Facebook: Local Ruling By Elders in Nearby Congregation

just heard from a friend that a nearby body of elders in their congregation have decided that anybody who is on facebook will not be able to have privleges in their congregation.. hilarious!.

They were probably influenced by the negative light thrown on Facebook and social networking at the recent School for Elders and MS.

Things like married witnesses would find older flames or new love interests on Facebook and eventually wreck their marriages, or the anecdote about ~50 (IIRC) young teens who used Facebook to plan a wild party. Then after a few of them were "found" to have attended by their elders, they tried to spread the word about the "investigation" to other teens so they could cover their tracks. Darn that internet.

Oh well, evolving high tolerances of poisons is much more likely. But its just so pedestrian, in comparison to possibly having found a branch of life of separate origin. Its still neat though to see just how far life can adapt and see the power of evolution.

This is very huge news. Not so much in that NASA now has to broaden their parameters in the search for ET life or life bearing environments, but in the implications for the origins of life here on earth.

Did that bacterium (as would be rational to assume) evolve here on earth in Mono Lake? Then how did that remarkable overhaul of its chemistry come about? Can they find molecular fossils that hint at the evolutionary paths taken?

Now, if its even different in the genetic code itself ( any mention of this at all? Is this known?) then its definitely alien to the rest of life on Earth. Maybe too much to ask for, but if that is also the case, then I'm going to strongly lean towards a dear idea for me...panspermia.

"Daily Text" App for Android phones??!?

i was just scrolling through my husband's cell phone to see if he has any new and exciting apps and lo and behold.... he has a "daily text" app!!!

choose it, and up pops the text for the day, followed by the commentary.

good grief!

What's equally nauseating is an app for iOS devices (like the iphone) that essentially is like the Watchtower indexes (as well as having choice WT literature show up in the ibooks shelves).

While I myself don't live in Welland, I've gone to the Seaway often enough. Wish I had been there that day. It was all well planned though with several people set in different spots to take the video footage. They got permission to get prepared several hours before the mall even opened up to organize how it would all play out.

Maybe one way it can be explained is by how the mythology likely took shape. As I understand it, early Christology seems to have been leaning more towards an adoptionist view. He only became important after the baptism/adoption so nothing to write about before that. That would fit well if we assumed that the historical Jesus' early life didn't contain anything convincingly "divine" about it.

The movement got underway, higher Christology got more mind-share and the "god-man" take became orthodox in time. In the interim you'd get people thinking about the two possible christologies and toying with questions like what a maturing "god" was like.

The Curt Answer from some surviving works: You wouldn't want to tick that kid off. And that just wasn't the Jesus that the orthodox wanted to have in their canon.

Randy Watters -- WT admits 144,000 may not be the limit

i was shocked at the following underlined statement.. the second thing they are emphasizing is that those who claim to be of the "anointed" (now that they have admitted the number may not be limited to 144,000) not only have no say into what goes into the watchtower magazine, and have no special knowledge or place in jehovah's organization, so don't look to them for answers.

the governing body is the faithful and discreet slave as far as the jws are to be concerned.

I still (much to my chagrin) have access to what the WTS currently teaches by way of my pioneer sibling. I straight out asked her and she (who is quite intent on reading and trying to keep uptodate with the "truth") says she's never read anything saying the 144,000 is now figurative.

I personally think they can make it figurative once they've (the GB/the Society) firmly establish their control. They're already laying down the boundaries with the 3 groups now.

I'd like to see released official documents that do much more than just record sightings. Did all those UFO files released by the British Government contain anything resembling those anecdotes about UFOS being able to de-activate and re-activate equipment for nuclear missle launches? I don't recall coming across items like that.

Not saying I don't believe those people who come forward and give their experiences but it always seems to pan out that a large percentage of UFO sightings can eventually be identified as fairly prosaic things if enough data can be collected. Mind you, some sightings do involve confirmed atypical craft (like the Rendelsham incident) but the way the military is involved at those times makes me think its much more likely that we're dealing with experimental military drones, crafts, and spy satellites. I can totally see how the secret services and military from various countries can try and have tried to exploit this UFO angle as a cover for testing out those things too.

for the so-called conscious class, those of you who know it's all a disgusting lie, what is the real reason you stay in?

i find it hard to understand how ones who know what the org truly is would continue to be an active jw.

i'm not talking about the "faders"- those with an actual plan to get out as painlessly as possible.

I only have my immediate family here with me (parents and younger sister). I've always been more of a solitary person and have only ever had a very samll group of people I've ever felt comfortable around. I lose them I lose most of my meaningful relationships. All the rest of my more closer family are in Europe. Sure there are my mother's cousins etc in Toronto but I bareky know them.

I for one am really glad that Simon's original discussion forum is continuing on so that more and more seekers of whats true can find quality write-ups on a number of topics. Leolaia's posts are excellent. She humbly doesnt consider herself an expert but she's undeniably a scholar.

I've learned so much more from your posts, and I thought myself relatively more informed than the average dub because of the books I'd check out from my city's public library.

Thanks for all of it there Leolaia.

P.S. Don't burn yourself out though with some of the willfully ignorant posters that come/resurface on here from time to time.
