the torture of being more "sharing and expressive of your feelings", and to opt for more
"cuddle-time" rather than wanting to watch a cool action flick together.
i have a cousin, who i feel, was greatly responsible for me ceasing to believe in jw teachings.
besides showing me the "light" he is a very wise and kind person and deserves my respect.. he always stressed that humans are inhently selfish.
while i was a jw i quickly passed his thoughts as being too independant of "god".
I can honestly say that I have seen more selfless acts on this single website than I ever did in the JW congregation. Why is that?
I'm no expert on the human psyche, but here's my take. Many JWs (but not all) are mainly drawn to the cult because the "end is nigh" and it offers them a fantastic reward. They're serving Big J of the WT cause he'll pay out large. "Because its just the right thing to do" is tagged onto that. So maybe thats why you apparently see more selfishness among dubs.
The really caring people among the dubs, who finally catch on, "get out of her" and that explains the awesome displays on this board. All of the posters here have made my icy cold veins warm up with their genuine love.
In defense of many dubs I've known though, they've done some pretty selfless things. Most people, dubs and non-dubs, are a balance between selfish and altruistic with each of us at different points along that dichotomy. As social animals we're cooperative. If you're a cynic you can still argue its all strictly done out of self interest, but I'd like to think that we're ascending to genuinely more selfless creatures.
i was watching an old eddie murphy hbo special a few weeks ago where he was talking about relationships.
in his bit, he went off on how all men cheat on their wives and girlfriends.
he was adamant that even the nicest of guys will take the opportunity to cheat if given the chance and that women need to understand that this is the way it is, 100% of the time.

Being Serious: not all men cheat, but a good portion would if given the chance because they'll let instinct override principle. A prof in 1st yr bio briefly lectured on darwinian fitness and promiscuity of different primates.Human males fall in between the range, with the very promiscuous chimps on 1 end and the monogamous gorillas on the other. The numbers for us are skewed closer to the chimps, but there are some decent noble men out there.

What is happening is the revelation that no matter how ugly or evil, no matter how beautiful and good, underneath and beyond all duality exists a vast pure conscious-awareness untouched. When what is false is presented and seen for what it is, what remains is Truth.
So, I would say the presence of fear or the "uneasiness" is fine, no problem and is in fact a doorway. Go in to this uneasiness. Be like a scientist investigating a new life form.
So instead of picturing only a thin layer of "good" overtop an "evil" core, I should consider the possibility of those dark feelings being a relatively thin layer as well. I shouldn't let the darkness stop me from learning more about myself, which potentially can be much more. You're right nothing ventured nothing gained. And how did you know that the analogy of a scientist would work with me?

i get the impression that a lot of the industrial countries really dont give a sh*t. recently there seems to be a lot of people saying man has nothing to do with it.
or, that its really not that bad.
govenrnments dont seem to care too greatly either, i'm thinking of australia and the usa at the moment.
There's always been fluctuations in the planet's temperature and substantial changes to environments as a result. Scientists can't say for sure just how much of industrialized society's activities are contributing to the increase in temperatures. Thats what some industrialists, firms, and administrations harp on, to legitimize their actions.
But its undeniable that levels of greenhouse gases have gone up, are still going up and are directly linked to human activities. If its not curbed, the human impact will only increase. Its prudent to put into place some controls now so that we don't exacerbate trends. Maybe the natural sinks in the biosphere are able to buffer our activities to a good extent such that a a runaway greenhouse effect isn't a real threat. But if we're not sure just how much we can push it, why risk it? I don't think wealth for one particular generation is more imporant than the quality of life of successive generations.

I'd say that perhaps the root fear is being lonely. What brings up the thought of not being loved, is how the person has only known and so himself/herself only knows how to offer conditional love. If thats not enough for most people, then it be harder for them to bond with someone.
But its nice to hear from a couple of others, like yourself and Frankiespeaking that most love is conditional (I'm assuming between non-related adults, not parent & child). I don't want to sound warped by saying that. What I want to say its a less dire picture for that person who thinks that most people love unconditionally. They don't fall too short of the norm then. Going forward from there, I guess its just a matter of finding a companion who's level of attention/craving matches close enough to what the person is able to offer.

i don't think you can seperate the 2. they are both inseperably joined, infact the wt defines how jws believe.
many here say they don't "hate" jws individually, just the society, ie the wt.. where in your personal opinion is the distinction drawn??
In JWs, I've experienced the same range of personalities that I did at school, university and work. As individuals some dubs are just impossible to hate, most affect/ed me neutrally, and then there are the few that are abrasive and really turn me off. As a whole I don't hate them, and in fact really do feel sorry for most of tem because they're being conned and used bt the WTS.
The WTS with their "God-Complex"plagued leadership, and the self-serving cronies that work along with them can @#$%&^ go to hell.

I do from time to time feel uneasy about knowing more about myself, about my inner nature in particular, because like you mentioned I'd lose my current image of myself. But for me at least, its not because I'm afraid of losing myself. I'm more dreadful of really learning who I truly am only to find something spiteful, bitter, selfish and cold. Is the "good" only a thin layer itself being kept out of fear of the darkness within? If the "good" in that case is a coping mechanism for the fear can it affect some change in who I am as well?
A different point to anyone (and I'm not necessarily talking personally now)
What can a person do to overcome the fear of not being loved by anyone? Assuming they've only ever really known conditional love.
there are some things that make sense and others that make you think when was medication time again ?
the one that got me, was the death of all these micro-biologists.

Thank you for providing those links. Coast-to-Coast is one of my guilty pleasures when I get the occasional bout of insomnia. But I think you'll agree that alot of whats said there is just plain wacky. Just when I thought I had weaned myself off of this stuff, the siren song of conspiracy theorists lures me back. Now Ebola would be a nastier virus to use as a weapon (8 out of 10 die from it).
