posted.

Thank You everyone for all your thoughts on it. I was feeling more down than angry after reading it, because there was a bit of me hoping that there'd be some softening on the position. But with the degree to which all these people allow themeselves to be conditioned, allow their own thoughts and feelings to be dictated by the Borg, I can see why the GB tries to demand as much as possible, even testing the limits blood ties.

recently i had the pleasure to examine a stash of 1920s and 1930s golden age magazines, among the rarest of watchtower publications.

i thought it would be a fun idea to have a thread in which i share with you some of the amazing, ridiculous, hilarious things contained therein.

Do you think a nuclear weapon will be used in war or terrorism in our time?

with all those nukes out there, and all the countries that have them or are making them.

do you think it is something we should expect, that in our lifetime a nuclear weapon will be used in war or an act of terrorism?

i personally think it is possible, and i think it would be the middle east that would see this happening.

I heard that the Russian mob cheated Al Qaida out of millions of dollars by selling them essentially radio-active waste.They thought they were getting weapons grade material from the Soviet arsenal. No honour among thieves.

I'm almost certain that dirty bombs are going to be used by terrorist cells (as soon as they possibly can do so) against both the US and Isreal.

Something that Canadians should also consider: cuz the preparations may be being made right under our noses. Ex. Anyone who lives in Hamilton Ontario, probably remembers how a few years back there was the question of whether some radio-active waste from McMaster's nuclear reactor was unaccounted for....They denied it at first but then one leaked source said that there were very small amounts missing (they may well have been improperly handled by sloppy grad students - or not)....Another source said it was just small amounts of irradiated medical waste that was improperly accounted for...and another a fairly large amount of over 80 kilos....whatever the case, its good to keep a tighter lid on these materials.

Hey Maive: Yeah I agree with you. The Azzuri don't really have a chance against Germany.

I can't tell you how ecstatic I am over France's win! That was a rivetting game to watch. I was worried that Brazil would be excessively physical with them and tire them out. Portugal is going to be tough.

While the nuns would get tired of us pupils endlessly questioning this or that, and they were a bit edgey with a few of us, they never chastised us if the questions were actually thoughtful. They engaged the students who gave them those opportunities.
